Lotus-eater wrote: »Tbh, I'm on another forum anyway for help with e-cigs, so I get all the help I need.
When someone says e-cig, or electronic cigarette, then that's what they mean, surely?
If they say dummy cig, then that's what they mean.
I have kept very quiet about this subject for the last 12 months, purposely not commenting/posting hardly at all, for fear of upsetting anyone, but just want to answer the above.........
When an e-cig was mentioned, I had an image in my head of a 'normal' looking cigarette. I googled e-cig on images and up came lots of pictures like this:
Now.......the e-cig that erme uses - or 1 she used to use, but basically same sort of thing - looks like this: (I am NOT having a go at erme - just using this to answer the above...........)
This is a link that erme herself posted, so I am not posting anything I shouldn't!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aELhCq4juNg
This is a quote from just one of her posts..........
Basically I have an e-juice calculator (you can get them for pc or iphone/android) and I work out what I need of nicotine (5%), flavours and glycerine/vodka mix (cos I don't like too much glycerine so I mix it 75:25 with the vodka and it has to be vodka or deionised water...No baileys hun)..
Now if I were to vape pure 5% that would be 52mg/ml - way too much so I dilute it down...
Put the nic in a wee chemist measuring cup or just 5ml oral syringe (from chemist)...put in 50ml bottle (childproof) from chemist...
Then add flavouring (normally 1-2ml approx from an e-cig site. Normal food flavourings are too oily as a general rule) and the glycerine/vodka mix (per ml stated on e-cig calculator) then put top on on my 50ml and mix...
When I want to top up my daily bottle I just draw it out of the 50ml bottle with the oral syringe. I think I use one 5ml and one 1ml oral syringe and a 20ml medicine cup...
Now you have to be careful (really careful) not to OD on the 5% stuff so like wear plastic gloves and an apron and don't do it whilst cooking the dinner....If it gets on your skin that could be REALLY dangerous..
Now, this just MY opinion..........the many many posts such as the above are in no way about what I thought an e-cig was after googling.
To be perfectly honest just reading about all the problems with leaking carts, 'O' rings, batteries from china that don't last, glycerine, flavouring, vodka  etc to dilute nicotine with, working out how many %/mls to vape etc etc - not to mention the cost! - puts my stress levels beyond tolerable.
I also feel very uncomfortable at the mixing of things mentioned above.
As I said.......MY opinion and that doesn't make it right, I know.

Hello all
I've been smoking and not smoking, and then smoking and not smoking again for the past 3 years.
I'm glad to hear I'm not alone, DaisyCat, I could have written those exact words! How are you doing now?
I quit on Friday 20th Jan, so three days in and not feeling to bad.
I'm a frequent quitter, and usually manage a week before my whole perspective on cigs change from 'ugh they're horrible, I'm doing the right thing by quitting' to 'ahhh, lovely cigarettes, one won't hurt'.
This time however, I'm determined to do it. I'm aware of my danger time (anywhere from now, day 3, to a month I reckon, and I'm ready to pounce on them!)
Good luck everyone! xAiming for that elusive 'debt free' by Christmas 2012

Thank you so very much for your input, DD, I couldn't be more grateful that at least someone is of the same mind as me as I'd even started to feel guilty about NOT understanding the type L eater and Erme are referring to.
Until Erme came here - and even when she first did - I'd always thought that an e-cig was just as DD had thought, something that looked like a normal cigarette, but was perhaps plastic or similar..as portrayed on TV that acted as a fairly harmless 'dummy' type of fag to tide people over until they could do away with them.
On another forum I'd read about the fact that these could instead entice folk back into smoking as they are far too much like the real thing, and I believe I'd agree with that as in a sense one is still smoking a fag only in a different way - it doesn't remove 'fags' from the person's life!
After Erme joined us it soon became obvious that she was talking about something way over my head which I knew nothing about - nor wanted to know as it all sounded way too complex for me. I agree with DD in that the leaking cartridges (and ODing on nicotine as Erme herself has said!!) and all other things Erme's written about sound almost terrifying and I want nothing to do with these - as I've very often said as much to Erme.
BTW Lotus-eater, I was only suggesting that perhaps Erme might be able to come to the thread to help you to help others, not help you personally as, as I understand it you've quit anyway.
Thanks so much for collecting all the above info from the thread, DD, the photos supplied by Erme too. Like DD, Erme, I'm not having a go either, just trying to explain where I am with all this.
Sue
Very wise thinking indeed, jacci!
Many thanks for your wise words to Flis, Denis, you're so right!
Keep up the great frame of mind, Amy! You're aware of your weak times, so please do all you can to prevent your old happenings from occurring. Think of ALL the reasons why you don't want to smoke anymore, then think of all the BAD things about smoking - you DON'T want them so, taken a day at a time and the Quitters Pledge will see you throughQuitters Pledge
"I'm NOT going to smoke any cigarettes today, but if I wish, I may smoke tomorrow" Then repeat the pledge every day until it's lodged in your brain and mind.

BOTH of the things you have described are e-cigarettes. People normally start off with the cig look a likes you get from loads of places, then can often move up to the next stage.
The one pictured from someone else, is like 3 or 4 stages after that, if you keep it up.
I deliberately didn't say anything confusing or over the head of anyone in my post.
Anyway, I didn't come here for an argument, I wanted to help. But there seems to be a bit of an attitude for some reason. So I'll leave you alone.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Morning peeps
I was directed your way as ..........
I HAD MY LAST CIG LAST NIGHT :j:j
Read the book and really just haven't fancied one since but I know its only 9.10
Hopefully I won't climb the walls too often :rotfl::rotfl:

A very warm welcome to the thread, harrineedshelp and paidinchickens (your name always makes me giggle
)! Keep right on reading the AC book PIC as so many folk have great success with it. I'll be sending you and harri a PM, please read through as there are some handy tips in it....and if you want to climb the walls at all then come on here and write down exactly how you feel as 'letting it all out' in writing really does do us all good.
All the best,
Sue x
You're doing marvellously, harrineedshelp! 7 days without one is brilliant news!!!! :T I sincerely hope you can strive ahead and give it up and take care of your health. Imagine what you can do with THAT sort of money too!!! Suck the lozenges only when needed, that way you'll free yourself a lot quicker...having said that, far better to suck than go back to the old days!
All the best for smoke-free living!

Very many thanks indeed, Lotus-eater, I'm so very pleased that you now see why, to the uninitiated, this is something hugely out of our area - and somewhere we do not wish to go or get interested in. Imagine trying to give folks information...let alone advice on THAT!!!!! :eek:I so appreciate you getting back to us.
Many thanks indeed,

OK folks, lets push straight on for another fag-free day, feeling so much healthier and cleaner inside and out and smelling sweet - not like a walking ashtray! You CAN all do it!!!

There's a couple of decent UK forums that can advise on e-cigs and some worldwide ones. The information can be a very overwhelming when you first start looking at them. Which is why I thought I'd offer to help and give my experiences.
What you need to understand, is that you don't need to give advice or information on anything but the very basics of e-cigs here. I can write out a very basic thing....... if everyone wants it.
I'm not going to batter my views down everyone's throats, just the same, I don't expect to shouted at, for pointing out when someone is saying something that is incorrect.
As I said before, they're certainly not right for everyone, but to me and alot of other people who had more or less given up, giving up, they are worth a try.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Ok Erme, apology accepted, thank you.
I can't agree with the part that I've highlighted as it's unfair to the Cessation Nurses and to the person trying to quit. Too many NRT's at a time can't be helpful to anyone as they wouldn't know which was the most beneficial.
I'm not asking you to come off the thread, Erme, though until you came here no one else had asked about your type of fags, only what we thought about the dummy e-cigs (the same name doesn't help) but I truly think IF anyone asks about them you ought to ask folk exactly which e-cig it is that they're referring to before going into anything about yours - is that ok with you?
I know what you mean about the links, but no matter what, we're not allowed to use them. Whether it's considered that the diet sites are more of a helpful aid or not, and so that's why they're allowed, I don't know. Where's the *confused* smilie when he's needed?!
Sue x
This is where I hugely disagree. I was on the spray and the e-cig for a while and I knew how much nic I was getting out of each ...It's just simple maths.Lotus-eater wrote: »Btw, there is already a thread about e-cigs...
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1243625
I only found out about them by accident, after reading about them on here, on a totally non related thread. They're still not mainstream and alot of people don't understand them, or fear them because there is alot of confusing information out there.
Lotus is very wise. I had a huge barney with the mods over it over the weekend. I will keep posting the link to this thread and that's it...
I've had a stomach bug over the past day or so (just one of those things) but praise God my e-cig part came yesterday :j from the states....
Yeah my e-cig looks like what DD posted only without the screen as I no longer have a variable voltage. I'm quite happy with a cheap one with a Low resistance carto on it....
So yeah well chuffed that my part came yesterday. Not so chuffed about the sore thumb from Friday but hey ho...horses for courses.....
But not happy with some folks attitude on here so will just pop in from time to time and go on the e-cigarette thread otherwise
