Quick idea re spaghetti in particular - get yourself some elastic bands, and weigh out portions - stick a band around each portion and tell him that is the amount to need cooking in one go - you could do the same with potatoes but pop the portions into individual bags?🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Morning............. (is it?) oh how I long for a full nights sleep.
Nic, thank you for that very insightful post. You are so right about the treats being essential. I know that a good haircut and colour is very important to me, always has been since the day I left school and could pay to get my hair cut (until then I had very long hair and my mum always trimmed it.Loved it be WOW when I had it styled for the first time I felt so glam) and I really wish that I could find a good hairdresser here. I will continue the search.
Great ideas EH and Nic re the food business........ sadly they wouldn't work. I think Nic has hit the nail on the head, I need to just let him get on with it. It's not as if the food is wasted (he does eat it all Nic) any leftovers become the following days lunch or tea the following evening. I caught myself getting irritated last night because I had just bought a carton of orange and he opened it immediately and by the end of tea half was gone. I had a little giggle to myself as I remembered when I was a kid my Mum would buy biscuits and when we asked if we could have one as soon as she came in she would say "dont open them yet they will all get eaten" it used to drive me potty- what were they for if they weren't to be eaten? I think I am turning into my Mum:eek:Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Just catching up ... I like what you've written about the food, Cheri - "don't open it, it'll get eaten" .... many bells are ringing here!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I know! I used to cry laughing at the Royal Family because the Mum used to say that and I used to wind my Mum up something ruthless about it. You know the one, "Well why buy it if its not for eating?" That would definitely attract a clip round the ear from here. When I found myself thinking it last night I just had to laugh.

hi cherisong,
I saw a card with a lovely quote on it last night in the supermarket so I bought it and thought I would share as I think you will like it.

I so know what you mean on the diary front. I have about 5 I keep up with, read the email updates each day but don't always post

Your mentioning you becoming irritated reminded me of a time when my mum went mad at my Dad. He leaves doors open, cupboards, drawers, you name it. He gets whatever he was looking for (as long as it's right there in front of him, otherwise he won't find it.) and wanders off leaving chaos in his wake.
It drives mum potty. So she'd gone off on one and stormed off upstairs. What did Dad do? He opened every single cupboard door and drawer in the kitchen and waited! :rotfl:
My brother and I thought he was either brave, stupid or mad. And she nearly walked into the trap! But realised, just in time, that all she could really do to that was laugh. As my Dad already was!
It took a while to sink in for my brother and I, but we realised Dad was just pointing out there's no point getting stressed out about things you know you can't change.
I'm sure it still drives her potty but as far as I'm aware she's never hassled him much about it since then.Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Some wonderful posts there, really made me smile. When we were little my gran used to buy my sister and I a mars bar and put it in the fridge. She used to cut it in half so we could share it, we used to spend ages working out if it was equal :rotfl:.
I have learnt some serious lessons about looking after myself and looking good in my job over the last few weeks - a young friend was guessing ages (deadly I know) and he put me in my mid forties (I'm 37) and my friend in her 30's (she's 45) I started to think things over, about my hair, skin regime, clothes etc and I realised that I had been thinking about heading more towards quality than saving money as in the long run quality lasts but kept putting it off. I have Clinique make-up which has been Xmas gifts, but now I have bought a quality hand cream, NO7 face wipes while I wait to get the money together to go to John Lewis/Boots to have a proper clinique review and used body lotion and after only a few days it has made a difference.
I had my hair cut by the owner as my usual girl was not available and it is a better cut (funnily enough the same price £25) and I found a beautiful handbag to fit my diary and notepad etc in - deep red leather - £115 reduced to £34. Its a start and unless it is a choice between eating, fuel and the above I'll keep doing it.
Maybe we are all growing into ourselves at last, knowing what we want and that we are worth it.One small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!

I know what you mean Me. I never wear make-up usually. It makes me feel itchy and gunky mostly! But today we were getting our ID card photos done. Thought I'd best make an effort since it'll be emblazoned on my ID card for quite some time! So had just a wee bit of mineral foundation, some eye-liner and shadow and clear mascara on.

I know just what you mean! I got a No7 tinted moisturiser about 6 weeks ago when I had a £5 voucher, and for the last week or so its gone walkabout - I'm sure its on my dressing table somewhere but a relocation of an office bookcase from the bedroom led to everything that I had dumped on there that was not to do with work has been dumped on my dressing table . It just gives a light coverage and spf that doesn't go all clogged up. Mind you I look at price of the No7 face cream over £20 each item and the entire range is not far off clinique which I love so I'm prepared to wait.
My hardest thing will be resisting the clothes in ASda and Mr T, as they always look pretty and a bargain :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:. DH is converted to Next, smart and washes well but not too expensive while he is trying to lose some weight.
Hope you don't mind the hi-jack Cheri xOne small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!
