    Just lurking:o-

Credit-crunch, It's perfectly normal in the UK to pay the money upfront to the venue. At least from what I have heard. I think it's just a NI thing to pay afterwards (I think Wanchai was talking about it once).

Will stop posting and re-lurk now! :rotfl:

ive just made a to do list for the 12th July holidays we get in NI. I finish work today until 16th July, so plenty of time to get through my list. This is what I need to do:
    • send a draft for order of service
    • organise table / seating plan
    • post BM colour sample to cake lady & final payment
    • ring car company with colour of ribbon, flowers & tell where we are stopping for photos
    • confirm a few surname spellings for place cards
    • decide on table names
    • organise final suit fitting for the men
    • email florist with colours of grandparents buttonhole & final table numbers & payment
    • decide on music from string quartet & final payment
    • first dance, BM dance, father of the bride songs for the band to play
The hotel have asked for final payment for the reception to be made 2 weeks before the actual wedding day. This concerns me greatly. I have the money sitting there, but what if something goes wrong? If they go bankrupt/destroyed in a fire/natural disaster etc etc
I have insurance in place but I would rather settle the balance after the meal - we have paid a £500 deposit.
    What would you guys do?
    TIA x

Hey I'm from NI too! Where you getting married???? I have to make a list like you have, but going to a wedding in Wicklow from tomorrow til Saturday so won't get much done...but have emailed the menu to the venue to check it is all ok for us to print and make menus and I am also going to send draft order of service to the minister for checking. Everything else will have to wait!
    Save 12k in 2014 (my target: £10 000):
    My savings: £4878.54/£7000
    Joint account savings: £2685.57/£3000
    Total:£7564.11/£10 000 (as at 26/10/14)

    Hello,
Have just found this thread and it's made me feel much better that I'm not the only one stressing bout RSVPs and family!
We got engaged in March so it's been a hectic few months trying to organize everything in time and on a budget.
So far have sorted dress, petticoat, shoes and hair flower (£4 from Claire's Accessories!), OH's suit is being made abroad at the moment - present from a friend who works in fashion.
Getting a lift in a friend's lime green car :rotfl:on the day - should make for interesting photos!
Also have lovely friends doing photos, another doing DJing (along with OH who loves DJing).
Just finding it hard to please 2 mothers of the brides at the moment as it's a civil partnership and we are the only daughters on both sides!
Keep flitting between walking down the street grinning with excitement and stressing about every last detail!
Can't believe how close it is now!:j :j

    Hello,
Just wondering what other people are doing for the something old, new, borrowed and blue?
Mostly struggling on the borrowed and blue items!
Would love to know what others have chosen?
