Oh I really like that Emma - it looks really elegant :)
  • hi all :)

A little update, saw my hall and its perfect for what i want and i booked it!! :D so its really going to happen!!!

just a question on the wedding invites do people still address them Mr and Mrs request the pleasure of x and x to the wedding of their daughter...?

My parents are divorced so not sure if this is the done thing??

Also button holes/corsages? who Needs one (i am not giving one to everyone) as its a waste of money for my lot, but who should have one and who has double and singles?? its just so confusing :S
  • :j on booking the hall Annie. Im putting my name and ohs name, my parents are divorced and we are paying for a huge chunk of the day so it will be our names of the invites.

    Buttonholes will be:
oh (who is having a pink rose, everyone else is having ivory roses)
    Best man
    my dad
    ohs dad
    ohs step dad
    My grandad (I think)
oh, best man and my dad will have some pearl strands or something in theirs to make theirs a bit fancier

My nan and maybe my oldest sister will be having a fresia corsage. My mum and ohs mum will probably have a fancy corsage but ill decide on that once they have their outfits.

I guess its up to you if anyone has doubles, I guess you may want say oh to stand out a bit more.

It really is your choice on what you have and who has them. Ohs mum is doing ours (all artifical) and tried telling me oh and best man 'should' have the same, but I said I really wanted oh to be a bit different and for people to be able to pick him out as being the groom.

    Sorry for the ramble!!:rotfl:

Oh brilliant news Annie!! :T I bet you are beaming that you have your venue booked!! Are you getting married there as well or is this just for the reception? :)

The way I approached my invites was we're paying for the wedding therefore it's us that are inviting people. Had my mum been paying I think I would have written something along the lines of "Ann Jones is delighted to invite you to the wedding of her daughter Natalie Jones to Mark Smith". I don't think I'd have done "Mrs A. Jones" just because that would inspire a formal wedding where as ours is anything but formal. :)

I have shared this photo before but you may not have seen it - this shows what I've written on ours. Lol not the traditional wording by any stretch of the imagination.

With buttonholes (and all things weddingy) there is no such thing as 'should'. It really is about whatever you want. At our wedding MrD, and my granddad are definitely having one. MrD well cause he's the groom, my granddad cause he's walking with me down the aisle. I have made 1 extra one (at the moment) which I think will be given to MrD's dad - who I think we'll probably ask to do a reading. But all three are going to be the same. I think if I was going to do 'doubles and singles' I'd make MrD's the only one with anything extra. Hope that helps!!
  • oooh Mrs D your invites are lovely.... :) no the hall is just for the reception we are getting married in our local church, I think i will just do it from us as my parents are giving me some money towards but certainly not paying for it!!

On button holes etc... here is what i was thinking:

H2B, best man, my dad double button holes
    Single roses for 5 brothers
fancy corsage for my mum and SIL

(both H2b's parents are dead, so feel like his bros should have some fancy flowers to make up)

do you think that sounds ok? Its riving me nuts all ready how you ladies who have been planning for years are doing it i dont know!!! LOL
  • Afternoon . . . most weddingy thing done today is purchase some purple buttons from ebay ready to start the BM button bouquet. Having chosen the BM dress, she is going for the long one (i sooo knew she would!) i now have the colour theme to follow along with my buttons. The venue is currently painted in purple and lilac and as it has only recently been decorated they have assured me it won't be altered before our wedding - so decided on lilac and pink flowers and napkins etc for the tables.

Well done Annie on booking your venue, you can get some serious planning done now and sort out looking for your decorations etc. I'm with Natalie on the invitation wording. I am having mine printed with the words Melanie and Ian invite you etc . . . . as we are the hosts and paying for everything. I also thought by not putting our surnames on it would keep it less formal
  • Oh I hadnt thought about whether to use surnames or not, ill have to write it down and see what oh prefers. I guess as I have an unusual first name theres no chance of anyone thinking it was from anyone else!! (to those im friends with on facebook when you talk to me on hear can you call me Emma- I dont really like the idea of my full name used on hear, plus almost eveyone apart from my nan calls me Emma anyway:))

Melanie- glad you have sorted the bridesmaid dresses, its great once you have a colour as you can colour match everything.

That sounds fine to me, and at the end of the day if its what you want then go with that- dont worry about pleasing people or doing something because its tradition. Our wedding has been booked for just over a year, and the planning has all gone fairly smoothly so far- I guess its because I think of it as our day so im doing what it right for us.

Annie - sounds fine to me too :)
Lol if it's any consolation - the not having anything left to organise at this moment is driving me nuts!! :rotfl:. (Hence why I'm so glad I have the invite envelopes to tart about with lol. I think tomorrow I might try printing direct onto the envelope - I'm not sure I want a sticky label line detracting from the rest of it. I'll do the one for MrD's parents cause that'll be hand delivered so it doesn't matter if they move).

Melanie - yaaaaaaay at deciding on a bridesmaids dress and hence colour!! :D Bet you can't wait to start on her bouquet! And how fab that the venue's decor will tie in too!! :D

    Well I today I have:
Done 3 loads of washing - got two dried on the line, the final one is going on the radiators over night I think. (Why has it got so cold!)
    Exercised
    Sorted out cheaper home insurance
    Had a very long nap

I must write this letter tonight. Eek!
  • well i got some little crystal stick on thingys for my invites i got blue and clear as didnt know wht to use and useing one blue and on clear on each. its really simple but glams up my invites a little (i will post pics natalie :p)

as for button holes i have no idea what im having but know who for:

    OH
    Best Man
    Mum
    Dad
    MIL
    SFIL
    FIL
    SMIL
    Bro
    and
    BIL
we only have one grandparent each so they might have one too.
