hi pbny, Long time no see :)
How exciting that you've seen a dress that you like - what's the style of it? Perhaps you could find a similar one but cheaper?

    It was this one.

I wouldn't want to order from china though so maybe a similar lace design. Have seen a couple of others I liked when I tried them on, but in photos it just doesn't seem right. Cutting it a bit fine for ordering now though!
  • That is a stunning dress- have you looked around as Ive heard prices can vary between shops, and sometimes you can ask what the best price is and you could get some money off. Also sites like preloved, sellmyweddingdress, ebay- if you dont want 2nd hand they do sometimes have new dresses on these sites.

Pics- er ill try and find my camera. Ill try and put some on next weekend as oh is working so ill have plenty of time.

Im debating whether to go and try my dress on today- i so know its going to be a bit too tight so dont know whether it will be a good way of motivating myself or if ill then feel pants and eat a load of chocolate!!

I really should get up and go and sort the reception thing out!:rotfl:

Well after doing really well for 2 weeks - getting my bloatedness back under control and getting under a stone away from my target I've been crap on and off this week resulting in me feeling really sluggish this morning. Argh. Why do we do it!! - I have 2 weeks till we go to Tenerife to get myself kicked back into touch! RAAAAAAAAAR!

Aw everyone's so friendly here! thank you for your kind words.

sorry to disappoint though, I'm only making one bridesmaid dress (although my other bridesmaid is gay, he has confirmed on many occasions that he will not be wearing a dress lol!). hopefully I'll make some progress on the bridesmaid dress this afternoon...

So I saw a commercial sewing pattern that I liked (and also the finished products of other people's creations based on that pattern) so I bought it and made a couple of toiles/mock-ups with different alterations to decide what to do for the actual dress. I also went to try on a few dresses in the shops - that's part of the whole experience, right ladies? so I learned what suited me better etc. There are still finer details on the dress that I haven't decided 100%, but hopefully I will come to an conclusion soon...

Re the dried rose petals - I learned that based on another thread here - so I could (hopefully) use them for decorations/confetti etc etc. but as I said, who knows if they will last for almost a year!?

I also attempted to make a bouquet today! well, it was a very brief attempt, with roses from my garden (those rose bushes are very productive!) I will upload it onto my blog shortly. It took about 15 mins (including cutting and preparing the stems) and it's of course still very simple, also limited to the roses I currently have in the garden.. so it's not perfect but not bad for a first attempt... oh and it was of course free!

Went to a local wedding fair this morning - not sure how useful that was actually but it was nice to meet more local photographers etc (struggling with finding a reasonably priced one for now) to have more options.

P.S. does anyone know if I'm allowed to include my blog in my signature?

P.P.S. I could do with losing a few pounds too - better get started soon!

Oh and I'm very impressed with all the buttonholes!

Also Melanie - sorry to hear about the extra charges! It's really unfair that venues could just hide some of the extra charges until your contract is signed. Is there anyway you could speak/complain to the venue and get some sort of discount?

wxy - :) Sorry I can't help - no idea if you're allowed to put a link to your blog in your signature. I seem to remember a ban on links in general in signatures but I may be very wrong!
I'm still so impressed that you're making your own dress. It'll be interesting to know how much you spend on it in total at the end and see how much you've saved by being so creative! :) I bet it's very MSE!

Well I have spent about 6 hrs 30 mins (minus 30 mins for lunch) writing 12 reports (which summarise an assessment I've conducted, and provide advice for schools), and marked 32 maths QCA style papers. I'm shattered and my back hurts from being slumped over the laptop for so long. Got a run later so that should help loosen me up!
  • wxy- do you have a real name? Im with Natalie (MrsD)- im so impressed your making your dress. Where in the country are you?

Natalie- im impressed your going for a jog later- i think i would just be chilling on the sofa! Well done on getting your work all done though.

My reception is all sorted, they now have a copy of my paperwork and we are booked in now and arent just an enquiry!:D
