Gone cold turkey. Feeling quite anxious and angry due to lack of nicotine. But I seem to be coping well so far.
Any tips for going cold turkey?
Hi,
Well done on the decision to stop smoking - it will be the best decision you've made!
Here are some links for you to help.
The blood sugar one is very very important for you to read - it will be most helpful in the first few days.

is a site I've used a lot............scary, but does the job. Lots of stories on left hand side
And in the middle some links.............where I took the ones below from

PS NEWBIES:
Accept that you have given up nothing and taken up living.
By quitting you are not making any great sacrifice.
Any duration of time without nicotine is a gift......not a sacrifice.
Once your mind set switches from 'quitting' to 'having quit' the challenge lightens.
There is a difference between being in the process of quitting and having quit.
1year & 5 months ago I would never have thought it possible to go this long without.....I was worried about getting through the first morning.
Today it honestly takes no effort at all. Yes, sometimes for a millisecond I think I might fancy 1 and that's a mental thing, NOT physical and I don't remember the last anything I would call a bad crave.
There is light at the end of the tunnel and it is different for everyone...........but the constant in this equation is that it is possible to live your life nicotine free.
All you have to do is decide you want to..................Nicotine Free since 01.08.2010 :j:j:j

Some of you have mentioned being scared of actually quitting..........I posted this last year.
I thought it may be of some help............I have now stopped smoking for 1 year 5 months 2 days without any problems.
Go for it...............try it for a day............and another.
It's the best thing you can do for yourself (and your loved ones)
If I decide to stay a non-smoker then there is a chance I MAY:
experience a craving which will last seconds........minutes at the most and cravings are NOT guaranteed!
That is the ONLY negative.
it is guaranteed:
i will feel so very very proud of myself
have less chance of any of the things below happening
If I decide to become a smoker again then there is a very high chance that it will: (in no particular order )
affect my sinuses (and the suffering is torture)
make me have a hacking cough
feel the cold more because of bad circulation
have a very negative effect on my teeth/gums and lead to loss of teeth
affect my skin
affect my lungs/breathing
increase my chances of cancer
increase my chances of suffering a stroke
increase my chances of suffering a heart attack
increase my chances of thrombosis
increase my chances of gangerine/amputation
force me to come off of my HRT patches
it is guaranteed it will:
cost me between £60 & £70 a month
make me and my clothes smell horrible
make me FREEZING when I have to stand outside to smoke
make me anxious having to worry about when and where I can smoke (was a secret smoker)
make me anxious having to think whether I've got enough/am running out
make me feel very disappointed with myself
Hope that makes sense................X

Thanks DD for all of your posts yesterday, have been very encouraging for me this morning - my mind hasn't quite made the switch yet and its still kicking and screaming and I am yet to hit the euphoric place of "of wow! That wasn't as bad as I thought! Why didn't I do this ages ago!!!" I'll get there in a few days, weeks & months but right now its tough & on my mind continually. But your posts have given me encouragement thank you, I will read them in my lunch break and after work.
So I'm making my pledge this morning that today I won't smoke, I may if I want to tomorrow but today I won't! Hope you're all with me? And may the force be with us! xDF as at 30/12/16

Thanks for the links, will have a read later.
Now on day 2 cold turkey. Feeling very on edge and moody.
Trying very hard to distract myself. I know it will be easier once I get past day 3. That's when I would normally cave in.
I don't even fancy one.. think its the lack of nicotine making me feel so bad.
Well done to all those who have quit and good luck to those who are planning it.0 -
Hello everyone! I was on here a few months bacck but unfortunately gave in to the evil weed again. I have lost count of the numberr of times I have quit only to start up again, I must have the lowest will power in the world.....
But!!! I am back! Last cigarette was as the clock struck midnight NYE/NYD so currently about...58 hours smokefree. Am on the inhaler thingy again, does help a lot. Although tbh, not using it that much. Not going to get cocky though, i remember how this quitting lark goes and cockiness won't get me anywhere lol. So, if you'll have me again, I am back!Sept GC - £13.19/£150

Good luck to everyone who has either started or is contemplating starting on the road to a new life away from nicotine slavery! If I can do it, you can too. Just keep reafirming your choice to stay free to yourself.
Determination is the key.
Good Luck.

Hi determined, I feel sure Tricia & Kiwi won't have fallen off of the wagon, just didn't bother too much longer in coming back. Well done you in getting over hiccup times. You CAN do this determined and YOU know it. Re the fall, I had an op for the shoulder in October and it's coming on very well, it's just my R hand that won't get better so I use the "speech to text" device which is marvellous! Never mind about your sig, though until July was so much to be proud of!
Oh dear Erme! You're a case for sure. BTW I take Rabraprazole and the things is with whatever we take that ends with ....prazole we have to take it constantly! I have a health problem which puts me right off food when it strikes, but I have to take them with a little food about 10 mins after regardless or suffer for days!!! If you've been prescribed them then PLEASE, Erme take them and bin the ruddy cider!!!!!! Food's vital to us all, but especially to you and I and all the thousands that take ......prazole of any kind. Forget the diet for now and up the exercise!!!!
Hi there, RainbowDreamer and very well done so far!!! We can all do this, we just have to stick to it and use all the willpower we can muster. Get plenty of exercise! That's vital, so is water and fruit. Keep active with your hands and mind and do look at the Quitters Pledge over the page I think. When you're having bad times, come on here and type it all down, it truly does help!
Hiya DD and congratulations on I year, 5 months AND 2 days!!!!! :T:T:T:T Great to see you again!
Hiya Ali and welcome back!!!! You did brilliantly before and CAN do so again!! Get the crochet/knitting out and get going with that. We have anyone back anytime, no provisos whatever, why should there be! You can do it Ali and I reckon you WILL, just as determined will!!!
Good to see you too, Daz, stay handy with your helpful pieces, yes?! Good!!!
Come on people, this is so doable!!!

Thanks Sue...Hugs...
The thing is I was on the omeprazole due to too much coffee and cigs...the doc thought I was taking 2 a day but I've been managing just peachy on one a day for months - so he took me off them just before the holidays...
Methinks I will be phoning on Thursday (will be mobbed tomorrow) to get it sorted...
Still a little nauseous but it's pants outside so am having a self imposed (and much needed) PJ dayas per dear M's advice on my thread
. Who needs recovery professionals when I have you lovely peeps? I've so far had 2 2 hour naps and feel fab
...I had the second cos I felt rotten after lunch (proper lunch) so now to menu plan (kind of important) and then see if I can brave the weather to go out mini grocery shopping but okay's if not...it can wait till the morning...If not bake for a nurse...
PS. Crochet and knitting is so fun....I made a tank top for myself just before xmas and like have also made socks....
