Hi SA. Just a quickie to wish you well starting the new job :D

Was nice and sunny here today too - we sadly lost one of our chickens on Friday night to Mr Fox (the first time in over 2 yrs OH did not secure their bedroom properly :o) Poor penny hen. Anyway so I spent today cleaning out their bedroom, running around the field with my JRT and wappy crossbreed and OH cooked sunday dinner for his mum and my mum. I cant wait for it to get warmer now.

BTW - I have never heard of pollock either :p

Have a good week - looking forward to reading about it x

    Hi everyone

Thanks for your good luck messages, much appreciated. I have been so lucky in finding work over the last few months considering that there is very little about. Let's hope that this one is better suited to me than the last outfit... :(

It is so cold this morning... beautiful and sunny but freezing. MrT has had a long walk already - he knows something is up.... A new routine starting. I expect a couple of sulks but then he will be fine.

LAM - I am so sorry about your hen - I don't like foxes at all. People think they are so cute and lovely but they kill for pleasure and really are vermin, I am afraid. It frightens me the way they are invading urban areas now.

A couple of questions to throw out to you lovely people....

My computer keeps telling me that I am running low on virtual memory.. If I take it to a computer shop can they add on more memory? Is it expensive and is it worth it? It is my Dads old computer and quite a small capacity but it works really well. What do you think?

How do you get candle wax off carpet? I didn't realise that a candle had melted last night and the there is a patch of wax on my lovely fitted carpet :( Anyone got a tried and tested tip. I will google it but thought someone might know.

Off to get ready for work now. I will let you know how it goes later. Fingers crossed.

    Hugs

    SA

I'm probably too late to wish you luck before you go, but hope everying went well.

The virtual memory thing, I think it's more a case of cleaning up the computer rather than adding memory (it's a different kind of memory), so the computer shop should be able to run a few programs on it rather than you having to buy something physical. I think.

To get wax off a carpet, pick of the lumpy bits, then place a paper towel (I think the heavy kind, not kitchen roll) and iron over it on a very low heat. I'm hopeless on all things domestic, so probably someone else will be able to give you better advice.

I do so hope this job works out for you. MrT will get used to it, but he will probably be practising his hurt and abandoned look for when you get back.

ref the virtual memory, you can go to your control panel and look for options and defrag your hard disk. also there is somewhere where you can change how much of the cpu i think is doing virtual memory....
but you can do it yourself or with a slightly techy friend you shouldn't need to take it into a shop.

i agree ref the candle wax too

  • MSE Oldstyle Board - candlewax Click here for help about removing candlewax but I would agree with the posters above. The paper helps absorb the wax that has remelted. HTH startagain. Lowest setting possible on your iron ;)

    Hi Startagain,

I am so pleased I stumbled across your diary today, I am up to page 9 so far, so will catch up with the rest later. You are doing so well, you are a great inspiration with your determination and your frugality. What kind of terrier do you have? I have a patterdale terrier and love and adore her!
