The sense of loss, almost a bereavement of sorts when you give up tobacco is undestimated I think . . . it's like saying goodbye to a constant companion in your life.

That's how I felt anyway, 36 years of smoking, my life was geared round my ciggy breaks whether at home or work . . . to not have that takes time to adjust to Blue, so be gentle on yourself. . . you're on the way to liberation. :)

No worries, Blue Elephant, you're normal as we've all been just like you..everything arranged around smoking! Pathetic now but not easily viewed like that when we were under the claws of old Nic!!! No problems with the length of posts as it helps you get feelings out which has to be good; also we need to get to know you to be able to help a little more where possible. Always stay strong and focused and keep active and be thankful you took the bull by the horns!

Hi Sue hope you are well too.

Well I can report even less cravings again today in fact not actually sure if I had any Two colleagues at work have decided to give up too which I am so pleased about. One is so badly in debt and really struggles on a pretty low wage but still smokes.

Thank you all again I will never tire of saying that to everyone who has helped and I hope I can be some help to the new quitters Not good at thanking if I am honest but its not that I dont care its that I am a scatty bird who forgets so sorry and thanks to all

Marvellous news about your terrific progress and your 2 colleagues, NTC!!! :T I quite believe that you haven't preached at all, but the sight of someone gradually being released from evil grips is often all it takes to motivate others to want the very same. You're quite clearly a wonderful role model be proud of that and definitely of quitting!!! :D I'm not too bad at all thanks. :)

BTW, as far as I was aware you've already been helping others in so many ways, have a look at your posts and you'll see what I mean. I look forward to you helping even more. :)

Sue - I've just noticed your title bar - 13 years plus!! WOW!!! How fab Just pasted and copied this from the stop smoking benefits timetable for you: Your risk of smoking induced tooth loss has declined to that of a never-smoker (2006 study). And you're not too far from this, (15 years): Your risk of coronary heart disease is now that of a person who has never smoked. You like? Whoo-hoo - well done

Very many thanks indeed, Jenny, I wasn't aware of all of that gen as I tend to keep with the more recent quitters - great news though..and I thought I'd never be able to quit!!! :j

I am bringing up some gunky stuff this morning - don't know if my body is clearing flu germs out or stuff related to smoking? Either way my body seems to be having a little detox today

Jen, I'm pretty sure you'll find the gunky stuff is all coming up from your lungs which is GREAT news, long may it last til you're cleared of it.

    Sue

Same with you and your not quite preforming parts, NTC, :D all part and parcel of quitting and the metabolism getting back to a slower rate. It will in time sort itself out, meanwhile keep up the water and walk when you can.

    Sue x

All the very best, green, good news!

That's exactly what it is, geneva! I didn't have a clue why I felt as I did, but thinking of it further down the track that was the only way I could describe it.

Stay strong everyone, you all know this is possible so do please keep up the great work and keep enjoying this terrific journey to a far healthier and wealthier way of LIFE!

Yes you can chick - remember positive mental attitude. You are your own boss - those little white sticks do not rule your world!

Lots of people have a fear of failure - you need to tell yourself that it may be hard today - but it will be easier tomorrow. Don't let a nicotine fuddled brain fool you into thinking you wont make it - you be the one telling it you will..

    Stay strong

Many thanks for all those tips, you would not believe how helpful you've been. You're right it's a mental thing and I just need to overcome that hurdle.

I have a day off work today, so don't have the "normal" triggers so even though it's technically day 3 it hasn't been quite so bad. (I stayed in bed through the first-thing-in-the morning craving lol. We shall see what happens after I have lunch though. I will get through this.

    Thank you so much!

    Erme and Sue-UU

I think I am missing that "friend", you know the one who persuades you that breaking the rules is a good idea and runs off when you get caught? :P Will try to remember that it is a fair weather friend and I don't need it. Grieving seems like such an odd word, but it fits with the empty feeling you get when you think about how it will never be a part of your life again. Did you know I even book(ed) train tickets and made sure I'd have enough time for a cigarette at connecting stations? How very sad is that. It's also really depressing to think how much my non smoking friends have put up with from me, from sitting outside in not-great weather, to having to wait for me before entering anywhere - theatres/cinemas/restaurants/taxis... I have the incentive of being a better friend to others here too!

Sorry for the really long post - this is amazing as a distraction method! And thank you Kiwisaver for the timeline!

    xx

Post for as long as you like hun...even if you're having a derriere up day and you just want to rant....hugs...

Thanks Erme - i must admit that's probably the first time anyone has ever called me tactful - even in jest :rotfl:
That's the problem with being born in Yorkshire - have to say it how it is - don't do BS ;)

Hope everyone is having a fab smoke free weekend. I'm onto the last room - kitchen - major cleanup and sort out this weekend - but thankfully not much decorating to do & a couple of floor tiles to replace (don't think my tap dancing helped..lol - but have some spares in the shed) & the house is good to go up for sale - all i need is someone to buy it.
Keep ya fingers crossed someone falls in love with the view - like i did many moons ago - that's what sold me the house.

    Hugs to all

  • Thank you guys, you're an inspiration. Is it normal to feel horrendously depressed out of interest? I've spent most of today on the verge of tears, moody, no motivation to get off chair or even to make a cup of tea. I have "issues" anyway, so I know it won't be completely down to the Champix/not smoking, but still.

Still on the wagon so I guess thats something though

Firstly congratulations on staying free of cigs while this is all going on.

Champix has known side effects (like most drugs) and affects people differently.
Giving up smoking can make you feel all sorts of different things, it made me angry/depressed/exultant, depending on the time of day.
I'm not manic depressive btw, I did check :D

I would think it's a good idea to see your doctor on Monday and tell them what is going on, the funny thing is, that we don't always see exactly how we are at that time. It sometimes needs an outsider to have a look.

    Best wishes.

Grrrr, just did a great big long post, pressed submit and got the 'token expired' message so have to type again.

It was a reply to blue elephant. First of all, well done for not smoking today, especially as you're feeling depressed. It's normal to get the blues as your body is so used to all these stimulants that it's now not getting. That can leave you feeling lethargic and down.

However, in a small number of cases, Champix can cause serious depression. I was very lucky to have such an observant partner when I had suicidal thoughts after taking Zyban. It's probably completely normal how you're feeling and hopefully you'll be back 'up and at 'em' tomorrow but if you're not, would you book yourself in with your GP on Monday for a chat about how you're feeling just to put your mind at rest.

Keep posting on here every day so we know how you're getting on xxx
