Does anyone know where to get the double sided boxes with compartments and how much they are please? I want to do one for my Dad (hes 84) as he said he doesnt want anything this Christmas. thought it wouldnt look like I had paid out a fortune but he would have the sweets and then be able to use the box for something after. He really only eats the wrapped sweets like toffees and boiled fruit sweets, that kind of thing so wouldnt get many in the boxes used on here. If the boxes are too expensive I wont do it.

Any other ideas? He has plenty of mugs so no good filling one of those. I know he will have a go if he thinks I've spent a lot on him so its got to be something that doesnt look too expensive if you get me. Dont think he would use a vase again if I did a bouquet, know my Mum would have liked one if she was still here.

Can anyone suggest some sweets for a retro sweet hamper for a 60th birthday - I want the sort of things they would have enjoyed as a child, but as my 'retro' is the 70s, I don't know how much of it was around that bit earlier in the 50s/60s.

  • Someone mentioned this in a thread and I thought it sounded fab but - I dunno what they are!! How do you do it? just put bars of choc into oasis?

If you could throw me in the direction of another thread or give me a quick exp, that would be fab, thank you!!
It only takes a second to say 'Thanks, you just saved me a few quid!'

Hi there are a couple of sweet bouquets on this thread
    http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=296799&page=21
I made the choccie one cant find the instructions on how to make it though, im sure someone on here will be able to find them. I got the idea from here first of all but basically it is just like you said, you stick the choccie bars on skewers and stick them into oasis. Shelleys sweet one is much more professional looking but I couldn't get the hang of the cellophane so left the bottom of mine bare. HTH

This is the kind of thing we are talking about. Shelley made up a fantastic one for her mums birthday. I have 2 which I am in the process of making still (been at it for weeks cause I forget to buy the stuff I need for the base)
Basically it is sweets and then tape a skewer on the back and arrange them to look like a boquet of flowers :) It is fairly easy, well I think so anyway

I got some today and they went through the till at 40p, think there is 10% off home/DIY.

All sweets and chocs are 3 for 2 as well (excludes pick n mix)

Still need to find some slightly bigger boxes from somewhere though for my OH, no luck in wilkos, the range, tesco, asda etc :( the small one is way too small for OH the sweet muncher (eats a big bag of tangfastics in one sitting!)

I was gonna get him the firebox jar at £20?? til I saw this thread
  • Wow! this is such a good idea!!
    :D thanks bluenose1
