I have been doing some research on Asda price guarantee and have come to the decision that they are only 10 % cheaper if you shop and buy offers.

I shop at Tesco as a rule but have used asda recently checked my receipts and have only once had a voucher because they are not 10% cheaper. But then I look at what I have been buying , would I have actually bought it if I had been shopping at Tesco and in most cases I wouldn't.

For example I buy snacking crisps when shopping I found myself buying pringles at asda as they were on offer at a pound I would have bought something else that was on offer at Tesco.

Other things I have noticed at asda is the product range and that I am forced to purchase items at a higher price at asda that I would have had a Mid price alternative for at Tesco. I.E. Ketchup I would not buy smartprice or value but I am quite happy with oakvale discount brand from Tesco. At asda the choice is Asda or branded. When I put my receipt comparison in the Asda and Tesco products are the same price but the fact is I would have spent 10p less on the discounter brand, but because asda don't stock these no price comparison is made.

So to confirm my findings I pulled up my favourites from Tesco .com into my supermarket. So these are products that I actually buy on a week to week basis. The results for prices was as follows.

    Tesco £56.88
    Asda £61.37
    JS £71.94

so at Tesco my shopping was actually £4.49 cheaper than at Asda so give or take 7% cheaper at tesco.

It would be interesting to see anyone else who shops at Tesco to compare favourites on my supermarket and see whether or not my shopping is just an isolated case..

sorry to be thick ive not been taking notice of the advert but let me get this right

i go shopping in asda come home input my receipt details and if asda are not 10% cheaper on that day compared to others on mysupermarket i get the difference back?

obviousl this is only on branded stuff mostly which i dont buy anyway so wouldnt really be helpful would it
That's right, except it is not just branded goods, comparable own-brand goods are included (this is actually how I got my last voucher), so try it, you've got nothing to lose. I always input my receipt details and since they changed the guarantee to 10% cheaper I often get a voucher even though I've paid less in ASDA than I would have anywhere else.

I'm sure that the shop you normally do your shopping in is likely to be disproportionately cheaper than a neutral comparison would indicate, precisely because you seek out the special offers, know the range better and can find the bargains more easily. I normally shop at ASDA, because I prefer it to the other supermarkets nearby and it is almost invariably cheaper. The local Tesco is a nightmare to find your way around (the most illogical layout I have ever come across) and Sainsbury's is just too expensive. There is a Morrisons even closer and I tend to go there for small shops - they have some good deals. When I do get an ASDA voucher it tends to be the Morrisons price that has triggered it.

  • Yes I do seek out offers but my favourites are what I buy so I added them all regardless of whether or not they were on offer at Tesco or not and they still came out cheaper

I've got what I believe are all the right details from yesterdays receipt, but keep getting a message to check the details:

"Unfortunately the receipt details entered have not been found.
Please double check the numbers you entered and try again."

I'm certain they're okay; is there a helpline number? I can't actually locate one on the priceguarantee website, just the asda.com online delivery helpline...

EDIT: Ah - I'd redeemed a gift card as well, and was entering the time from the gift card redemption, rather than looking at the very bottom of the receipt for the 'final transaction' time. Sorted ;)

Well on one of my few visits to Asda we just got a voucher for 34p!

Though looking into it only £10 of our shop was comparable, when we spent a £30 something in total, not including some wine

So only a third taken into account which isnt great.... :(

Anyone tried using the vouchers in tesco yet?

As long as there is a comparable product in the same range (value/standard/premium) it will be included. I don't think the weight has to be exactly the same, but it would have to be pretty close.
