I wish you all the best with your journey. Your a stronger person than. I gave up smoking for roughly 2 months and put on 2 stone ..............which I'm not happy about at all. I'm still not smoking in work and only when at home but am still carrying round the two stone that I put on.
I found that when your really craving a cigarrette the money incentive can seem pretty irrelevant to you after a while and the health benefits are what I was focusing on. It is truly awful and only someone who has stopped or has tried to stop will no what you are going through. Best of luck with it.
Personally I find the smell is most off putting ...So nice to come home last night and the house not be stinking :TWell done hollieinbloom, you too Part Mouse, you've both put yourselves in harm's way, in a sense, today and WON through, what great first to achieve! Now, if you've made it til the end of the day..that Day 1 under your belts already!!!!! :j:j I'm so very chuffed for you girls - be oh so proud of yourselves, you've every right to be!
I quite agree with your quoted part above, Hollie, no one can fully understand if they haven't smoked, some try so hard which is great, but it's not quite the same. These threads are marvellous.
All the best for a GREAT 2nd day girls - you've made Day 1, now carry on one day at a time - and don't forget The Quitters Pledge when you get up tomorrow! Together you CAN do it!!!

Hi lantanna, I agree completely with your thoughts about the savings as finances can get better and it's always possible that folk may then go back to smoking - but - having first made health the priority savings is a great 2nd and gives that extra incentive and a little more t focus on. Apart from that, a lot of people on MSE need to give it up pronto due to money and what I've tried to do is advise that it's best to save their cash as they go or it will soon fritter away on other things.
If you don't mind me saying so, 2 stone is a heck of an amount to whack on in 2 months!! Why not stop the home time smokes and step up the fruit and exercise by doing so much per day then gradually increasing it bit by bit. If you're not careful you'll almost swap one habit for another and have more probable health issues. Keep going strong lantanna and you could be saying cheerio to smoking for keeps!! :grinheartAll best wishes!

Yeah I put on some weight but mine was meds induced....so like I shouldn't worry. Who was it on here who said drink some water 1/2 an hour before you eat? I have tried it and it really works
...really good for staving the appetite..
Still have a blocked ear Sue...keep working
So stressed.. Ma panicked last night cos I was 10 mins late home (typical) when I said I was going out to Mr S for milk as soon as I got in  and the cab was late because of not having cash on me and I was over tired...

Mornin Erme, good to see you reaping the rewards of not smoking at home, a lovely fresh house indeed. If your ear's blocked how about having a word with the Pharmacist as he's got medication to help loosen it.
It's me that tells folk that having a glass of water no less than half an hour before eating helps us eat less when we're losing weight, but it's also the other junk type food that needs cutting out if folk are whacking it on. An increase in exercise obviously helps in both helping not to snack and the quitting, for the latter it's due to the increase of endorphins in the brain giving us a far better 'feel good stuff fags' approach! One other thing, to help prevent us snacking, keep a glass/bottle of water close by to keep sipping at...and fruit, fruit and more fruit - not forgetting the Ice Poles/Pops!!!
Have a good day Erme.

Brilliant news, Part Mouse!!!Try to keep both e-cig and gum to a minimum as the less you have to wean yourself from later the better, but as you rightly say, it's far better than fags! Keep it up, PM!!

Hi there, xmercx and welcome back! It's always good to see folk come back and try again, though very well done on having gone for 6 weeks at least is shows you is IS possible! If you can remind yourself of what it was that led you back to fags last time then be wary of it this time round.
It's wonderful that you and your OH are quitting together, you'll be able to support each other and remind each other of what to do if and when you get cravings. If you both read the AC book then so much the better too.
Good to see you again xmercx and never be tempted by thoughts of "just one puff/cig" it's never worth it and is such a huge price to pay. See you soon.

Hey all, hoping you don't mind a newbie joining the thread - I'm gonna attempt to read through a fair few of the previous posts later! I'm getting ready mentally for my quit day of 1st Jan, been a smoker 91/2 years now and enough is enough. I gave up for a few days last March but fell off through being attacked on a night out and the thought of quitting has been triggering but think I'm finally ready. The Mrs is taking me for a b&b break NYE so hopefully being away from home the first day will help, got my Quit Kit from Boots, patches and inhalator so wish me luck!:heartsmil

Hi Jessie and a very warm welcome to the thread! So sorry to hear of your awful experience in March! The best thing to do in readiness for stopping as what you'd done already, well done! I'll also send you a PM in a minute as there are some tips there. Apart from that, read and remember the....Smokers Pledge
"I'm NOT going to smoke any cigarettes today, but if I wish, I may smoke tomorrow" Then repeat the pledge every day until it's lodged in your brain and mind. All the very best to you for a successful quit, Jessie and please come here whenever you wish. You can moan, be livid, whatever you wish to give vent - we can take it! Don't forget to save the money and have a lovely NYE!

Hi Part Mouse, the headache may be the smoking, it may also be excitement at the prospects of all it endures! Have a glass of water as all too often headaches are also down to us being a little dehydrated. If it's still with you in an hour or two why not take just one parac!tomol.
Well done, you're doing so well!

For anyone who has tried to quit smoking there is an alternative which you may not have heard of and is becoming very popular.
Vaping as it is known uses an electronic cigarette to heat up liquid containing nicotine but none of the other 4000 chemicals. It produces vapour not smoke and were invented to overcome the smoking ban.
I got one last January and never touched a cigarette since. Of course quitting altogether is ideal but for those who have struggled it may be an option as you could reduce your nicotine strength over time by choosing a lower strength liquid.
There are a number of forums dedicated to Vaping so you can see what the options are and which vendors are recommended as there are some charging silly prices. Larger Tesco stores sell disposable electronic cigareetes at the pharmacy counter but for a good starter kit you should pay about £35 (Ego or Riva) and the devices are rechargeable so you only pay for consumables and liquid, approx £20 a month depending on usage.
Forums are: AAEC forum, UKVapers to name a couple.
Good Luck all0 -
Sue
I'm busy drinking water and eating fruit, missing my coffee and cig time though0
