July 2012 Brides and Grooms

Hi everyone,
I'm new on here - getting married on Friday 13th July 2012 (lucky for some!)
We are looking at getting our wedding rings now and wanted some advice if anyone has any?
I am getting 18ct white gold 2mm plain band - h samuels have one £219, or samarajames have a one for £200. I've heard great reviews about samarajames and they have said their white gold is Grade 1 which means when the rhodium wears away it won't be as yellow as with lower grades. However I emailed H Samuel asking what grade theirs was and they said it didn't have a grade as it wasn't diamond.
So can anyone tell me the crack with white gold grading, and which would be better to get?
AND looking at my partners ring - he has decided on a white gold probably about 5/6mm - just 9ct. I have seen one H Samuel's for £130 (he really doesn't want to spend anymore than £100)... but what is the quality?? Does anyone else know anywhere that would do 9ct white gold 5/6mm for around £100??
Any help would be appreciated, just so many different answers it's hard to know which is right!
Thanks a lot!

Well thats work finished for the day and Thanks for the warm welcome
All we have done really is booked and paid for most of the actual wedding. I think we have managed to get a decent deal(I hope). there is a total of 6 Adults, 3 Children we have managed to get the prices based on 2 adults 1 children x 3 @ £2576 with a wedding package for a further £300.
The wedding package includes:
Special gazebo for the ceremony (just before the beach)
Flowers in room
Assistant chambermaid for the bride in the room
12 Photographs (4"x6") of the wedding on CD
Romantic dinner for the bride & groom
Turndown service on wedding day(dont actually know what this is lol)
Just married t shirts
Increase in luggage for flight
We will be asking for extras
In photo's & hairdresser, flowers
Dress attire
Obviously the OH to be organising dress and as tradition goes I know nothing about it only the price allowance which we have set at £400 (is that harsh?) Any help on this part would be great ie websites, shops etc (we are in the Manchester location)
I myself and 2 other gents are going for a cotton shirt and sandy/beige pants with sandels maybe with panamars(dunno if goes yet).. I agree it sounds casual but the effect does look good if theres more than one of you with the same..
The Do for when we get back(this is where we need most help
venue has been sorted at a Masonic Hall, we have managed to get the convservatory part of the building. Ive attend here before and looks good. This has costed £250 this has 13 oval tables that seat 10 (we have account 120-130 attendee's if they all turn up) these only come with white table cloths. We need table decorations and seat covers etc (any help would be great)
No invitations found yet that we like...
Sorry for the long post but thought it would be good for info0 -
Okay now tea is in the oven (well it will be once it's heated up) I've got a spare minute to write!!
Got an email from my bridal shop - I will be popping in on Saturday with the rainbow club shoes to see if they are the right colour :T I can then send them back. I can then begin the internal debate of which shoes do I prefer vs which shoes will go better with the dress. :rotfl: Wanchai - I may take a longer time than you to make a decision on your wedding dress.
EmmaT (Lol - we already have an Emma so this is my way of distinguishing between the two of you). The biggest thing I can advise when it comes to rings is to consider their depth as well as width. E.g. an 18ct white gold 2mm Heavy D ring at £200 would be a better deal in terms of amount of gold compared to an 18ct white gold 2mm flat ring for the same price. I would pop into a jewellers and go try a few on - to get an idea of what sort of ring you are after that will then help your search. For what it's worth I got my wedding ring - an 18ct white gold Heavy D 2mm ring for £152.71 including postage from the wedding ring specialist http://www.theweddingringspecialist.co.uk/ back in July (so gold prices will have fluctuated by then). The service and advice I received from them as well as first class.
I don't know anything about grading of White Gold. I know it's made up of a mixture of metals and then rhodium plated, and I guess you can get different amounts of precious metals being made into white gold. Can't help with the grooms ring - have yet to have that joy with MrD (lol fixing him down while he chooses what sort of ring he wants!)
Prescott - I think my advice about the bash afterwards is to just spend a few days together browsing this forum. Things will quickly slip into placeI also found a site called Etsy very good for getting ideas - lol but bewarned it's all arty and crafty may not be very 'blokey'
Right the oven should be heated up by now.0 -

We're having a ceremony on the 17th July, and a party on the 21st. Will be sending out our invites during Feb Half Term. (4 weeks 1 days time :rotlf). I was going to wait till sometime during the actual week off - but knowing me I'll post them on my way home from school as I break up!0 -
Melanie - I love that bus!!!!!!! Can I ask how much it cost? I priced a vintage Routemaster for our wedding and it was £750!!!
The total cost was £475.25. That includes all the fuel, a driver and a conductor who gives out the tickets and drinks. The cost is mileage based but they are local (within 20 miles) to us so that has helped.0 -
More newbies . . and a groom! Love to hear the male prospective.
I am sending my invites out during Easter half term as i need catering numbers and menu choices for the venue. I love the 'wedding' taxis they are fab and if H2B hadn't organised and booked the bus i would definitely have those. Really pleased with the bus though and i am looking forward to the journey back with all my guests although H2B has asked for 10 minutes on our own when we get back to the venue just so we can catch up alone together.
Well after all the excitement of getting my shoes i have not had time to put them near the dress. I have news . . . . . . . here goes . . . . . . i am going to say it quietly . . . . . . .i joined slimming world tonight I have not been to a club for about 7 years. I hate public weigh ins and i hate the whole clap your hands thing but i am messing about and i need the focus so i have got the new books and ALSO i have been for another run!! I am trying the couch to 5k, never run in my life really but i need to give something new a try. New year, new wife to be and all that . . . .oh that and i'm getting really old :rotfl:0 -

Oh sounds like you have got a fab deal price wise.
I dont think £400 is harsh, its definately doable. I got my dress from a sample sale and it was reduced from £900 to £200. I think if I was getting married abroad I would personally looking in somewhere like Monsoon as I think their dresses can be fairly lightweight (perfect for taking on a plane and the heat) and their dresses are stunning and reasonably priced.
Invites- have you thought about making your own- im not crafty at all but made my own and was really pleased with how they turned out.
Things like chair covers- (and sorry to those who have read me say this loads of times) have a look on facebook if you are on there- is there any local wedding pages set up? I got mine from a new company setting up for £1 a cover and sash including set up, and another bride got her chair covers for 75p for cover and sash, she just needs to set them up- considering the going rate is at least £3 it goes to show it is worth shopping around for deals. Have you checked at your venue to see if they have any cloths themselves?0 -
Oh that is brilliant news Melanie - on both counts - the SW and also the running.
What is the coach to 5K like?
I am hoping you have proper running trainers not just any old trainers worn for the gym. It's so important to go to a proper running shop that can judge your gait and give you trainers that will support your feet correctly (I roll my foot inwards so I need more cushioning on the outer edge of my heel). I HIGHLY recommend Lincolnshire Runner in Lincoln. The guys there are very supportive of anyone wanting to get into running. I remember going two years ago to get my trainers and him saying I'll be doing a 10K in no time and me just laughing at him!!
Right tea time0 -

ooh a nice blank canvas to work with. I would suggest you sit with future Mrs and look on google images for wedding reception halls etc and get some ideas or let her buy some bridal mags or MSE share them with a friend!
You should be able to get a dress for £400 but if she really finds the 'ONE' and its more than budget you may have to save elsewhere as you wouldn't want the future love of your life to 'make do' on the most important and most photographed dress of her life . . . . thats what i told my H2B anyway :rotfl: - worked for me!! Wanchai is our champion dress buyer!0 -

I am borrowing my daughters trainers until i can get some at the weekend. She had her fitted at a running specialist place in Peterborough. she has a high instep like me and although i would never share shoes, ever, i only had fashion skechers so i felt they are better than nothing! Will get my own honest.
Couch to 5k seems sensible enough. For the first week i have to walk briskly for 5 minutes warm up then jog for 60 seconds then walk 90 seconds. repeat for 20 minutes. You have to complete 3 of these for the first week and then week 2 is 5 mins of brisk walk then 90 secs jogging and 120 walking and so on for 20 minutes. 3 of these.0
