Thanks Cocktailsavings, I was REALLY pleased with it, especially when I saw this one in Debenhams for £16 this weekend!http://www.debenhams.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_10001_10001_74621_717089_-1

Also managed to pick up some of those pink toolboxes from Poundland ready for next year!!! :rotfl:
  • Actually i think im also going to do one of these for my OH we've jst been talkin about what things we used to do as a kid, and then we got to the subject of sweeties, and he's given me a whole host of sweets that he loved as a child. So i'm now hunting for a jar/kilner so i can put stuff like candy sticks and them saucer things, and lots of sherbert in :j I'm really excited, i will post a picture, once i've done it, and once i've worked out how to put one on here LOL:rotfl:
Thanks everyone for these fantastic ideas!!:D

Retro sweetie jar for my friend's OH...

    IMGP2585.jpgIMGP2589.jpg

The jar was from Ikea, sweets from Woolies mainly. Wrapped with a digital photography book as he's recently bought a new camera and wanting to do lots of cool stuff with their photos on the PC.

Sweetie box for another friend's son (he's 10)...

Box from Wickes - about £2.25 but bought using a vocher code so was cheaper; sweets bought from Woolies (and I also raided my boys stash!); I made the door hanger/tag on the parcel for about £2 and stuck 2 candy canes on top.

All these sweets are making me hungry :D

I'm going to do one of these in a glass jar for my father in law. But I want to do really old sweets if opssible, ones he would have eaten when he was a kid rather than when I was. I'm thinking imps and jelly babies; any other ideas for oldie sweets? He's 60.

    Earthmother, I've just done one of these for my Mum, here's what I found for each decade;

    50s
    pontefract cakes
    sherbert lemons
    black jacks
    fruit salad
    rhubarb and custard
    dolly mixture
    peanut brittle
    pear drops
    sherbert fountain

    60s
    strawberry bon bons
    sweet tobacco
    fruit gums
    jelly babies
    kola kubes
    drumsticks
    flying saucers
    white choc fish and chips
    parma violets
    candy whistles
    coconut mushrooms

I found a fair bit of this stuff in Woolies and McColls - they had a range of old fashioned sweets 3 for £1

    hth!

Sarahs999 - think this might help you with your sweetie jar. I have done the boxes for my two ds for the past two years and they love them.
