hey all, Day 4 for me here. Cold is still yuk, but my cravings haven't been as bad so far today. Got a friend coming for dinner tonight with her kids and she doesn't smoke, so that will help me keep my mind off things for a while!!! Only used inhalator twice so far today, not bad at all.Oh and my quit kit turned up yesterday from the NHS. I'm loving the wall chart with the stickers, I know I'm sad, but I am getting so excited about putting the stickers on it each day!!
Anyway hope you're all doing well,

Wow, the e-cig is a real polariser isn't it? It really is as easy or as tricky as you want to make it - lots of people turn it into a real gadgety project which is why it seems so complicated but it's not really.
You know when you know someone that should give up but either doesn't want to as they enjoy smoking so much or their health/finances are suffering because of smoking. I think the e-cig is for this person. Using the e-cig is as close a feeling to smoking (actually nicer) as you can get so it is not difficult at all to switch from smoking, it is a straightforward and easy replacement - this might suit some people who struggle with willpower and NRT products just not 'feeling' like smoking. Better this than going back to cigarettes.
It's nothing like a fag, nothing is on fire, there is no tar or other added harmful ingredients. A mixture of Propylene Glycol, nicotine & flavourings is warmed and inhaled through a personal vaporiser (some of which are actually made to look like cigarettes). There was a lengthy study done in 1947 to show that the inhalation of saturated Propylene Glycol does not damage the lungs like smoking is proven to do. Nicotine is inhaled or absorbed with NRT products so although we know this is not ideal, again it's preferable to the proven damage to health that smoking does.
For some reason, people seem to find the e-cig distasteful because it 'looks' like smoking and people using them love them as there's no cravings and feeling of missing anything. Obviously, giving up smoking and nicotine completely is the ultimate goal. However, we all know people who don't want to or don't feel they can give up yet don't want to die from smoking. I really feel that this is who the e-cig is for and I would never criticise someone who is just trying not to die in the best way they can deal with.
The e-cig is nothing to be scared of or threatened by - we know that if you're quitting cold turkey or using NRT then the chances are that you are stronger in will than us and that's brilliant. We're doing what we can though and that's just avoiding death and serious illness, until we can get to where you are one day.11th Heaven prizes Number 103

Thanks Sue for the warm welcome.
Doing ok so far today. Had a little wobble after having tooth taken out as I usually run outside after treatment of any kind :rotfl:
Going to have a walk over to the library shortly to get some good diet books at the ready
In the AC book it does say about pangs being like hunger pangs and that's what makes you over eat so I am keeping an eye on what I eat.
I had an e cig once. the one that had a talc like vaper and the end lit up. I had it for work and took it with me to the airport when I went on my hols. As I am terrified of flying I sucked that hard it never worked again :rotfl::rotfl: it was quite good but I found it more of an alternative for when you can't smoke rather than a quitting aid.

It's just simple maths.
Lotus is very wise. I had a huge barney with the mods over it over the weekend. I will keep posting the link to this thread and that's it...
Yeah my e-cig looks like what DD posted only without the screen as I no longer have a variable voltage. I'm quite happy with a cheap one with a Low resistance carto on it....
But not happy with some folks attitude on here so will just pop in from time to time and go on the e-cigarette thread otherwise
Erme, you say one minute you're unsubscribing, then come back here to cause trouble. Please, just leave us alone to advise those that seek the 'normal' way of quitting.
Any posted links on here will obviously be sussed out so please - again I ask you NOT to cause trouble on here when folk are going through troublesome enough times with quitting as it is.
We need to agree to disagree, so lets do so.
You, Lotus eater and green1970 can all stick to the e-cigs as you know them, I have enough to do without learning a whole new way of quitting. Anyone who comes here seeking help from your type of e-cigs will be sent to the MSE link Locus eater has given.
Thank you.

Lotus-eater, you possibly aren't aware of what normally goes on with this thread, but ever since Erme's been here she has tried to get me to understand the ways of her e-cigs, but I've no desire to and have had no time to. I was just reaffirming that earlier.
Please, LE, let's drop this whole topic and let me get on with doing the best I can for people here and you all stick to what you know and understand best.

Hi Flis and very well done on another great day!!! :T That's great news about the NHS quit kit and there's nothing sad at all about getting pleasure from what you see on the wall chart. If it works for YOU, Flis then that's all that counts! I was so thrilled to hear about your use of the inhalator, you're doing fantastically!!!Have a really lovely evening!

Good to hear you found the support helpful, harrineedshelp, it's here for the majority of the time, so use it. Even if there's no one here, it still helps to write down your feelings; we used to have one person who wrote all her feelings in posts and texts - but never sent them - but at least it freed the feelings from her! She's a long time quitter now and so could you be - one day at a time.

Thanks so much for your feedback, PIC., it's interesting to hear your thoughts. All the best with this evening, losing some weight and tomorrow when a new day dawns.

So if anyone asks any questions, you can send them over to the other thread. And if I feel like posting here I will, if you don't like what I post, you may of course refer it to a moderator.
Of course if you all are openly hostile, then I won't want to post here, I'm didn't come here to upset or start any sort of war, I'm a bit bemused tbh, I haven't read the whole thread, I do have another life
I just want you to understand one thing. I don't want to force anyone to try, or to learn about anything, if you don't like to read informative posts about what stopped me smoking, or how I went through the process of trying to stop, or if you feel I am rude, then by all means put me on ignore, then you don't have to read them.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Day 5 and life is good!!!
Happy Tuesday all!!0 -
Hi everyone,
Hope you've had a good smoke-free day!
The sleep patters affect so many of us, but as with all other quitting symptom - they do pass before long!! Normally I wouldn't recommend Night Nurse, but as you're unable to get the Kalms and starting a new job tomorrow I can see why you're trying it. Get some Kamls as soon as you can, and don't forget a relaxing bath/shower, milky drink and some light reading before you first got to sleep - then again when you wake so your eyes soon get tired again then let yourself drift off again.
Thnx Sue.The Night Nurse didn't really help so went on a Kalms mission after work yesterday. Combined with your relaxation pointers, worked like a treat! Felt quite energised today and managed to do my newbie jogging route with no stops this evening, so my stamina's up too :j
Everyone seems to be doing fab :T so keep up the brilliant work!
