I'm glad things looked up for you2023: the year I get to buy a car0
-
Another week rolls on by in the money smartness exercise and the need to scream and have a bit of blow out is feeling strong today. Still the weather isnt too bad so perhaps I can temper the need to spend by going for a long walk in the hills instead. Mind it is very difficult to find things to spend money on in rural Wales.
So with my money saving head on we have managed to save £61 on this years car insurance. Moneysupermarket couldnt resist telling me how well they had done in finding me a quote for £332 this year, despite the fact that I had not even been on the site yet. How presumptious (sp) of them? Heading over to Topcashback earned me £1.76 simply for searching for insurance via go compare and I discovered the lowest quote there was £271. Even better when I spotted that it was with our current insurance company. A quick phone call to them confirmed that they would match the price and (even better) I can pay it monthly by DD with no added fees for that.
Hangs my head in shame as I confess to buying Duncan Bannatynes, How to be Smart with Money. In my defence it was in the bargain bin in Waterstones (what can I say the library was closed because it was Sunday) for £3.00 instead of the £12 cover fee. I have read some of it and yes, lots of it I already know, however I have found out some things about VAT registered when freelancing. So it is all research towards my new patchwork lifestyle. Mind I doubt knowing about VAT in the UK will help me in Austria!
I managed 5 NSDs this week with only spending on Sunday last weekend for fresh veg and milk as part of my menu plan. All going to plan in the Moo household.
Managed to avert a trip North this weekend by Mr C when I pointed out the cost of petrol and the fact that we had spent a lot on the Proms. Strangely he accepted it without discussion. I fear that he is saving up the bombshell of the Beer Festival in October in Warrington that is to come. Oh well, October is another month and lots can happen before then. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. :rotfl: Don't you just love those unsaid moment when you both know what would be said if it were uttered aloud.
Just remember MrsMoo that there's little point stressing and worrying about a decision already taken. So when Mr C does throw his bombshell, take a deep breath, smile and try not to be too hard on him. He does seem to be trying hard. And he doesn't need to worry so much because you do that for him! Just tell him you trust he's thoroughly thought through all the finances.
Please go for a walk in rural Wales for me when the weather is nice. The city has been feeling oppressive the last few day. The weather has been dark and brooding. And whislt I love that in the countryside by a loch, or by the sea, it's just depressing in the city!
Having said that, the sun is peeping through the clouds at the minute so I will go out to play!Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Thanks Nic. I never really worry too much about him deciding to go North for fun (it is better than him having to go North for caring duties I guess) I think you sum up what I was thinking in the first line of your response. I find it quite funny that Men in general dont realise that we have them sussed. As I said October is another month and lots can happen in a month.
It is grey but warm here today Nic. I know what you mean about the city being oppressive, maybe you have been out in the country a bit too much lately. As for lochs well, my most favourite place in the whole world is Loch Lomond. Heaven. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Spending £3 for a £12 book, when you've just saved £61 on insurance is perfectly acceptable! I confess I bought a couple of book at Egyptology last week - I'm kicking myself about the *space* involved, not the money - we all need some treats!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

I'm in Camra and I volunteer. Won't get paid for Manchester but will get free accomodation, have a laugh, see friends and drink beer.
