Mmmm flapjack. Not very healthy, but a great treat. It's really good with a little chopped pecans, glace cherries and sultanas too.

They maybe not healthy in one mind. But in my mind they're ok. If you think about it, it's butter, sugar, golden syrup and rolled oats. All natural ingredients - no artificial anything, just 4 things of which one is very healthy as in the oats.

I used to think they were really bad for you, but once you look at the added stuff shop bought baked goods have in them, you can look at it differently.

I microwave my ingredients for a few secs to melt them and then add the oats. I agree the tin size is important and I always make sure they feel springy before I bring them out of the oven. Oh and make sure you mark them into squares quite quickly once out of the oven. Otherwise they can be quite hard to do so once they have set a bit!

Sure they are natural. Don't get me wrong, I need to eat them after a long ride, and love them. I eat them to keep my weight up, and they are about my only treat. But as you know they do include a high level of saturated fat, not so good for people who don't exercise or otherwise eat a balanced diet.

    Microwave flapjacks are the way to go . . . . .:)

There's a recipe up here somewhere.

    It's here.
    Where now?

After bitter experience(!) i suggest that once you have lightly marked them - after 5 minscoming out from the oven- that you leave the tin to completely cool. Otherwise you find that the mixture doesnt cut into decent shaped bars but you are left with sticky crumbs! Hope that helps.

The only flapjack recipe I've ever tried was the one that Thriftlady has linked to above.........they worked perfectly first time and the children loved them.

If you find they are beginning to burn on the outside while the middle is still not quite cooked, you can take them out of the oven for a few minutes and stir the inside towards the middle before flattening and putting back into the oven to finish off.

Try as I might I seem up able to make flapjack that doesn't stick to the tin. I've just spent ages chiselling it out..yet again!!! Tastes nice but its all in bits. Has anyone a solution?
We don't need to do it perfectly - good enough is exactly that GOOD ENOUGH.

  • Greaseproof/baking parchment??

I make mine on a buttered glass pyrex sheet and it works fine.
