  • Hmmm- im now thinking signatures- and practicing with my finger on a bit of my netbook! I currently have my proper one and a quick one which is just my initials- Im thinking it would be easier to adapt the shorter one- you so know what im going to do tomorrow at work when I have a pen in my hand!!

Mel- do whatever you are happy with- if you dont want to change your name have a chat with your oh and just explain how you feel. If you want to change it on all your official documents but keep your name as it is for work then go for that option- you may just need to make the school aware of your decision. (im thinking more just say you apply for a mortgage and need a reference- the company will send it in your married name so the school will need to be aware of your name so they can identify you)

Mel- you venue sounds like it is going to look fab once it is all finished.

Mine wouldn't flow either if I do take his name! I have mentioned it before to him and he isn't too bothered either way lol! Good point about having to make sure work are aware - maybe it would be a bit confusing because I'd have to have my bank details and payslip etc as my married name but then be 'known as' my proper name. Does nobody else feel the least bit upset about losing their old name? I feel like I'm being a bit weird but I've had that name all my life - it's like losing my identity!! :rotfl:

    xx
Ths signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it... :o
  • :rotfl:I was just sat in the dining room writing a christmas card for my ohs aunt and there was a spare bit of paper so Ive just been practising my new signature and I said to oh (who is in the living glued to his ps3) 'it just isnt working', he was like 'what isnt working' so I replied 'my new signature', he just said 'oh'! In the end though I think Ive found one- I need to take my middle initial out and it seems ok!

The first wedding invite will be sent out Tuesday!!:j. Only as its for ohs aunt in Spain so we decided to send it out early and put it in with her Christmas card- we are really hoping she can make the wedding so are giving plenty of notice.

Mel- can you tell I work in payroll!!:D. And I think I may sound really mean but I cant wait to lose my old surname!

Mel glad they are going to get it sorted for you!!

I think I've told you all about how my idea of using my maiden name for work went down like a lead balloon lol.

Part of me is slightly sad that I will be giving up my surname. My father was an only child - so it's left to me and my two brothers to carry the name on. One brother changed his by deedpoll to my mum's maiden name. So that leaves me and my big brother. Luckily he has had a son so the name will be carried on with him. But another part of me agrees with my middle brother - I associate myself a lot more with my mum's side of the family than I do my dads so in that respect I don't mind giving it up. Although to be MrsD will be really strange - cause that is MrD's mum's name!!
    I'm rambling!

Emma - how exciting that your first invite is going out soon!! :D
  • WHen I first got with oh I said I would want a double barrelled name, but my grandparents (on my dads side) were still alive and I was very close to them, but they have sadly passed away and I just dont feel a link to the name anymore. Was it MrD that wasnt happy about you using your name for work?

I know- it feels all :j that im about to send the first one out.

Lol yea - it was something along the "cor you've nagged me for so long to get married and now we are you don't want to take my name" lol.

I missed loads of chat yesterday!! Lovely tree Natalie, i was going to get all the decorations down ready yesterday but i woke up with a stinking head cold and i felt to rough to deal with it, so it will be this weekend instead. I can not believe it will be all of our last 'singleton' Xmas. Next year i am going to sign all my cards Mr and Mrs just because i can!!

Loved the hair pictures. I am going for a half up, half down look. Also contemplating a glitzy secret side slide for some sparkle. What i really need to do is squeeze myself in to my 'too small for me really' wedding dress and take some photos so i can show my hairdresser the design and she can advise on whether i need hair bling or not. Also it will help to see how much flesh is out as that will decide how big my jewellery needs to be

I am changing my name, his name sounds way better than mine and i have already got my 2 signatures ready, 1 for work which is just my initials and then my full one for everything else, but I will be sad not to have the same surname as my kids and that does bother me.
