  • We can second the Motorcycle Museum as a good trip. Even if your eyes glaze over at the very mention of 2 wheels (I have personal experience of this), they have worked hard to make it interesting. The development of vehicles, by firms now long since lost in the ether is actually very interesting - also how they did designs to attract 'ladies' onto motorised cycles as well is quite inspiring. Some of the stuff from the 1900-1920 era would not look out of place on roads today.

Also, what about Proms in the Park - it's coming to Caerphilly this year - not sure if you pay to get in (think it's at the castle), but the whole shebang (London, NI & Scotland) looks to have a cracking line up.

Sounds like you've got a lovely couple of weeks planned Cheri! :T And a lovely day today too :T

No idea re present - I have a similar issue (although I've got 3 weeks to sort it out :p) What kind of wellies were you after? I LOVE mine, they were £16, but SO comfy, can walk miles, steel toe capped etc (you might prefer pretty patterns but these are just SO comfy!). Not free though sadly...

Yay to pottering and hope you find something nice to give MR C for his burfday :)

My friend wrote out a jar of her OH's birthday age in 'I love you because.......'
My other friend got 40 silly presents for her OH's birthday and spent the week after his birthday giving him them, some were silly like 'love heart sweeties' or socks, others were things like photos of them together etc, alot of thought, but a random small collection of lovely things...........

I gave Mr Flowers tickets for a concert this year, last year he had his shark dive - I like giving 'experience' presents, that way the day stays with you.

A few random ideas there which are probably no good but there you are :)

    Enjoy your pottering :)

you lovely lot I love you all.

SE and Greying, I do like the look of that museum. We can get directly to the NEC on the train so could do that as a day trip. Will have a look at it over the weekend.
Greying........ erm Mr C and I frequent the real proms every year. We are stalwarts and meet up with lots of friends, join the gallery queue early, go to the last night, stay in youth hostels and imperial college as often as possible. We are on the mailing list, in the club - we go to the afternoon proms in Cadogen Hall, the pre proms talks. I think you might get the picture so that was a lovely sugggestion but I also have to say that we are bit snobby when it comes to proms in the park :) Sorry but why pay £20 to stand in a park getting wet when you can pay £5 to see the real thing. ;) We probably wont get to the proms as much this year because of the whole Austrian Adventure but it is a sacrifice worth taking.

Pippi, great ideas. I too like to do things that create memories rather than material things. I did the "Why do I love thee, let me count the ways" jar last Christmas in which I put 365 reasons why I love him. Have done the message in the bottle, photos etc etc. Last year I took him on a picnic mystery adventure where we went on a steam train and then got off to have the picnic by a river. Lovely. This is why I am struggling. I have wondered about doing a treasure hunt. I could go to the forest during the day and plant parcels around the forest for him and then give him a map with clues to find them. We could do that in the evening.

Dr Daffs - well because the wellies are for Mr C then I expect that he wouldnt be impressed with a yellow pair (although I know if I bought him silly wellies he would wear them to please me) but steel toe capped would be useful for him for work when on site. I wondered if wellies was a bit too practical a gift but he loves wearing his wellies to walk Moo and they leak!

Well Cheri, these are my wellies, and they are indeed Utterly Fabulous. I reckon a treasure hunt is a lovely idea! :T :T First treasure could be wellies, and the other treasures could involve splashing through lots of mud :D

Hmm, difficult one with the gifts.... Do you sing or anything? Would you be able to record him a little song? :) Or what about a CD of some either favourite songs, or some really unusual songs or styles of music that he might like? Will have a think...

Love those wellies! Yes I could give him a list of hiding places and the first could be the wellies - there is a lovely stream to potter in (we do it all of the time) Good thinking Dr Daffs.
:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: to me singing. Not only did Mr Watson tell me I couldnt play the triangle, he threw me out and banned me from the choir. Now that one I have to concede to him being right about. Coco does a lovely version of Twinkle Twinkle (not) and when I said I had no idea why he sounded so bad, Mr C proceeded (in the nicest possible way) to tell me that he sounded just like me when I sang. In fact Mr C is the only person in the whole world who I sing in front of.............. it sounds like a cat being strangled. I am sure that he would find that a  present. One of his favourite pieces of music is Lark Ascending (Vaughan Williams) but he has about 20 versions of it.

Forgot to mention earlier. I thoroughly enjoyed my speed awareness course and definitely learned some new things. For example did you know that there was such a thing as a Pegasus Crossing? Like a Pelican Crossing but for horses :)

Love the idea of the treasure hunt and I think you are never too old to splash in puddles in your wellies :D

Dr Daffs CD idea is a good one. You could put together all sorts from your history together or songs with words that are relevant to both of you (my OH is brilliant at this).

You would think with all the amazing software out there they would be able to make us non singers sounds really good instead of strangling the cat :rotfl:

Re Mr C's birthday present....Whether he he had used the kite or not, I guess he enjoyed last years present? If you, like me, like to give a gift that resonates with the recipient, then that's the only way to choose a gift. Good luck (maybe said in Austrian?). xx
What would you get if all you got was what you were thankful for?

Oh Satchmo, he did like last years gift very much. We just havent had chance to get out on windy days. He loved the train ride, the bubbles (for blowing) and the celebration firework (made up of confetti - biodegradeable I add quickly). I do like to think of fun things and the problem is trying to be original. Hence me thinking out loud, sometimes a little comment can send me off on a whole new path.

Mayt, I fear that nothing would stop me sounding like a strangled cat. I think I might try to record Coco and Moo and put that on CD for him. He would like that I think.

What a busy day. Lots done, all boring so wont go into details.

Today I checked out a ticker events count down and it is 6 months 1 week and 1 day to the 31st January. This is the cut off date for the rental agreement on my Austrian House. This does not mean that the couple will either be there until that date or move out on that date because we have an agreement that either side can serve notice and come 31st we can review extending that date. However I am working on that date as the date to aim for having things ready to at least go out there for a very long holiday. So with that in mind I need to start focusing.

Today I had a lightbulb moment. I have a qualification in Aromatherapy Treatments and Massage. I used to practice this a lot and had every intention of starting up a little part time business in this. Not really sure what happened and why I never followed it through. I did also start to train in reflexology but both Mum and Dad were very ill at the time (Dad died in the middle of the course) and so it all became too much and I gave it up. NOW my lightbulb moment was the sudden realisation that I am going to a country where Spas are the norm. There is a massive Spa and Thermal baths being built in the next village to mine. So l have decided today to invest in some refresher training and maybe start the reflexology again. Not sure where the money is coming from to do this so I will need to think of a way to make the money to pay for the courses. Anyway, enough rambling, that is now on paper I can read back and remind myself.
