Hi all, havent been on for a while as I had the follow up appointment for the surgery on the tumour on my wrist and it was cancer..very rare one. Its low grade chondrosarcoma, had xray and all looks ok and the bone graft is doing well.Im having an MRI in Aug and then 6 monthly after that and my Consultant sounded very positive so I must be too.It does seem to have all been removed which is the main thing.

Take care all and keep on quitting.

Hi Jacci, thanks for the update, sorry to hear it was cancer but good news to get it all out. At least they will be keeping a very good eye on you, Keep up the positive attitude! take it easy :)

Congratulations on 14 Days away from fags, NTC!!! :T You're doing so very well, determined to do it all with as little weight gain as possible too I see. I don't blame you for keeping your eye on it as that too helps you feel so good about yourself. Keep up the wonderful work NTC. :D

    7 weeks for me!!

Getting quite a lot easier...now I just feel pity when I see a smoker (I try not to look too smug though!). Fingers crossed I might have cracked it this time...

Good luck everyone, some amazing achievements on here! Anyone who's reading this thread but hasn't quit yet - COME ON, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Amy, that's FANTASTIC news!!! :T:T Congratulations on getting through that nasty stage that has stopped you in the past!!! I'm really proud for you and of you! :D Battlers usually win, Amy and I'd really love you to as I know how much you want to. Keep continuing on as you have done and slowly you'll get to the winning post and be thrilled to bits!!! :T

Aha! So there must be at least 2 of you weird and whacky folk, then Chrissie as I have a lovely friend in Kent who has a heart of gold, but has a garden full of weird and whacky ornaments - some you wouldn't believe..or maybe you would!! She, like DH & I loves wildlife, but she always wonders why they don't like coming to her garden too much!!!

Hi there jacci, it's really good to see you! I wondered if you had been for the op. It's good to hear it's over and that the tumour is now gone! All the very best to you in making a full recovery and looking at it all in a positive way! We'll be thinking of you, and well done on 7'5 weeks! :T

Morning Jonny and very well done on being on Day 3!!!:T You have so much to look forward to in life now and a great deal to be feeling so proud of!!! Don't forget to save the cash you would have spent, it boosts your confidence even more.

Hi there FDM!! :D I was wondering where you'd got to so am really pleased to see you back - and with all those marvellous stats!!!! :T:T Congratulations on 18 weeks free from smoking, you're doing just GREAT!!!!

Well done on finding the fags and not even thinking about having one - OR worse still - being right back to square one!!

It's amazing how quickly that feeling of "I used to be a smoker didn't I" comes when seeing someone else smoke. You're well on your way, FDM...all you need do now is - stay on it!!! Don't worry, I'm quite sure you will as you're a little older and more wise now! Don't forget us FDM. :D

I have mentioned before about my personal weight gain being 3st since quitting. This, in fact for me is a bonus as I was somewhat underweight to begin with, a measly 9st meant I had to hang on for dear life to random street scenery on a windy day for fear of being carried away to OZ!:o

At 12st I am much healthier and happier within myself.:D

I have mentioned before about my reliance on coffee. Something I am finding much more difficult to stop than smoking believe it or not! I am down to 5 ish cups a day ATM, from a staggering 15ish.

The Gym beckons soon> Can't weight to turn this "flabfest" into a chiselled temple for my wife to enjoy!;)

I'd forgotten all about your weight gain, Darren, whatsisname (can't think of it, though maybe Alan) who was quitting at the same time as you had the same problem..he also was delighted and the 2 of you always shared Champix dreams and weight gain, remember?!!! ;) Strangely enough the ladies never get the same dreams as you guys!! Possibly just as well. :D

It's little wonder you were always so slim if you drank THAT MUCH coffee a day!!! Do you use the decaf type, if not why not try.

oooh I love that last sentence! Thanks for the laughs, Daz, it's good to have the humour back. :grinheart

Very well done everyone and well done to those who maybe quitting by lurking, very well done for you too!!!! :T Anyone wishing to join us, please do so and give yourself the chance of a great gift - the one of good health!

My previous post is born out of previous expreiences when I have stopped smoking/changed diet/cut the caffiene and started exercising all at once.

Too much too soon for me and have failed several times to stick to any one of those lifestyle upgrades.

If an individual feels they have the strength and resolve to tackle any more than one change at once, I certainly am not going to discourage it! :T

Each to their own and you know where to come for a leg up when the grey clouds are looming!:money:

    :TGood Luck all.:T

    Darren.

Firstly don't think I am judging you on your coffee cos I'm not...(do you want my espresso machine?:rotfl:)...

Gradually reduce....so small you barely notice. Try tea? Still has caffeine or half and half caffeine. Or even instant rather than filtered or espresso (just one - less caffeine if out than a filtered/cappucino/latte etc).. Just so that you get it manageable...

Now 5 cups a day down from 15 is huge achievement. Don't forget that. But now it sounds like for you it's baby steps...

I had gastritis with my coffee and ciggies. Didn't stop either TBH. What did reduce the s* was a caffeine psychosis in November. Soon put a stop to it!!!. Now I just have 2 instant (but they're strong) and tea the rest of the day and these are both in the mornings...

You have to find out what works for you and that could be one thing now and one thing in x amount of time. It sounds like you want to reduce the caffeine further but it also sounds like it's your friend. So I'm not judging...just trying to be encouraging and give you options.

    Blessings

    Hello :)
Wow - lots to read through!

jacci - hi, I'm new, nice to 'meet' you :) Massive congrats on how long you have stopped smoking and great news that the surgeon has removed all of the tumour for you - now you can start recovering and living hunny :) xx

    Whoo-hoo fundamental that's fantastic :j Well done :)

NTC - I am just a day behind you :) Doesn't it feel great? Keep going :)

The Gym becons soon> Can't weight to turn this "flabfest" into a chiselled temple for my wife to enjoy Ooh love it shadydaz! Lucky wife - whit-whoo ;)

My nose feels quite strange today - I can smell/taste more when I sniff if you know what I mean? But I don't know if it's because the flu is slowly going or my sense of smell is deepening or both? Either way I like it :)

That sounds horrid Jacci :( Praying

Also NTC sorry to be a pain (know I'm good at it) but wonder if there's some other prob besides the cigs that's causing the weight gain? I mean even if you just try like drinking 2 litres of water a day (get a water bottle cheap) and going for a wee walk (I like mornings but everyone is different) or something. I don't know. You could try googling sparkpeople and my fitness pal for tips.....just don't eat less than 1200 cals a day cos it's counter productive!!!!

The above are slightly different (the latter takes off exercise off your calorie total for day) but still...It's just a question of trial and error..they're cheaper than ww or something...

But I guess a diet club maybe a last resort or go and see your GP...

Despite my bad weekend (nightmare. still have the grumps about 4pm - so sorry guys) I'm eating a min of 1200 cals a day so okay. If I wasn't I wouldn't be dieting right now and I know for me I diet when I'm stressed. :( so not worried. Will pass. Just every day has something new and terrible happen. So stressful. Daren't even bake for my doc today in case I accidentally poison him now (never done before)..ate all the meringues I'd made him yesterday (cue sugar rush tee hee)...

    E

Sorry Erme but i think you have read my posts wrong - I am not saying I have put that weight on this time (that would be going some in 2 weeks :rotfl:) What I am doing is looking to avoid the 2 stone gain I had last time which I totally admit was down to me being "kind to myself" and troughing for Britain :D It took a while to get back to my normal 9stone and I am merely being conscious of the dangers of "eat what you like you deserve it" mentality for me

I love the gym and drink around 3 litres of water just at work and I would be quite shocked if any diet club allowed me in atm.:rotfl:

Thanks for your thoughts though :)

Jonny Debt :j:j:j catch you on day 3 aready great news and well done:T

Fundamental. Wow 18 weeks that is fantastic:T
Shadydaz. One year :o i cant wait to be there well done you:)

Well done to everyone as ever and I cant say thanks to you all enough I am confident that this journey would at best have been more difficult and at worst failed at Eddies first leap :D Bunch of starts thats what you are :T

Oh yes it most certainly does Jenny and well done you.
Just a point on smells/tastes I am now disgusted by the taste of my favourite nescafe which just tastes smoky and burnt:( More distressing is that my most favourite after dinner tipple Baileys now tastes vile:(

Oh well its a small price for a big prize I guess ;)

These show how far I have come in getting free. That's not to say I will become complacent as I have quit for 2 years before now and been drawn back in. But this time it really is different as I have a mindset that no longer wants or misses the cigs.

Great going Fundamental you've done amazingly well. :T

I know exactly that feeling you describe, I felt it quite early on in the process and knew it was different this time. It felt different to the times before that I had quit, despite the usual withdrawal difficulties this time I knew I was 'over it' and don't ever want to smoke again.

    Morning all :)
I had a real impulse to go to a gym last night! (I didn't - I was in bed and still recovering from flu, obviously now starting to really feel better :) ).
The shock of it is that I have NEVER been interested in going to the gym ever! I'm not complaining though :)
I'm enjoying a nice slice of 'best of both worlds' toast with banana on and no butter at the moment - it's lovely :)

  • Good morning all! I am going to make it my morning thing to come onto this thread and read everyone's posts, it really helps to keep me motivated. I love to see how well everyone has done - it is very inspirational.

Well - I am still smoke free (my partner has also given up with me) we went out for a jog last night on the seafront, it was lovely and something we are going to do 3 times a week now.

I have got a great free app on my iphone called NHS Smoke Free - it tracks how much money you have saved - tells you how long you have been smoke free and gives tips each day - I would recommend it!

Had a bad nights sleep last night so I am feeling tired today - I just kept on waking up - I really hope this will pass soon.

I have got a challenge this evening, we are going round to a friends for dinner, this will involve a few glasses of wine - usually we would smoke a fair bit when drinking so this is going to be a bit of a test! Luckily our friend doesn't smoke and we would normally be going outside to smoke. I am determined to remain smoke free, I will report back tomorrow.

Anyway - have a lovely, smoke free day everyone!
