I feel like I need to become part of this thread - as I won't want to let people down! My family/friends are used to me smoking, and various quit attempts, and probably a bit bored tbh and expect me to start again.....
I agree you should become a part of the thread- as much or as little as you like. If your family have got used to quit attempts then it is likely they are not going to give you the support you need. Here you can receive that support in a non-judgemental way as we have been through what you are experiencing.
Also, you should take comfort from your 'various quit attempts' as they show that you are absolutely determined to get free; so although previous tries have not met with success, that does not mean that this time will be the same- you sound like you are determined so you can use that in a positive way.
Good luck
FDMI do not smoke. I last smoked on 03 November 2011. I will not give in to that awful addiction again.0 -
:rotfl: Had no idea...tee hee - how ya doing? Still going strong?
Yup and ever grateful i am.. resorted to a pull on the ecig this morning thou, nothing quite like not setting your alarm and waking up 10 mins before your shift starts to stress you out. Especially when it takes nearly 90 mins to get there lol.. but all is good, still feel strong, theres no way ill go back..

I think you're right, tintingirl as we all understand what it's like to have been a smoker for a fair while and to then stop, whereas many family members - if not all - have possibly never smoked so they can't begin to know what it's like. There's at least one other member here who's gone through the telling the family many times and the family not really believing them, but just like you, that person also is getting quietly on with it now without telling anyone!
You're doing this for you though and mainly it's you that you have to concern yourself with! Yes, it will be a splendid day when you can tell them you've freed yourself of the nicotine chains that surrounded you, for now move forward in a determined and proud way and do try hard to find a hobby/interest to help you through as it really does help when your mind's immersed into something of great interest. How about a new language? Day 3 to go through now, tintingirl and what a tremendous thought!!!

Well Farzackerly, it looks as though your plan is slowly succeeding, well done you! Strange how soon come to detest the awful stench of smoke that we never took any notice of when we puffed away ourselves, totally disgusting!
All the best,
Sue x
Good to hear you defiant news, booboo! Keep going forward!

Another great day is under way in the no smoking world, folks and well done ALL of you!! Keep battling and never give in to thoughts of "just one puff/cig won't hurt me" as it will and you'll hate yourself!!! You're stronger than that - you're YOU who doesn't do that anymore! :j

That SilkQuit program keeps in front of me all the time - allowing for partial consumption, I reckon I've not smoked about 800 fags, saved about 70quid, since the start of the year.
Hmm... just this week I was able to splash out on a new tool using the money I'd not spent on baccy.0 -
Day one on the ecig and all is going very very well!!

Getting right down to 12 a day from 50 is amazing in itself, Farzackerly!!! I carried on til I got right down to 2 and did it relatively easy from there on with CT (but then so I should have done!). The decision now is all yours, just be sure to go with what you consider to be the right one! Not easy I know, but trust yourself.
Well done with the tool, isn't it just great when you have something to actually show for your money rather than trying to chase after it up in the sky (smoke) or reach down in your lungs after the tar etc! What a thought! :undecided All the best with whatever you choose.

Brilliant news, jacci45, it beats fags (the real thing) hands down! Keep hard at it and remember all the reasons you're doing it for. It IS doable and CAN be done, and so many of us are able to tell you exactly that!!!

Slowly getting there and my method seems to be working for me. It's gratifying when the proof of it comes in unexpected ways - on Wednesday I stepped out to the car, opened the door and was nearly overwhelmed by the stale smoky stink that hit me - Gawds, it smelt like old men's farts. It was disgusting. My taste is definitely improving - I can actually taste some of the herbs and spices in my food without having to ladle them in.
You know you do what you think best....Cos you are doing just brilliant...though I'd say maybe get down to 6 then 3 then 0.... Just my two pennyworth being oh so cautious...Maybe you can do that in the next fortnight/month? I don't know....You are doing so well and I'm so proud of you.Yup and ever grateful i am.. resorted to a pull on the ecig this morning thou, nothing quite like not setting your alarm and waking up 10 mins before your shift starts to stress you out. How are you doing?
Fine apart from trying to make some tanks this lunch time (for the e-cig) not using the right equipment and like badly cutting my thumb in the process...took like ages to get it to stop bleeding and still really hurts (it's right at the tip on the underside)Day one on the ecig and all is going very very well!!
Happy Friday all!!
Jacci did you see the e-cig forum links before they were so discourteously removed by the mods (ppl on the e-cig forums are going ape over it. I mean doesn't MSE want us to save money? or is it their paid advertising way or the highway?) You know links to free diet sites etc are allowed so why not these? Is MSE political? Looks like it ...
I personally am not surprised - having had my run in with the mods over cyber bullying before...But still. Disappointing..... Rant over
If you haven't got the links for the UK forums that are really friendly and nice and full of useful info and lovely peeps then pm me. I don't think the mods can stop that.....
E-cigs rock!!!

A newbie hello to all
,
I've been lurking for the past few weeks and decided to pop up and say hi. It's my fifth day now since quitting (using the patches) and going well so far -thanks to this thread as it's been so inspirational -although strangely, was synched to this time last year and following the peeps from then to the day...
I've tried quitting a few times in the last few years but only for a short period and obviously to no success. My gf also smokes and each time one tried to quit the other wasn't quite ready so it was always tempting to light up again after a brief period of stopping. Gf has also decided to quit a few days ago and using the inhalator and gums so there's no excuse this time around!
I'm determined to rid of this awful addiction once and for all this time around. No major withdrawal setbacks or pangs (yet), have been drinking water + fruit juice regularly and exercising daily since quitting on monday.
Anyhow, hope you all have a smoke free w/end!

Hi Sparticus* and a warm welcome aboard! I'm so pleased to see you've been taking a lot of tips in whilst lurking lately, well done. You've both made an excellent start with doing a lot of the good things that will help you through. It's brilliant that you've both got it all timed together this time and with luck you can help and support each other throughout.
Very best wishes to you both and please chat to us whenever you wish. Look out for a PM that I'll send in a moment.
