Morning
I'm the same with reading, love to know whats going to happen.
Thanks for he headsup on Waterstones 3 for 2 ending, I was wondering why everything looked so sparse in there, usually love wandering around spoilt for choice. However I do have a bad habit of reading the reviews on Amazon and it isn't always to my benefit. Some books have such a hate campaign going on with negative reviews, yet I like the sound of the blurb.
Picked up 'The Slap' at a carboot, amazed to find it had over 113 negative one star ratings, it is a little harsh, and I'm only 80 pages in but not sure it deserves such a bad rating .....yet.DC.

Cheri - Mr C is right you know, you need to not spread yourself too thinnly
Any idea why they've not paid him (again?) if you've said before I'm sorry, slowly working backwards here - but they did that before, surely this isnt a co-incidence?

Hi DC nice to see you. I never read reviews about books because I prefer to make my own mind up. I tend to read the first page and if it grabs me I will read it otherwise it is back on the shelf. I do, however listen to friends opinions and will give recommendations a try which is how I have found some great authors.
Pippi, it is a very small firm. I guess it is a bit like you with your patchwork jobs, they rely on money coming in to pay him. This is a job that he will be able to do when we go to Austria too as a freelancer so he is reluctant to cause a fuss. Still it makes it very difficult to juggle things. However he has just rung to say he is paid. The lady who had Moo at Christmas is willing to look after him again and Mr C is saying that he wants me to go to proms and worry about stuff later. Hmm I guess that we do only live once and as long as we can get through to the end of the month. I will have a long think about it.
Pippi, thanks for the hugs. I needed them this morning. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, I will try again tomorrow -- Mary Anne Radmacher0 -
Books can be bought later, the store cupboard can be replenished later, but that prom on that day will happen only then, so if you are not going to starve by going and bearing in mind how much you know you will enjoy it, I'd heed Mr C and give yourself a little pick-me-up and get yerself to it. Something to look forward to, something to enjoy in the moment, and something to look back on - three for the price of one, so definitely a bargain not to be missed."Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen;"
I'd love to be a good example - instead, I am a horrible warning.0 -
Wordsmith, thank you so much. That just brought a tear to my eye. It is the kind of thing I would say to somebody else but rarely allow myself to do.
By the way I havent bought a book for 2 years (oops that is a lie I have bought a couple last year from the charity shop). I tend to do swaps with people and I always take books away with me because I usually find that hostels where I say have bookswapping shelves there. I did however develop a liking for house magazines and have rather too many of those at the moment. Some days there aren't any trumpets, just lots of dragons. Courage doesn't always roar. I love the way Wordsmith writes! And its true - that prom, that day, thats the only time it will happen. I really hope you're going to be kind to yourself.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Just been reading Nevil Shute's A Town like Alice. Now going back to the bit where Joe is in England and re-reading. Have to send it back to my friend as it is her book and was just reading it when staying there this weekend after my interview.

I was MUCH too young at around 13 when I read that and it took me ages to get over it. I still remember the feeling. Books are so powerful. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Hi fellow bookworms!
I had so many books, and so little space, so my MSE solution was to take them into work and start a book swap feature. I made a colourful sign. The idea is if you swap a book it's free, if you haven't got a book to offer then you pay £1. The funds go into the organisations coffers.
WHAT, I can hear you cry.... fear not, I work for a charity helping the poorest children in the world's hardest places https://www.worldvision.org.uk. Win, win, I say
Love your diary, and Mr C really needs to prioritise your/his own finances over those of the organisation he works for, instead of being Bank of Mr C! Their cash-flow issues shouldn't cause you/him problems.

Morning, here, have a :coffee:.
Loving the book chat, once I get my head in a book I even forget about cooking tea!
Glad to hear Mr C got paid but maybe they would be better paying him weekly so it didn't look so bad on their cashflow, but I do get his point of not rocking the boat when you get to Austria.
When I picked my doggy up from kennels yesterday they told me that a dog needs to see the body of a deceased pal, they have a strange sense of knowing they are gone for good and accept it, whereas when they don't see it they think they are just missing. This happened when they had a brother and sister, when they lost the sister they thought he would be very distressed but he accepted within a few minutes, then walked away and was fine. At least I know for the future.
Oh, and you will be pleased to hear we survived a weekend of working with no more damage, breakdowns or anything :T. The RAC will be getting withdrawal symptoms if I don't ring them soon .One small step for ME, one giant leap for my family!
