Love the idea of lots of different homes :T My mum always used to say I was very much a 'wherever I lay my hat...' kind of person, which I like. If I'm on holiday, even just for the weekend, 'home' is where I'm staying. Home is also my own house. And my mum's house, (and merseyside-way in general).

Strangely enough, was talking to someone last night who'd seen someone at a conference talking about reconceptualising the idea of homelessness away from property and more towards shelter. Interesting stuff.

As for the haircuts... well, I went out last night with a bunch of folk from PhD days. Bizarrely, every single one of them as they arrived (there were about 8 of us) said 'wow, you look really good!' :rotfl: :rotfl: One or two and I would have thought it was just politeness, but I figured I must have actually done something different. Last time I saw most of them was several months ago when I was still cutting my own hair :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: (ok, so I was also right at the end of PhD, which doesn't do wonders for your looks :rotfl: and my thyroid is temporarily sorted out, which also makes me look/feel better, but still!) Will stick with the hairdresser I think :p

I couldn't agree with you more over this - yesterday I had a real attack of the "meh" and for the first time in about a year, I didn't *do* my hair or put my makeup on.

As a result, I became that dowdy person again, my posture was terrible, my shoulders were hunched, and the knock on effect was very noticable.

Today, the straighteners were put to work, and as I stood at the bus stop, I actually almost said out loud that I was standing up straighter with my head held high.

Amazing what a difference it can make!
This is so true. Because I work from home I dont get "dressed up" for work so much. On the days that I put my makeup on, do my hair and put my heels on I actually feel 10 years younger.

MrsMoo, could you stay where you are *and* do some private consulting? It is a possibility KC and one I am looking into

Love the post about the sky and chatting to the cow :):):) It takes all sorts

And as for home .... I have several homes. Liverpool in general. My mum's house, even tho I never lived there. My own house. John Lewis on Oxford Street. Camden Market.

Camden Market is still on my list of things to do. One day I will put it at the top of the list when in London. I have now discovered Borough Market after years of promising to take myself there and I love it there.

Home is a strange thing isnt it. I have a tendency to say home about wherever I am at the time so I guess that I have lots of homes. I say that I have never felt "at home" so much here because I havent made friends but I guess it is more about being settled than being at home. Whenever I am on holiday I usually call the hotel or hostel home by saying OK lets go home. Hadn't realised that really until Cheery said it.
I did live in my previous town from the age of 3 to 44 so I guess that it takes a long time to stop calling it home as Tricia suggested.

I went to Borough Market a couple of months ago, and loved it! Camden Market is younger, more crazy, more oddball. And so much bigger, you wouldn't believe they both get called "markets".... lots of fun :)

• Hey up lady - I hope you have a good weekend - home is a funny concept isn't it? I've not really ever had a permanent one - I use to really work hard in any new space we've had to make it lovely with our 'things' most of them at hte mo are in boxes and I've lost the knack of it temporarily (like cheery says PhD's do crazy things to your head and your hair (!)) life kinda shunts along on auto - must do something about that.

I have a wonderful image of you talking to the lady cow, rumaging in your bag, apologising for being so rude as to be distracted but hope she understood, which of course she would.

Eek to the dog insurance quote - dog walking sounded interesting.....................nice way to get a bit of paid exercise too - and the consulting sounded interesting too.

Doing the kind if of work I do, I'm often a crumpled heap in jeans, wellies and a hat. However, you see alot folk all feminenined up still managing the task at hand - I think I need to start to think about more professional/practical clothes rather than my normal 'wurzel gummage' look...................

Have fun!

Lots of fun indeed KC. Pippi, you have such a way with words, you paint an image in my mind and I was the one talking to the Cow. Described it perfectly you did. Wish I could be so clever.

Now Money Saving Expert is this Diary and I rarely post money saving posts. BAH. Will rectify this and declare my diary a witter free zone (yeah like I will stick to that - not) and record of at least some money things. So in the spirit of things Saturday is going to be my Money Update post so here goes.
Top Cash Back.
After falling out with Quidco because they wont give me my £4.99 as it is my yearly subscription I decided to go to Top cashback to search for Pet Insurance. When I logged on I discovered £42.01 waiting to be collected :j:j So quickly shifted that over to my bank account - takes 3 days to go in it seems. I then used the site for pet insurance quotes and ended up with £55 cashback when changing my policies over.

Pet Insurance.
Sainsbugs have been my insurance of choice for the whole of Moo's life. It started out 7 years ago at £10 per month and has steadily risen to £40 this year. I know that is a lot but being a dane any vets fees for accidents would cost a fortune. I have been thinking about cancelling but couldnt bear to think how I would pay for any operations should he need them. Only alternative to not paying is not worth contemplating. When I got the renewal quote £903 I couldnt believe it. I went on line and found the exact same quote with them for new customers for £702 and cashback and a £25 gift voucher so I rang to see if they would discount mine. NO Way Jose they said. I would have to cancel and buy a new policy. this would mean that he would not be covered for anything that might show up in the first 14 days. I told them to cancel my policy. Went onto TCB and discovered More Than with a better cover range than Sainsbury at £671. A saving of £232 and then cash back of £55 so a total saving of £287. :T

National Lottery.
I remembered that I had bought some tickets on line a few weeks ago with a little money that I found (when it was £161 million) and discovered that I had 2 wins. !x £3.60 and 1X £2.70. And so I have duly bought a ticket for tonight (lotto plus 5 =£2) and one for next Tuesdays Euromillions (£2) Total winnings £5.30 Total spend £4.00 still £1.30 up

Todays plan is to find car insurance at the cheapest rate possible with cash back for Mr C.

• Total NSD = 4
• Total Money Saving = £232
• Total Money earned = £60.30

Total Spent
£4 = lottery ticket
£1 - Laura Ashley lampshade in CS (might sell on ebay)

Excellent news cheri! :T :T

(especially the lottery win - love it  :rotfl: :rotfl:)

I have a friend who 'self insures' - ie just pays what she would pay to insurance into dedicated bank account. Would this work out for you? I suppose there's a dangerous time at the beginning while you're saving up...

Yes Cheery, I have pondered that one. Gone round and round with it but as he is getting on now I think it is likely he may need to visit the vet more often. Also as he is so big I like the idea of public liability incase he knocks somebody over. He is the only dog I have ever insured. In the past I always "self insured" Another one of those times when you get caught up in consumerism and then too afraid to back out of it. Silly thing is I am not insured!!!

Thank you Hypno. Have a cup of chamomile tea (passes across and saves the G&T for later).
