Natalie- you are so organised!! When I was bridesmaid last year it we had a gerbera similar in size I imagine to what yours our in our hair and they looked really nice. If you were worried about it being too big or not staying (although if you gripped it it would) you could pick up a smaller flower somewhere like accessorize.
Oh Hair and make up- im going to have a trial with my sisters friend and see if I like what she can do, and I dont think she will charge silly amounts. Make up, mil2b works with someone who does wedding make up so im going to get her prices, mabe have a trial and then hopefully book her. I may still treat myself to a decent foundation for her to use- plus that way i can take it on honeymoon with me (and use until i get the sun). I wont be paying silly amounts for hair and make up as I think its wrong that they charge silly amounts cos your a bride!0 -
Wooo hooo it's Easter!!! Only 4 more terms till we all get married!!
Yaaaaaaaay!
Oh you are so lucky! We still have another week to go before our holiday starts. You made me laugh when you were saying about people from work being on holiday - is it really bad of me to be secretly hoping some people are on holiday so that the food costs are lower :rotfl:
I think most of you have done dresses, but in case it helps anyone I drove past this place the other day http://weddingdress-factoryoutlet.co.uk/ it's about a 20 minute drive from where I live. I didn't go in or anything but looked it up after and it sounds quite good.
I am going to sound really ignorant now but can we please have a little post with everyones names on? I'm crap with names and you all keep calling each other things and I can never remember who you all are:o:o:o
Love the organisation, I might have to steal the lists so I don't forget anything - must admit I've not done much but will probably try and get sorted in the summer holiday to keep me busy. Most of my friends are not teachers so they all work, I end up sitting home alone or wandering round town on my own :rotfl:
Oh and hello Debbie

OMG how organised are you all!!!! i have my ring and thats its! i keep changing my mind about everything else but the date and our colour theme.
I have the gold to get OHs ring made but have found this http://www.kinektdesign.com/product-gear-ring.php which is so him and i think the cogs all moving and working around eachother are like us
we have a local pub thats really nice but i think it may be a little pricey.... if we went here i would get married in a church like my father would love....
Opinions please:
This local venue is about 5mins from the church.
if we got married a little later (say 2.30 rather then 1pm) it would last an hour so it would be 3.30 then pics so more like 4.30ish when we get there. i could invite all our guests to the wedding rather then some to the day and some to the evening. and just have one large buffet... after the speachs. then party away into the night? its not traditional or "normal" but what u think? would it work or would we look tight? its just so difficult to make these decisions!!!0 -

We're doing something similar: it'll be something like this...
2pm church
3.30ish Pimms reception at local pub (it's about a ten minute drive away) for the people who were also at the church.
5pm evening guests arrive
6pm buffet style food for everyone followed by speeches
then music party etc.
We are not inviting everyone to the church because I don't want everyone there, I don't want to get up in front of everyone. But it would easily work with everyone going to the church.
Less of a faff than having to do two separate meals and things!

that sounds good.... and ur right about getting up infront of everyone.... eek.... lol.... i think we will pop in there tomorrow and see what sort of thing they can offer us. x0 -
Mel- maybe we could get LauraLou to add out names to the first post so its always easy to find if we forget who is who.
Laurar- I think your idea is fine, we may end up doing something similiar, depending on prices from the caterers. We wouldnt invite everyone to the ceremony- but thats only because we are limited to a max of 40ish so can only invite those closest to us.0 -
Thanks everyone for welcoming me;
We are hoping for July 21st, talking to the minister is the next thing on the cards but we are drinking tomorrow night so i don't think it would be wise to go to church worse for wear.
Hiya MrsDrink I have been googling maddly for ideas and we are thinking of a few small lawn games and getting different viariaties of food for guests! Cream Scones in the afternoon and then proper Yorkshire food in the evening ! The only bit i am worried about is the weather
We also found DIY string chandeliers which we might try and make to hang from the tree's, ruffledblog has some great DIY ideas.
Music wise, we are thinking of a small swing / jazz quartet, luckily i used to play so hoping i can get some old band members on the cheap side lol
We are going to use some of the money we saved to put into the garden and make it extra special and his parents can enjoy it after the wedding.
Just got to try and fit my exams in around the weddingi so want to be planning when i am supposed to be revising

Emma (Pinkprincess) - I think over Easter I will have a play around with hair dos (up, half up, down, etc) and see where I could position the flower
(Lol I will share photos so you can all advise!)
I absolutely agree about hair/makeup plus the word 'wedding'!! For my hair I am going to just get a regular appointment with my hairdresser the weekend before (hopefully she'll be working) so I can get the colour touched up and it cut. I (personally) wouldn't pay for a make up artist to do my make up for just one day - that seems like a waste of money. Instead I can put that money towards buying some posh make up that I can use over and over - think that is more of an investment.
Mel (silaqui) - Oh I absolutely agree about hoping some won't come - lol and that doesn't just apply to work colleagues!!And I'm also crap with names - lol I'm one of those annoying people who says peoples names all the time... like instead of just saying "bye" I'll say "bye Fred" - I do it pretty much all the time lol - it's the only way I can learn people's names! Especially with the kids I teach (having a turn over of 'fresh' kids every term or so!) Last term was a nightmare when I saw two children who were siblings.
LauraR - I personally think your suggested timings sound perfect. I know people should expect a lull in proceedings while the bride and groom are being photographed, but unless I know everyone there I find this really boring. (Last wedding I went to I only knew the B&G and MrD). So to have another lull between photos and the reception starting, for me, would be rubbish. (Lol I'm so like a child that needs constant entertaining!). I think lulls in proceedings should be kept to a minimum.... although you can't get a bigger lull than 4 days lol!!
Oh and when I read your comment about the cog ring - (ha that looks/sounds rather rude) my first thoughts were a confused 'mmm?' but it looks really nice on that photo!!
Re: the whole 'getting up/walking down the aisle in front of loads of people' we was chatting to the In-Laws-To-Be last night - and I said noone is giving me away, and that MrD can walk down the aisle with me. Lol. I said I was giving away 7 or so years ago when we moved in together. I then also said I don't want to walk down the aisle on my own lol. I did ask his mum if I could run lol.
OOoo hope you get the 21st Debbie!! That is when we're having our garden partyI will write a post later today about what I've found for our garden party - although I have to admit lol I already feel it won't be anything compared to yours. The only garden game we have is one called Mölkky
.... right gotta go - we're off to collect MrD's bike... will continue this later.

What a lovely day it is today!!!
I think i will be treating myself to make up on the day, but only mainly because I have terrible darkness around my eyes (despite how much sleep I get!!) so would like someone to do my foundation properly and so it will last all day, although as I say I may invest in a decnt foundation anyway. But then I dont spend that much during the year on my hair and make up so if I cant treat myself on my wedding day when can I!!
I am being given way cos I want my step dad to give me away and cos I want oh to see me walking down the aisle as that will be the first time he would have seen me that day and my dress etc (and im hoping he will think 'oh she does scrub up ok':rotfl:), but if I wasnt that bothered about that I would just walk in with the guests and would not have the whole walking down the aisle thing- as the thought of this terrifies me- what if I trip on my dress and fall or something- think there will be a few nightmares about this before the big day!!0 -
Cor what a long day that was!! Where was I?
Yep - the garden party. All we're doing really is having a buffet. It'll start at 6pm and people are free to join us whenever they like. Since there won't be any speeches, or first dance or anything like that there isn't a set time for people to arrive. We'll have some white plastic garden chairs for the Old Farts/OAPs to sit on (anyone older than 40), garden walls for anyone our age (25-40), and the grass for any kids. We'll just open up our house and the buffet will be spread out in our kitchen.
The decorations will be:
In the kitchen I'll cover all our worktops with white table cloths (I was thinking of putting something like plyboard sheets down over things like the hob so I have even more workspace). I'll get some burgundy heart confetti (£1.59 for 14g off ebay) or burgundy petals (£3.59 for 100) to sprinkle around the buffet. If I have any ribbon left over from the invites I'll make some bows to place amongst it all too.
Outside in the gardens I'll have some garden torches scattered about (£19.98 for 10 off ebay) with large stiff ribbon bows on their stems (20m for £6.35 off ebay). I will probably get 20 torches - 10 for the front garden and 10 for the back.
In the corner of each garden and each downstairs room I will make some Cloud 9 Balloons (bundles of 9 balloons) made from burgundy and white balloons (£10.19 for 99 burgundy balloons and £10.19 for 99 white balloons off ebay). I am not going to use helium, will just sellotape the to the corner of the rooms/tie them to the bushes with string. In the rooms and garden I am also going to make paper heart 'garlands' (like these) using the same card as the invites - to make 44 of them I've spent just over £8 with PDA.
The other things I'm considering include:
two 3 x 3 gazebos (roof, no side panels) for £19.98 each.
some sort of 'just married' banner for the back garden back fence.
some sort of 'party this way' sign for the front of the house to direct people round the back.
I also quite like these http://www.happyclippings.com/2011/01/say-it-with-love-paper-heart-garland.html
and these http://www.oregonlive.com/hg/index.ssf/2010/02/create_your_own_3-d_valentine.html
but I haven't got enough card for the last two.0
