Hi Guys,
Please don't put yourselves under too much presure to try and acheive too much at once!
I waited until past 6 months until I started running again. I will be starting gym/home free weights over the next few week now I have hit a year (hands permitting, I have developed joint problems).
Don't go full throttle at something new either. Ease yourself into gently.
Kind Regards,
Daz.
Thats a really lovely thing to say Daz and ultimately you are right. Sadly there is no way I can afford a whole new wardrobe a couple of times over whilst the weight piles onIm not exaggerating either last time I adopted the "worry about the weight some other time" mentality I had put on 2 stone and a number of clothes sizes before i took control. I cannot afford to do that nor do I want to be the fat non smoking person I was before so this time it may be painful but it will be worth it

I am even more pleased to tell you that I'm still not smoking and actually hardly think about it - when I do think about it I smile to myself
I'm on my 12th day now but it seems longer to be honest, it's already become a way of life for me
Good luck everyone and keep it up, it gets easier every hour and every day

Well done Jenny :j its a good feeling isnt it and you are right it gets easier every day:)Jonny_Debt wrote: »Hello all! What a great thread. I would just like to say that I am now smoke free. It is only day 2 at the moment and I have decided to go cold turkey but so far so good - apart from being a bit moody and not sleeping very well last night!
Keep up the good work everyone!
Hey Jonny Well done on 2 days :T:T:T thats the really tough bit over now - promise it does get easier29th Feb Quit Day :j0 -
Hey NTC, as someone who has gone through weight piling on I totally understand about the cost of keeping your wardrobe 'fitting'!
It is important though that we feel good about ourselves so when I was in that situation I used ebay and charity shops. It's not easy, I was devastated as I'd been the same size for years and had some really nice stuff.
The main thing is to realise that you're doing great and with what you save from not smoking use to treat yourself a bit, you deserve it!0 -
7 weeks for me!!
Getting quite a lot easier...now I just feel pity when I see a smoker (I try not to look too smug though!). Fingers crossed I might have cracked it this time...
Good luck everyone, some amazing achievements on here! Anyone who's reading this thread but hasn't quit yet - COME ON, YOU CAN DO IT!!!Aiming for that elusive 'debt free' by Christmas 2012

Hi all, havent been on for a while as I had the follow up appointment for the surgery on the tumour on my wrist and it was cancer..very rare one. Its low grade chondrosarcoma, had xray and all looks ok and the bone graft is doing well.Im having an MRI in Aug and then 6 monthly after that and my Consultant sounded very positive so I must be too.It does seem to have all been removed which is the main thing.
Take care all and keep on quitting.
x0 -
I'm sorry to hear that the tumour was cancerous Jacci. Good news that your consultant is possitive and that they seem to have removed it all!
Well done staying of the ciggies!0 -
That sounds horrid Jacci
Praying
Also NTC sorry to be a pain (know I'm good at it) but wonder if there's some other prob besides the cigs that's causing the weight gain? I mean even if you just try like drinking 2 litres of water a day (get a water bottle cheap) and going for a wee walk (I like mornings but everyone is different) or something. I don't know. You could try googling sparkpeople and my fitness pal for tips.....just don't eat less than 1200 cals a day cos it's counter productive!!!!
The above are slightly different (the latter takes off exercise off your calorie total for day) but still...It's just a question of trial and error..they're cheaper than ww or something...
But I guess a diet club maybe a last resort or go and see your GP...
Despite my bad weekend (nightmare. still have the grumps about 4pm - so sorry guys) I'm eating a min of 1200 cals a day so okay. If I wasn't I wouldn't be dieting right now and I know for me I diet when I'm stressed.so not worried. Will pass. Just every day has something new and terrible happen. So stressful. Daren't even bake for my doc today in case I accidentally poison him now (never done before)..ate all the meringues I'd made him yesterday (cue sugar rush tee hee)...

Thanks for all your support everyone - it really helps stay motivated and thanks to Sue for sending me all those tips! Well it is day 3 for me now - going well so far. I am still a bit moody but at least I slept a bit better last night. I am actually feeling very pleased with myself today!
Keep it up everyone!!0 -
Hi all
Sorry but not been around for a good while. Here are my recent stats:
Four months, one week, three days, 13 hours, 14 minutes and 19 seconds. 1973 cigarettes not smoked, saving £656.11. Life saved: 6 days, 20 hours, 25 minutes.
It's now getting to the stage where I forget that I was even a smoker. I went for a drink with friends on the weekend - one smokes like a chimney but I was never tempted - just a thought of 'oh yes, I used to smoke didn't I' quite strange really.
I also found a packet of cigarettes in an old coat with 6 still in there. Now on previous attempts I would have been overjoyed and definitely smoked at least one - if not all!! This time, I put them in a drawer to give to a friend when he next called round for a coffee. I had no inclination to smoke them at all.
These show how far I have come in getting free. That's not to say I will become complacent as I have quit for 2 years before now and been drawn back in. But this time it really is different as I have a mindset that no longer wants or misses the cigs.
I am really heartened by all the new/continuing quitters who continue to visit here - I wish you all well in your endeavours - you can do it!!
And thanks to you Sue for your ongoing efforts - you are a star!
Good luck all x
FDMI do not smoke. I last smoked on 03 November 2011. I will not give in to that awful addiction again.0 -
I have mentioned before about my personal weight gain beign 3st since quitting. This, in fact for me is a bonus as I was somewhat underweight to begin with, a measly 9st meant I had to hang on for dear life to random street scenery on a windy day for fear of being carried away to OZ!:o
At 12st I am much healthier and happier within myself.:D
My previous post is born out of previous expreiences when I have stopped smoking/changed diet/cut the caffiene and started exercising all at once.
Too much too soon for me and have failed several times to stick to any one of those lifestyle upgrades.
If an individual feels they have the strength and resolve to tackle any more than one change at once, I certainly am not going to discourage it! :T
Each to their own and you know where to come for a leg up when the grey clouds are looming!:money:
I have mentioned before about my reliance on coffee. Something I am finding much more difficult to stop than smoking beleive it or not! I am down to 5 ish cups a day ATM, from a staggering 15ish.
The Gym becons soon> Can't weight to turn this "flabfest" into a chiselled temple for my wife to enjoy!;)
Slowly but surely wins the race.:A
:TGood Luck all.:T
