You can change your name anytime. At your wedding you will sign your name either as your maiden name or your married name. If you take your married name you can then start letting companies know when you get back off your honeymoon - you don't have to change your passport, you can wait till that runs out but other things will need to be changed - like driving licence etc. But if you aren't sure whether you want to change your name, and sign as your maiden name, then you'd have to change your name via deedpoll to change it to your married name. This can be done for free - and if you search name changes on MSE you can find out more.
Hope all that makes sense?

I thought you signed the wedding certificate in your maiden name- whether you are taking on your married name or not?0

Oh I don't know - i just assumed you signed the registry entry in the name you were taking. But you might be right - you might sign that in your maiden name, and then get a certificate in your married name if you were taking his name.
Either way you have a certificate either in your married name that you can then use to change your name with people (in your own time), or you have one in your maiden name and you'd have to then change my deedpoll if you changed your name.
At least that is my understanding anyway - lol probably best to phone your registry office and ask0 -
Im sure its in the maiden name- because you arent official married until you sign it.
Im sure when we went to give notice she said it was signed in the maiden name- but im doubting myself now. need to go do a bit of google research!
I cant wait until 28th April when I can take my passport form to the registry office for them to sign so I can send off for my passport in my married name!0 -

I'm now wondering whether the wedding certificate says what name you will be known as or whether it just says Miss X and Mr Y married on such and such date. In which case you could decide at a later date whether you wanted to take on Mr Y's name. (if that makes sense).0

Don't know how long beer/lager usually lasts for but I've just ordered 36 bottles of Corona for the wedding for £30 (from Asda) - cheapest I've seen before has been £34.50 (usual price £41.75!!) If it's use by date is past the wedding MrD will just have to have a very merry Christmas lol.
So far I've saved £95 on our alcohol! :T0 -
Oh nooooo not christmas already lol
Nice looking tree there Natalie, just think it's your last xmas as a 'single' (unmarried?) woman! Well done on your slimmer calves
I have absolutely no idea whether to change names or not - part of me thinks I should because it's the done thing, and it'd be loads easier, but I like my name better than his! They don't sound any good together either so I can't really hyphenate them! I half thought about changing my name 'officially' but just keep being called 'Miss K....' at work, what do you reckon? It'll save me having to announce getting married to the kids too. My signature is just a squiggle anyway so I won't bother changing that!
We went to the pub where we are having our reception today and on the off chance asked them about the extension that they are having, well it looks like it's all on and should be up and running by the end of March. The pub has a meadow type garden with a little stream running through it and we have already booked that for our own use, but they've said they will be making a separate bit that'll be private now anyway and will have a little wooden bridge over the stream - that's gonna be fun when everyone's p!55ed!
I'm glad they've said it will be done though - as much as I'm not too fussed about the finer details of the wedding, I didn't really want the place to be a building site, especially as it's such a pretty place.
Loving all the talk of sweets - I decided against that because I know I'd end up eating them all lol...
xThs signature is out of date because I'm too lazy to update it...0 -
Natalie- you are doing very well on you savings for your alcohol. Oh that would be a shame if the beer date is before the wedding- although Im sure MrD wouldnt be too disappointed!:D
So far on alcohol I have got:
6 bottles of rose in the asda 3 for £10
6 bottles of white in the asda 3 for £10
8 bottles of martini asti- usually £7.50 a bottle, I got for £5 a bottle so im doing ok at the moment- Im not providing loads and loads as we just dont have the budget and there is a bar there, but it would be nice to be able to provide a glass or 2 with the food and a glass for the toast.
Whoops- just had a naughty dinner- we slow cooked a joint of lamb- it was so yummy Im now stuffed but we had that with a giant yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes!
I cant wait to take ohs name- but my signature needs some thought- at the moment my initials flow but they wont when Im married! I will have to have a think!!0 -
I've got my signature designed - I just need to practice it so each time it looks vaguely identical lol.0
