Well done on the job offer! Even better that it was not the one you interviewed for as that means they really wanted you. That must be very confidence boosting. Would you do it if the money was better? Could there be any leverage there?
Why did you use the term "going back home"?"Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Hmmm good question. I moved to this part of the country 2 years ago so I always say going home when I go to my old town. Probably because that is where all of my friends and family are. When I go there it is comfortable for me. After all I spent 40 years there so it fits like an old shoe. I guess that I have never really settled where I am fully. Dont get me wrong I love the area, the countryside is beautiful and I am very lucky to be able to go to the beach and the mountains whenever I choose to but I miss my friends and family a lot. Also I did not choose the house that I am living in as I moved in with my OH so I guess that, as much as I love sharing my life with him, I have never really been "at home". Last week and all that I did in the short space of time has given me lots of new insights into my current mindset and lots of things to ponder with some major things to put in place.
Thanks for those lovely words regarding them wanting me. I would like to think that I made an impression. Given the way that the interview went I did think I had done that but I did also think that they felt that I was overqualified for the job that I was applying for but they understood the reasons for it.
No leverage for the money at this point but yes I would do it as it is in Austria which is where I want to be.Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Congrats on the job offer - whether you take it or not, it is good to have the knowledge that you have options going forward!

Money Alert
Ok, so the job that they have come up with for me is an AD HOC job in AUSTRIA!!!!! They will pay all transfers to and from Austria for the weeks that they would need me out there. This will be a fantastic opportunity to get to dip my toe in and get to know people whilst still tying up some odds and ends here. Obviously it is not possible whilst doing the job that I am doing at the moment so I have just been working out some sums and I have done the Matrix KNOW YOUR NUMBERS exercise. I have worked out that to be able to do that job but still survive in the meantime I would need to be making £90 per day (allowing for several days off and holidays per month) in order to keep to my current standard of living. When I put it into those terms it doesnt sound so bad does it? So need to think of a cunning plan. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Oh my goodness that sound superb......
£90 is certainly doable in my experience, and I am sure you can make it happenSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
That is FABULOUS. I am so excited for you ... whoever you are ... whatever the job is! Ninety pounds is very doable, and the ad hocness will give you a chance to try out other ways to earn that you may not have thought of doing, or that you might not have found the time to do. It could be the opportunity you didn't know you were looking for.

That does sound as if it was meant to be. To be paid to work over there, even if it is part time should help with the networking and finding your way round. Fingers crossed for you.
I know what you mean about moving and not feeling at home. For the first year I was 'oop north' I travelled a lot for work and didn't really settle. The next year I was working locally and it all started to fall into place. 10 years later, the local paper referred to me as 'a former Southerner' I wasn't sure that meant I was now a Northerner or not.
I also know what you mean about the hair cut. It took me years to find one I could trust to do what I asked for and when she left, I just let it grow and cut my own fringe. Four years on, I decided to try again and have found a lovely salon and a young girl who is listening and she is so good. :T
I feel so much better in myself, I think it has even affected my posture. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Blimey Mrs Moo!  What a fabulous job offer!! :j :j :j £90 a day you say? Doable for a fabulous lady like yourself
Is there anything you can cut out of your expenses temporarily? (not your hair cut!) How utterly fabulous, and you're right, it would be so valuable for dipping your toes in and getting to know people in Austria! :j :j :j :j Well done you, you obviously DID make an impression! :j :j :j :j
You know, several months ago I would have entirely not got the haircut thingCut my own hair for years!
Then I had one, they cut me a fringe and shaped it, nothing special, and now I really enjoy going
Not an expensive place, £10 for a dry cut, £20 for a wash/cut/dry, and I probably only go once every couple of months (and alternate £10/£20), but it's brilliant, I love it
What a difference!
(even contemplated having my eyebrows shaped the other day! Sadly landed up working and missing the opening hours and was going to a wedding so had to do it myself, but still!)
Anyway, looking forward very much to hearing all your new exciting plans! :j :j :j0 -
