I always find that if I add one or two mashed bananas, they are more chewy and less crunchy. The banana binds them together without hardening them.0

80g brown sugar
40 g butter
60g marg
250g oats
1 mashed banana
pinch salt
2 tbsp honey
I often add a few tbsp of crushed seed (pumkin, sesame etc) too
Melt butter and marg, add sugar and honey, add outs, add salt, mash banana and add with seeds if using. Bake in preheatded oven at 220 for 15mins, stand for a couple of mins then score. Cool and cut into squares.
With the banana and optional seeds, these are energy packed and nutritious too!
Mmmm made these last night and they're yummy. No sticking either.
Just one problem, I made them with Tasmanian leatherwood honey whch overpowers the flavour a bit, but I'll defo make them again.0 -

I find lining the base of the tin with that reusable liner you can get from Lakeland stops them from sticking in the middle.0 -

You might like these given by Pooky - very good too.
4 oz butter/marg
3 oz golden syrup
8 oz porridge oats( Tesco value or similar)
3 oz soft brown sugar
handful of dried fruit( optional)
Preheat oven to Gas 4
Put butter/marg and syrup in microwave bowl and microwave for 90 secs.
until melted
Mix in porridge oats and fruit if using , ise a little extra oats if seems v. runny
Press into baking tin - do not line Can grease with fry light ? or butter.
Bake at gas 4 for approx 20 mins until turning golden brown.
Mark in tin whilst hot but transfer when cold.

Hi,
My daughter is going to be making flapjacks at school, I just wanted to know if the golden syrup can be substituted for clear honey & also it says I need brown sugar, I have demerara sugar would this be ok? I'm guessing from the colour its the same as brown sugar?? -I haven't read the packet yet... If she can use these then it will save me a trip to the shops & a few pennies as I already have these in the cupboard.
OMG - I just re-read what I have written - I feel so daft for asking, sounds like something most people should know...0 -

Hi, there! You can substitute demerara for *brown sugar*. I find that it gives a slightly crunchy texture, and good flavour.
You can also substitute honey for syrup.

Demerara sugar will be fine, but I'm not at all sure about honey instead of syrup. I think it has too much water in it to work properly. I may be wrong though, someone else may have had success with honey.0
