I found some compartment boxes in Poundworld today. They are excellent as you can make the compartments as big or small as you need. They have handles too.
I am so excited now cos I can do my Niece and Nephew one each as well as my own 2 children~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Here is mine, i made two but only photographed one...
all in all it cost about £4.50, just need to put a tag on it and some ribbon, one is for dh and the other my gran as she loves boiled sweets!0 -
I was in Poundland today looking for a box for my nephew but they only had pink ones, so well worth a visit if you have girls to buy for. They would be ideal for storing bits after the sweets have been eaten.
Never thought to look for them in Woolies.Money SPENDING Expert0 -
earthmother wrote: »Can anyone suggest some sweets for a retro sweet hamper for a 60th birthday - I want the sort of things they would have enjoyed as a child, but as my 'retro' is the 70s, I don't know how much of it was around that bit earlier in the 50s/60s.
Earthmother, I've just done one of these for my Mum, here's what I found for each decade;
50s
pontefract cakes
sherbert lemons
black jacks
fruit salad
rhubarb and custard
dolly mixture
peanut brittle
pear drops
sherbert fountain
60s
strawberry bon bons
sweet tobacco
fruit gums
jelly babies
kola kubes
drumsticks
flying saucers
white choc fish and chips
parma violets
candy whistles
coconut mushrooms
I found a fair bit of this stuff in Woolies and McColls - they had a range of old fashioned sweets 3 for £1

Hi everyone, I have spent today (on and off) looking through the whole of this thread and am very impressed!
I'm going to make one for my OH, just as a little extra gift. I've actually seen the boxes in my local woolies so thats that sorted.
My OH loves things like white chocolate mice, chocolate raisens, those little choccie discs covered in hundreds and thousands. Anyway, if I bought the sweets now, do you think they'd keep ok untill Christmas?
Thanks everyone and again I love the boxes, boquets! (SP?)

I couldn't find one of those compartmentalised boxes (not that I looked very hard!) so I put my OHs in a tall jar that was part of a set from Mr Ts - 3 for £1.49. Bought 2 big bags of sweeties from Asda when they had BOGOFF, then a couple of bits for between 10 and 25p each when I saw them including Finger of Fudge, Curly Wurly, Sherbert Fountain. All in all it cost me about £3.00
I will put my poem on it with a bow and a ribbon nearer Christmas
That jar looks amazing ... I am defo going to steal this idea (providing I can find a similar jar) ... fantastic surprise gift idea for my besties! ThanksMummy to a beautiful 4 month old princess! x0 -
