Thanks Puddings. I was thinking that doing something on the lines of what you have suggested would be a good idea and came on here specifially to search if there was a thread about it, so you have save me from being disappointed.

I always do my main shop at Asda anyway, because it is more convenient. I think now that in future, I will put eight or more items in a separate basket to pay for them separately. The sort of things that I would have previously thought about a special trip to tesco to buy.

I got £2.77 yesterday. That was on a pretty small shop; I do my big shop at Tesco.

I have had quite a few vouchers from them, my highest being £2.57 and my lowest being 2p (Yes, I am one of those ones who will take anything!!)

Someone was in asda on Friday with one for £13 ish. I don't do a big enough shop for it! And before it was cheaper, but now it's 10% cheaper. So do a £100 shop, it has to be at most £90 at another shop. What gets my goat, though, is I had a receipt with 56 items on, yet there wasn't 8 "comparable" items on there. After searching a bit, I found that items had to be the same weight. Surely they can work out what an extra 10g would cost?? Too much work maybe

copy of info from mysupermarket website
mySupermarket only compare like for like products (i.e. branded products that are identical or very similar own label equivalents) For very similar own label products mySupermarket ensure these products meet the same needs or are intended for the same purpose.

Ways in which mySupermarket do this include:
    • Identifying the key characteristics of the products including flavor, whether it is organic, Fairtrade, low fat, gluten free, free range or eco-friendly and ensuring that they are not matched in a way that gives any retailer an artificial advantage.
    • Where products are of a different size, weight or volume ensuring that the difference in size, weight or volume does not favour one retailer over another.
    • Compare goods where there is no more than a 10% difference in size/weight/volume and will ensure that the prices are adjusted so that the equivalent price of identical size/weight/volume products are compared.

Below are a few examples of products that may look like they should be matched but wouldn't meet this criteria:

    • ASDA Bananas by weight vs. Sainsbury's Bananas by weight - These products aren't comparable because Sainsbury's bananas are Fairtrade whereas ASDA’s are not.
    • ASDA leaf spinach 1kg vs. Tesco leaf spinach 1kg - These products aren't comparable because ASDA leaf spinach is chopped whereas Tesco's is the whole leaf.
    • ASDA Lean steak mince 500g vs. Tesco Beef Steak Mince 500g - These products aren't comparable because the ASDA steak mince is lean (lower fat content) whereas Tesco's is regular (higher) fat.
    • ASDA Little Angels Cotton Soft Baby Wipes (80) vs. Sainsbury's Little Ones Eco Baby Wipes (72) – These products aren't comparable because Sainsbury’s wipes are biodegradable whereas ASDA’s are not.
    • ASDA Paracetamol Tablets (16) vs. Sainsbury's Paracetamol Capsules (16) – These products aren't comparable because ASDA's are tablets and Sainsbury's are capsules.
    • ASDA Thin & Crispy 10 inch Meat Feast Pizza (341g) vs. Tesco Thin Crust Pepperoni Pizza (310g) – These products aren't comparable because the ASDA pizza has a larger variety of meat on its pizza while the Tesco one just has pepperoni.

No, you've got it the wrong way round. They are guaranteeing that they will be at least 10% cheaper now; ie, if it would cost £100 in Tesco, it should cost £90 in Asda, or you get the difference back. It's a better offer than previously.
  • Hi - the ASDA price guarantee site isn't working for me either. Input the till details, click "compare prices" and it says it's doing so. Then a minute or so later just returns to the input screen, but input is disabled. I've tried this several times today, yesterday and the day before. The screen does have a (new?) Notice which states :
Note: please be aware between 9am and 12pm is our busiest time on the website which may result
in errors due to system overload. We recommend that you check your shop after 12pm.
I'm guessing the advertising campaign has caused a spike in usage that the servers can't cope with? On a more general note - I get around 50% hit rate for suitable comparisons, have had two vouchers in about 40-50 visits, one for £1.47 and one for 4p. I printed them off and used both!
I will look into Arhna's cunning ploy though!
  • Beware the different offers closing dates and the timelag in being able to enter your till receipt.

Yeah sorry, my mistake. I mis-heard the advert :o
And yes it is a better offer.

*EDIT* I actually stood in asda today and read the huge sign they had there for about ten minutes trying to figure it out. In their words: If the asda shop = £100 and tesco = £100, they will give you a voucher for £10. If asda = £93 and tesco = £100, they will give you £7.

I wasn't going to quote on all, but yes, that's pretty much the jist.

I personally think it's another way to get out of using them items too :)
