Well I have just ordered some Giant Pick up sticks as part of our 'entertainment' - used to play this a lot with my grandma
(Had actually totally forgotten about this memory until I was googling garden games). I'm researching giant jenga - but the cheapest one I've found (£24) doesn't have very good reviews (a lot of them complaining about the quality/finish of the wood so I'm unsure whether to get it or not (I don't want to pay more than £30 for it).

Well after saying that I have just ordered one off ebay - £29.99 - the sellers feedback all have happy customers who'd bought the Giant Jenga off them. It should arrive during half term so I will be home to receive it - can see if it's any good and send it back if it isn't
So (hopefully) that is all our 'entertainment' sorted:
In the front garden we'll have giant pick up sticks, giant jenga, and a bowls game called Mölkky.
In the dinning room I'll set up MrD's laptop to stream our music (and play it); then in the back garden I'll set up a set of our speakers attached to an airport express; the kitchen will have the other set of our speakers and airport express; in the lounge I'll set up our apple TV connected to the TV to play the streamed music.
All the electrical stuff we already own, we already own the game Mölkky, and the jenga and pick up sticks have cost us £42.78 in total.0 -
I have decided I want a photo of me (in my dress) and my brothers playing pick up sticks0

argh!
MrD has now decided we want tables....
He wants 6 of them... which means he wants 10 more chairs...
F*** knows where he thinks they will go in the garden with 53 guests (including us) and 2 gazebos.
Still I'll order them and he can deal with them when they arrive!!
This also means I now have the 'fun' of the new unexpected cost of finding table cloths!! (!!!!!!) (to go with the white plastic chairs!!) and centre pieces - okay this part I'm not too bothered about - and will enjoy but !!!!!! it's added expense that we weren't bothering with!! Grrrrr
I now need to buy more gerberas!
GRRRR wish he'd have kept his bloody nose out!
:rotfl:
New additional costs so far:
£30 for tables.
£15 for chairs.
£16.27 for flowers to tie to the back of the chairs
£6.55 of ribbon to tie the flowers to the back of the chairs
£6.94 of organza for table runners
£8.94 for 6 plastic table covers0 -
Okay so what do you guys think to this....
White round tables, with table cloths (white), white plastic chairs 5 to each table, and each chair having a burgundy gerbera tied to it
- something like this:
Do I *need* a centre piece? Do I *need* a table runner?
Stupid dumb !!! questions - I don't bloody *need* tables lol.
So much for the low key garden party - this is turning more and more into an actual wedding reception *gulp*.
I am thinking of just putting table runners across them - what do you think?0 -
LOL at MrD getting all groomzilla on you! :rotfl:
Runners are more for long tables, aren't they?

Not necessarily
They will be like this:
Okay I've calmed down now - and as much as it pains me I guess he's right.
And we've decided to not use table centre pieces - I figure having the flowers tied to the chairs like above will be enough.0 -
:rotfl: at the post count!!
Wanchai- so have you been researching cars and found anything?
Well I found the motivation to drag myself and oh to the gym, and now Im home Im feeling a bit drained and think Im coming down with something- so at least I made it to the gym today as I may not make it for a few days if Im not 100%.
Natalie- I dont think you need anything- ie runners or centrepieces. I think just the plain white tables and chairs with the gerberas will look simple but effective. :rotfl: at MrD suddenly deciding he wants tables- I wonder why!
Natalie glad you got home ok last night- we missed the snow!:D (I hate snow!!). And I think the odd naughty dinner is acceptable, life would be boring if you didnt have the odd treat!:p0 -

What are the tables like, can you get away without? Your party is casual isn't it so I reckon by putting table cloths and centrepieces and stuff on you run the risk of making it more like a sit down thing. If the tables are only there are somewhere to plonk your drink and buffet while you play giant jenga then forget tablecloths! The chair decorations will smarten the look enough surely?
I'm so bored today - was going to go for a walk but there is soooo much snow - I measured it outside early and the ruler went in to 17cm! So decided against it as where we normally go will be all drifted and I don't like walking round the streets. Anywhere else will mean defrosting the car!
Dunno whether to look at weddingy things but to be honest I've not got that much more to do apart from pay for stuff! Anyone think of anything I've missed?
Dress, shoes, underwear, accessories - first two done, underwear nearer the time. Accessories - I have something to wear but might be tempted by something else if it's cheap and I would wear it again.
Suits - sorted just need paying.
Car - about to be paid
Music - Sorted just need paying
Honeymoon - Sorted just need paying
Photos - sorted and paid.
Invitations - need to write them and deliver/post.
Cake - will get nearer the time from m&s probably, whatever's cheapesy.
Flowers - mum is sorting, prob go and have a look in half term and see what they do.
Hotel for after - sorted and paid.
Church - just needed details finalising (March 3rd meeting) and paying.
Evening venue and food etc - just about sorted, just need to finalise details once we know numbers and pay.
Table decs - Dad making them, done.
Hotel for OH, Dad and Brother for night before. - needs sorting out.
So I could look for a cheapish but still nice hotel for them to stay in I guess. I also need to work out what needs to go in the invites and how many stamps I need.
Neither of those is particularly appealing lol!
Anything I've missed?
xxThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0 -
To be honest - I'm kinda excited that he's now getting involved :rotfl:
(We've decided for 5 tables and 30 chairs. Tables will have white plastic table covers and organza runners, chairs will have a burgundy gerbera tied on with burgundy organza ribbon. Am happy with this decision).
I do love snow - and I love walking in it (we're off to MrD's mum's in a bit - it's round the block so we're going to walk), but it was a bit of a nightmare driving home last night - just so glad MrD is a brilliant driver. Our car really is very twitchy when it comes to that sort of conditions, the smallest lump of slush and it wants to push the car sidewards. At one point we were at 90 degrees to the road. Luckily it was near midnight, there was no other cars about and the road was really wide so we didn't actually come off. Ha I was texting my mum at the time to tell her we were nearly home, good job else I may have screamed - it was a very slow slide though - we weren't doing more than 25-30mph! I just hope we don't have any more snow today (forecasted) else it will make getting to work interesting tomorrow. The snow has been melting slowly today - the main roads are probably clear (ish).
Last night as we left the pub me, MrD and my brother ended up having a mini-half hearted snowball fight - I realised I really am such a girl thrower!! No aim! :rotfl: It was nice though... even though it was them vs me!
Mel1 I can't think of anything you've missed off the top of my head0
