Just had to say all still going well, also my wrist is healing well so out of plaster, in a splint, doing painful exercises but going to give work a go tomoz now Im 2 weeks post op.

keep going all, its only taken me to the age of 51 to realise that there are no benefits in smoking whatsoever, I have added an extra 1 day 7 hrs to my life, that is the best benefit in NOT smoking!! Wish Id realised this before!!

    Take care all!!
  • Many thanks :A to those who responded to my last post a couple of days ago. Feeling a bit better now, time is a great healer so they say. Still get the twinges now and again but as a heavy smoker, most of the day is spent smoking so lots of gaps to fill!

Will be re-reading my Easyway book as soon as I find a little time to myself. Had got an excercise book and dvd in preparation for overeating to compensate the lack of nicotine. Opened the book the other day  - think I may save the excercising for another week/month/year...

Trying to eat cereal outside of meal times as keep running out of chocolate. No weight gain yet. Found a Bachs Rescue Night drops in the cupboard that I won in a comp a couple of years ago. Haven't tried it yet, I have no trouble sleeping but thought it may be calming for daytime use.

Here are my stats, 359 cigs not smoked, nearly £90 saved, 1d 5h 55mins life saved. Clinic today, blew a 38 last time, was just a 2 today.

Find this thread such a comfort, support from real ex/non smokers who have actually been there rather than just quoting text from books. Also feel a bit mean for stressing out about my stuff when folks like spicyprawn are having a tough time in other ways. Am out for dinner with a non smoking friend tomoz who has had a really difficult time recently so a bit of mutual support will be in order.

Oldreekie - did google the oat thing and discovered it is a bit of an aphrodisiac! OH would definately approve but I may give it a miss for a bit.

Thanks again everyone, I look forward to hearing how you are all getting on x

Amazingly busy day today, doctors first this morning, blood pressure well down, breathing improved, I didn't need them to tell me that, I already knew it.
Blood tests away for cholesterol, hopefully it will be down, have to wait and see.
Doctor was relatively clued up on e-cigs, much to my surprise, although this one has only been out of medical school for 6 months I think (he's only been with the practice this long and he seems very young), but he said he'd not seen one like mine (only seen cig look alikes before), he's going to go away and find out more.
Atm, he seemed happy I am on them and not smoking.

He did seem surprised that since I had the first one, I haven't touched a real cig since, at first I'm not sure he believed me tbh, we are in deepest middle England and I don't think he has had many customers with e-cigs come in the door. But he seemed to believe me as time went on.

The rest of the day was brilliant, with me and my DD running around doing silly things, that no way would I been able to do while I smoked. Lots of activity.

Viva no smoking, that's all I can say :)

    V e r y...m a n y...c o n g r a t u l a t i o n s, choille!!!!!! :T:T:T:T You've done marvellously and I know how very proud of yourself you are. 2 years is a he*l of a time - excellent!!!!!

Sorry oldreekie, I tried to find the above congratulations piece the other day and couldn't, but you know so well that the above is every bit for you too!

    Sue x

It's so good to hear you're making progress, jacci, very well done in every way, take care back at work!

    Money maker
, it's wonderful to hear from you and know you're still doing so well. I'm delighted to know you stuck it out...really excellent news!!! :T Very often when we have a bad day the next so often seems a lot easier to bare, roll with the waves, you'll get through. :D

I know what you mean about Spicy, she's having a very rough time, but you're allowed to have your down times too - we've all had them, I promise you. It's never got through with it all being easy, after all, there would be no thrill in that!! I think that's why it's such an achievement at the end, because we all really put everything we have into it...and the daily rewards are fantastic, but the end of the road reward is like nothing else - though a bit like having a baby - a fair bit of pain (underestimating there a bit) but what a terrific prize!!!!! :j

Ok, if the DVD seems a bit daunting right now then do any exercise you can, so long as it's extra to what you've done then that will make you feel much better. You can always pop the DVD on and then do the easier bits...so much to gain.

Keep reading through the thread, if it motivates you then it's a pleasure for us all in having contributed.

Those stats are amazing!!!! :T:T Blowing a 2 after a 38 is absolutely wonderful...look out next for the 0!!!! I was so thrilled you'd been to the Cessation Nurse as it's always so motivating to have that vital one to one contact.

Money maker you truly are doing yourself PROUD, keep hard at it and do it all a day at a time, it's far easier. Congratulations to you and.....why not try oldreekie's advice - it'll boost those endorphins terrifically!!!! :kisses2:

A real pleasure to read your post, very well done!! :grinheart

Good to hear about your Dr visit and your BP, Lotus-eater, it's always good to hear when someone's health is picking up as a result of quitting fags. I'll save any proper congratulations for when you quit the e-cig - fair enough I think!

    Fair enough indeed!

Atm, I'm so happy my health has improved to such an extent, I can run around with my daughter, I'll worry about the nicotine habit later.
I've already stopped my caffeine habit, which was harder than I thought, several days of sweating and sleepness nights, but the hand to mouth habit and maybe the nicotine habit (I'm not sure about this, I'm still learning all the time) seem harder to give up.

But, as I would never have given up smoking as it is, I'm more than happy I have done the right thing. All that crap I was inhaling before has gone.

So I hope you understand when I say this. If you can possibly give up smoking without resorting to e-cigs, then you should, you should try every method and try and try again, until you have reached bottom.
Then and only then, should you try e-cigs.

We'd all like to see everyone off fags, god knows we would, but some people won't come off, no matter what and it's these people that will benefit from e-cigs. It's damage limitation for these people, myself included, all or nothing does not always work. 98% better for you than the tobacco cigarette is not to be sneezed at.
I hope this will bring us closer together in the fight to stop smoking, I have no desire to intrude on the wonderful work you do to stop people smoking, but I may be able to help those beyond your help, those who can't, no matter hard they try.

Glad you are feeling better. If there are any problems from this, it is better they are kept to pm's.

There's a chance we can move closer together so long as, on this thread, when people seek help with what's best to quit, no one jumps in with the offer of e-cigs straight away, because as you say yourself, it's far better if folk can stop the whole thing rather than leave the nicotine in their lives.

Also, one other thing I'd ask is that, all links apart from MSE ones are given only by PM. If you can commit to both of those then I'm happier, by band of warriors also I'm sure.

Today is two years smoke free for me.

If I can stop anyone can as I thought I was a hopeless case.

It's good to hear all your resolve everyone - keep it up.

I remember those early days and your determination to fight on.

    You have done so well.

So pleased to hear that you are feeling better. I does come and go - peaks and troughs!

Not sure why Avena Satvia is being marketed as an aphrodisiac when you consider that it is based on oats. A bowl of oats or a glass of warm oat milk is recomended for folk who have problems getting to sleep! :rotfl:

Mind you, the "exercise" would be better than that book you have put away for.;)

  • Champix Day 13

    Afternoon All :)

Thanks for all your comments to my previous posts, I appreciate it :)

It has been a bit of an easier day today, busy but easier. In fact being busy seems to have been the key to solving the restlessness, I have not stopped running around all day and then I needed to setup a new home office this afternoon which I have only just finished. It has been a nice day really and I have hardly smoked anything all afternoon which for me is very strange! I am sat here, just had a fag that tasted awful, looking out of the window at glorious sunshine, at this moment in time, today life is quite good :)

Tired now I have sat down but feel a little more relaxed than I have for the last few days. No side affects worth mentioning onwards and upwards :)

    Good luck quitters!

Strange about oats, oldreekie, they can be soothing, are a slow-release food, yet can also 'heat up' a horse and......men sew their wild ones! Now we hear they're aphrodisiacs too - now wonder they're sewn my fellars! :D

Ahhh, you're turning the corner now, UnderPressure which is great news. The fags tasting horrible is very natural indeed. Try to continue keeping busy just as you have today, it's always best for anyone at the start of quitting.

Another day closer for you and so many fresh and healthy ones to look ahead to as you journey on.

    Very well done.
