The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

Morning all,
Well I smoked my last fag last night. I feel ok this morning so far, got my patch on and had a go on the inhalator (mostly to see what it was like tho!!). It did burn the back of my throat a bit!! Am going to look into getting an e-cig. One of my friends has them and loves it. It doesn't have nicotine does it? So I thought it might be good for when I want to give up the inhalator.
As I said I feel fine so far, but am going to keep myself busy today to keep my mind off it.
Oh and thanks for the link to the quit app thing. So far today I've saved £1.53!!! Scary to think that I'd of spent that much on fags already and it's not even 10am!! That's a realy motivator to keep checking!
Wishing you all a smoke free weekend!

Good morning Flis and welcome to this beautiful smoke-free world! :grinheart Your journey's begun and I hope it will be one with great results.
Re the e-cigs, yes, they do have nicotine in, if I were you I'd have a word with your Cessation Nurse when you see her next, she'll give you the best advice. The only thing I would say is, beware they don't entice you back to the real thing!
For now, keep busy and counting the cash you're not spending - a great incentive along with the good health you'll start to regain!
All the very best, Flis.

Sue get your facts right......you can make the e-cig no nic (just add VG/PG to and de-ionised water/vodka with flavouring and no nic to the cartridge/cartomiser) but you have to do a homemade jobbie (really these ingredients aren't harmful - should have no probs)...or some vendors sell no nic e-juice (can't recall whom though...Suggest you PM me for the links for the info sites to find out)...
But really you'll still get the vapour which looks a bit like smoke and if you find the inhalator too much of a throat hit then sure you will do with the e-cig (not least if using heavy PG - propylene glycol as opposed to VG - vegetable glycerine you can get from the chemist for 89p or there abouts)....
So maybe just stick with an empty inhalator at that point for something to suck on or even ice poles or lollipops...
It's up to you...

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. There seems to be loads of new names joining so hello to you all and well done for getting this far!
In about 5 hours time I shall be able to claim my TWO WEEK NON SMOKING VICTORY!!!
I'm pretty chuffed with that, especially as for the first week DH kept shoving a packet of fags under my nose, saying 'You sure you don't want one?'. When I got to the end of the first week, he said 'You really are giving up aren't you?' and now, another week on, he's giving up too!
For me, the biggest thing that spurs me on is the awful smell on people who smoke. It's absolutely vile. How could I have ever thought I didn't smell like that?
Have a great weekend everyone!I myself am made entirely of flaws, stitched together with good intentions...0 -
Erme, in future please don't be so rude about getting my facts right! I've helped you a fair bit over the past few months and don't expect that sort of treatment. There are plenty of more polite ways to get your point across than by being darn right rude!
When someone fairly knew talks of using an e-cig I believe they're talking about the dummy fags. I checked out some this morning and that was what the ones I viewed said - how much fairer can I be??!
After Flis had been to her Cessation Nurse only yesterday and been given patches and an inhalator I would hardly expect her to come here today asking about your type of E-cigs - so why would you?!
In all honesty, Erme, there should either be a separate thread for the type of things you smoke or you should be going to other forums (as you do) as when people appear to ask about the 'dummy' type ecig fags I'm not comfortable with you always trying to recommend your fags, which I know nothing about, nor do I wish to as it's far too complex which is why there are separate forums..
Flis, if you're interested in what Erme's talking about then please seek the advice of your Cessation Nurse before laying out cash, you seem not to have, for something very complex.

Well, Little bit dizzy, you've not got too much longefore that 2 weeks is up and I, for one, will be absolutely thrilled for you!!!!!
I can't believe that your DH has gone from trying to entice you to having a fag after the first week - to now joining you in your quest for a smoke-free life! That's excellent news and I'm delighted for you both! Has he just stopped or been free before today? Whatever it is, please wish him well as I really do hope he succeeds to!
I'm counting down with you, dizzy.

You see this is where the line between being helpful (posting links to helpful e-cig forums) and trying to describe it blurs. I can't post links to helpful info sites because the powers that be have said whilst it's okay to post the likes of diet sites, it's not okay to post e-cig links (even though they are not commercial).
I apologise for being so rude to you Sue. Never meant to cause the distress I obviously have. Sorry. What else can I say? I'm merely trying to advise on e-cigs. I would personally call a dummy cig a dummy cig - if it doesn't have a battery in it it's not an e-cig (and yes you can get them. They are about £2)...
However I would not advise that anyone wanting to try the e-cig consult the smoking cessation nurse as like they are paid to promote almost anything but tobacco and e-cigs. They are anti e-cigs due to the pharmaceutical industry. Though e-cigs do help.
It depends what you need. Different strokes....IYSWIM. (I can't remember the rest of that sorry)
So if this is cold turkey and like pharmaceutical methods only then I'll come off this thread...
If not then I'll stay on it...some clarification would be appreciated..

Ok Erme, apology accepted, thank you.
I can't agree with the part that I've highlighted as it's unfair to the Cessation Nurses and to the person trying to quit. Too many NRT's at a time can't be helpful to anyone as they wouldn't know which was the most beneficial.
I'm not asking you to come off the thread, Erme, though until you came here no one else had asked about your type of fags, only what we thought about the dummy e-cigs (the same name doesn't help) but I truly think IF anyone asks about them you ought to ask folk exactly which e-cig it is that they're referring to before going into anything about yours - is that ok with you?
I know what you mean about the links, but no matter what, we're not allowed to use them. Whether it's considered that the diet sites are more of a helpful aid or not, and so that's why they're allowed, I don't know. Where's the *confused* smilie when he's needed?!

This shall be my last post on this thread as I am now unsubscribing...
It's just too much distress. Blame the mods.
And the pharmaceutical companies...
