    Hello

Can you help me figure out where I'm going wrong.

I've had a few goes now at cooking flapjacks, but after cooling they are rock solid. I want them like those soft supermarket ones.

    Here's what I'm using

    15g butter
    50g caster sugar
    4 tablespoons of golden syrup
    275g of oats

Cooked at 190 for 20 minutes.

    Jason:rolleyes:

    Hi there

Try this recipe - its out the remoska cook book -but you can son do them in the oven ;) -the best flapjacks i have ever had
    1. 175g butter or marge
    2. 1tbs golden syrup
    3. 125g demerara sugar
    4. 225g porridge oats
    5. pinch salt
that mix will make and 8" round and they are lovely n soft n chewy ... when you cook them take them out whilst still pale brown -they will carry on cooking out of the oven whilst they cool down
I think white sugar makes them crispier -well it did when I tried it :o

  • Id guess too hot.
Not sure what the conversion is but I do mine at Gas 3.

From what I remember it's the sugar that makes them go hard, so more butter/syrup is softer. Play around with the proportions until you get something you really like! I'm sure you'll always find people prepared to eat them!

Where did you get the recipie from? looks like theres not enough butter and far too much oats in there. It also depends how big your tray is, as the bigger the tray, the thinner and therefore harder/crisp the FJs.

    Try these:

    250g marg/butter
    250g caster sugar
    175g golden syrup
    425g oats

melt butter syrup and sugar gently in sauspan/microwave
    stir in the oats
pop into a greased tray (a 19cm x27cm ish shouls give you nice chunky ones)

oven at 180 for 10-15 mins makes about 18 bars

    another variation:

    100g marg or butter
    1 tbsp goldern syrup
    100g sugar
    50g oats
    50g SRF
    75g crushed cornflakes

melt marg and syrup in gently in sausepan/microwave
mix all dry ingredients in bowl
add marg mixture to dry ingredients
    pop into a tray
    bake 190 for 15-20 mins.

    Hope that helps.

Here's a microwaveable, no cook flapjack that's made in 10 minutes (then setting time) and is soft and moist and mmmmmm:

I like it because it's all done in one jug so minimum time/effort and washing up. In fact ... I'm tempted to go make some now.
