i think you should still be able to see it, everytime i put all the details in router name-passwords etc.. nothing would happen but i'm sure i'd clicked forget network as i'd previously made a mistake and then since then nothing would happen so i just reset the phone and started again
it may help (or may not) there's nothing more frustrating, the ideal thing is for someone to take it out your hands and give it back all sorted, if only everything was as simple ;)

Barjam - not that I am aware of but will check later (in office at the moment and SF at home). Could I have done that but still be able to see plusnet as a device listed in the settings?

Really wish I was more of an expert on this and could tell if its just the phone thats faulty or me (not smart enough for a smart phone!).

  • Thanks for all your help - I have tried as much as possible but still not connecting to wifi. Just had another 40 mins with Orange and they say they ran a diagnostic on it and its faulty - (whether they actually did is another matter as customer services seem to tell you what you want to hear!). However their returns (channel returns) are sending a returns bag and will refund in full when phone returned to them.

I am not keen on a replacement especially attached to Orange so will take my time looking around for something else for daughter, and keep looking at the helpful posts on this forum.

HTC were really trying to be cute with the Wildfire, it's a real bargain basement specification (it even uses the same old 528mhz processor from the HTC Hero) and dressed it up to look like a mini Desire. The only thing not bargain basement about it is the price, compared to the San Francisco it is well overpriced, even at £130.
Yes the SF has a much better screen, but the Wildfire has the better camera and comes with a much better default UI. Of course you can improve the SF with a custom rom (and the wildfire too for that matter) but that's not something the majority of users are going to want to do. The build quality on the Wildfire also feels superior to the SF in my opinion.

The SF is a great spec for the price, no doubt about that, but it's not the best choice for everyone.

If you need a lower budget smartphone with a usable camera and like the Sense UI then the Wildfire is a good alternative to the San Francisco and may be worth the bit extra.

Depends on your point of view, I personally prefer the stock Android UI to Sense UI.

Edit: Anyways, if you don't like the defaults, there are custom launchers (which will run on both) in the Market that are free and don't require any modifications to the phone.

Generally I don't disagree with any of your points, but with regard to the build quality while the older grey San Frans did feel very cheap and made of a poor quality plastic you might want to revisit the issue with the newer white model, perhaps ZTE made a decent profit of the first batch so decided to use better quality components on the run of the white model, they feel just as well made as the Widfire. The plastic casing actually feels more expensive and more substantial.

I still stand by the recommendation that if buyer wants a better Android phone than the SF to rather skip the Wildfire and save up a bit more and go for a Desire.
