Yes Cheery, I have pondered that one. Gone round and round with it but as he is getting on now I think it is likely he may need to visit the vet more often. Also as he is so big I like the idea of public liability incase he knocks somebody over. He is the only dog I have ever insured. In the past I always "self insured" Another one of those times when you get caught up in consumerism and then too afraid to back out of it. Silly thing is I am not insured!!!
Hi MrsM, have been lurking as normal. Bubble was 12 when he finally went (an incredible age for a greyhound), and we had to self insure from 9 I think, the insurance quotes just got to be too much money. He remained in amazingly, remarkably good health until the last year, he was just so strong - and while we had a few mishaps with broken glass/thorns in paws when we first got him, there were no major costs for him.
It was the right decision for us to self insure, and even when he went on his arthritis meds, it cost us no more than £50 per month which was less than the insurance was quoting us. If anything awful had happened we would have made a decision - with him being old, we wouldn't have wanted to put him through too much but if he was assured of a good quality of life we would have found the money somehow, cc if necessary. Pet insurance plays on the emotions - one of the worst ones I think!!
The most expensive thing we had done was getting his teeth fixed (notorious in older racing greyhounds) but insurance wouldn't have covered this anyway.
Check your household insurance as sometimes there is some PL cover on that.
I watched the Last Night last week and thought of you - I hadn't seen Lang Lang before but I thought he was just wonderful!! :j I loved how he was enjoying himself so much - some concert pianists are so dreadfully intense and serious. It has given me a kick to look at getting some more piano stuff to listen to. Liszt, Chopin, Debussy and Beethoven are particular favourites but my hands aren't big enough for Liszt and most Chopin.
Hope your ponderings re. Austria are coming together :j
Lots of love to Moo - I am missing my pooch badly today in particular.0 -
Thanks LHG. I would stop paying the insurance altogether myself now to be honest but MR C is such worry wort about it all. Lang Lang is an amazing player. I find him to be a bit distracting sometimes as he enjoys himself rather too much for some pieces if you see what I mean. Stephen Hough and Simon Trpceski I am particularly biased but ste is also excellent (she is my friend)

Oh my! I've been MIA and had loads to catch up on! Exciting times ahead!
Trust your intuition Mrs and you'll know what you need to do to make it work for you!
And I completely agree on home and hairdressers! I have just been "home" for the weekend and left to come "home" today. But when my hairdresser takes off to America for 3-6 months, I might need to make that "home" too!
And I have learned a teeny weeny little bit about classical music as I knew some of those you were talking about in your last few posts! (I've been listening to Radio 3 when driving about at work because I was getting so annoyed at the inane chatter on most of the other stations. Mostly I find it calming. And interesting. Though I don't have a tuned in ear so it'll be a long time before I know what I'm listening too)

Thanks Nic. I still dont know who or what I am listening to half of the time. Another good reason for my book. If I find myself liking a piece of music and Mr C is around I ask him what it is or I listen out on the radio for the name of the piece and write it down. I am beginning to realise though that with classical music I might like a piece by one conductor but not another or a piano solo by one soloist but not another, its all in the interpretations. I have always loved Tchaicovsky but I am really beginning to enjoy Mahler now. You will find your favourites soon. It took me all of 4 years to realise I do like Mahler.
Agree re the inane chatter I find myself switching the radio off a lot now. Although I still love Chris Evans and Simon Mayo. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Thank you Fresh, I really hope that you can find your way. Dont read the whole diary its mostly rubbish that I talk and every body else puts me straight. In brief, I share my life with a big daft Great Dane so I completely understand re your beloved horse and how hard a decision that must be. Big hugs for that. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar.
