I have studied this in my spare time over the last couple of years and it is truly shocking that so many so called experts really dont have a clue and can continue to spout incorrect advice....The EST seem to have their finger on the pulse....the european energy directive seem also to understand but MCS and the BRE seem to be in a world of their own ...almost as of they are industry driven....ooops....did I say that...MCS & BRE industry driven......well I have formaly challenged them and they seem to have listened as they are realising that we can do simple maths....we are not against CO2 reduction and this is exactly why we are fighting to stop the incorrect placement of these products...I just hope the sales people for these products have a good look at themselves in the mirror...mind you they probably believe the spin.....and there we have it...blind leading the blind......for heavens sake this is 2012....0

On the point of air tightness...well I live in a home that is new build level 3...and becasue the home was not sealed correctly the nibe unit was pulling the insidual cavity damp air into the building for over a year which caused a huge damp problem in the kitchen area....so basically if the gaps in your house are greater in area than the vents suuplied for fresh air the fresh air vent will be void...making it extremly important that you have an air tight home when using a device that lowers the pressure in the home ...otherwise you end up witha damp patch (seen in my pics on our FB page nibe boiler problems)...and trying your hardest to expalin this to the builders who are frankly dumb.....remember the not so clever kids at school who did a YTS in brick laying...yep thats them...still dumb just with money now and power.....0

Nothing really has changed.
Cowboys can still install incorrectly or in unsuitable properties and there is no comeback unless a huge campaign is mounted against a specific system - like yours.
The EST could, and should, get involved with sorting out the mess and MCS are toothless.0 -

Err not quite true...
Friends had a Daikin Altherma which went dud after two years, turned out to be an incorrect install although working till then. The installer was no longer around [bust] so Daikin corrected and repaired install free of charge...0 -

I am not talking about equipment that has failed, and needs repair.
My point is about Manufacturers selling equipment to 'cowboys' who are clueless.
If someone lived in a prefabricated shed, salesmen would still take their money and install a system.
My argument is that there should be some effective Regulation(with a capital R) of the industry to ensure that systems are suitable and working effectively post-installation.
You appear to be happy with your system - many aren't!0 -
Out of interest we recently had a powercut for 32 hours and had to rely on the WBS for heat.
Once the heat drained away from the house it got pretty cold. The WBS is nice to have but is out of it's league when compared to the ASHP. So glad when power came back on
Just reinforced the fact that there is no substitue for a proper heating system in place.0 -

I understandJust pointing out that Daikin's support for a 'packaged system' installed incorrectly by a bust installer was excellent.
