Sorry to barge in here - especially as I have not read the whole thread (I will do so over the weekend) but I am reporting my less than satisfactory experience with Virgin hot air balloon experience.

My boyfriend bought me tickets for this for my 40th birthday a couple of years ago. We have had numerous attempts at booking the flight but have yet to manage to get into the balloon as every time so far the flight has been cancelled at 11pm the night before the flight. Therefore, having booked the time off work you dont find out until a few hours before the flight whether or not it will go ahead. We have so far had 4 flights cancelled (thereby losing a combined 8 days holiday from work between us) and whilst Virgin will extend the validity period of the ticket each time the flight is cancelled they wont refund, and if we want to move it to a weekend (which is still subject of course to the last minute cancellation risk) its another £50 on top of the already e. We have been told we can upgrade the ticket so it can used at weekends as well as weekdays but on principle I dont want to pay out yet further money (which becomes as non-refundable as the original £350 we paid) bearing in mind how long I've been trying to book a flight already!

Whilst I accept of course the weather must be fair to fly, I cannot simply keep booking days off work to then sit at home due to cancelled flights, and as such this has ended up being a complete and utter waste of money. I hope I will get to use it eventually, perhaps for my 50th birthday treat?

So, whilst I cant comment on the experience itself, I think Virgin have some explaining to do about their booking procedures.

i had the same problem i got it for my 21st birthday and got to fly when i was 23 lol

it does have to be good whether so only a small slot during the year that is suitable

however i had an upgraded one and if they cancelled it 5 times i was entitled to a refund but never claimed the refund as i wanted the flight

I ordered the balloon flight and spa - both cancelled and I had an order number for them

I was offered the £50 credit - as below

As a further way of our apology we will be applying a credit of £50 to your account which you can use against your next purchase.
Mistakes like this are most unusual and I apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this may have caused you.

It didnt arrive so I emailed to ask when to expect it - the reply I got was -

Thanks for your email about credit for the hot air balloon flight for two, this was never charged to your account due to the pricing error.

I didnt ask about a credit they offered one, so I email back to say that I was offered a £50 credit because they had made an error. So they reply with (even included the email offering the credit )

On checking this issue with a Supervisor I can advise that the 25% discount will be applied if you choose to reorder the Hot Air Balloon Flight for Two, however the £50.00 credit is only available to customers who had already ordered the package and as this was never ordered on your account I'm sorry to advise that we cannot credit your account with 50.00.

I apologise for any inconvenience caused by this.

I cant beleave this - I have a confirmation of the order and an order number, So I have emailed again given the order number and await a reply

Has anyone else had this brush off from Very - I assume they realised just how much it was going to cost them to pay all the £50 credits and are trying to wriggle out of it

Have I any rights to take this further - as they did promise the credit in the first place. ??????

Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T
