The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

Hello All,
Well that is me now at 22 days smoke free! I have saved £143 and more importantly 1 day 19hrs 54min of my life!!!!! Not had any cravings and my diet is going………. ok. Had a couple of days off plan. Not due to craving any particular food just plans changed so what I had available changed to. I made sensible choices though so hopefully I haven’t done too much damage.
I was just thinking that I hadn’t really had any bad side affects, my sleep has been fine although I have found that I am waking easier (used to have to peel myself out of bed but have been jumping up with bags of energy lately). My teeth are without a doubt brighter and my sense of taste has improved loads. The only other thing I have noticed is that I have started to get a few really painful, large spots along my jawline. They are not really coming to much and they are really painful to touch. Bright red and very ugly but I am doing my best to just ignore them. I have had a look on the internet and apparently these type of spots are either linked to hormones or adrenalin glands???? Still none the wiser so just going to let them be and hope they !!!!!! off soon.
Off out tonight which is my danger area but I am feeling confident that I can manage it. Got a few tricks up my sleeve so if they work I will tell you all about them.
Welcome to all the newbie’s. This thread really can save your life. Good luck to all, just take each day as it comes. xxxxxJust little old me!0 -
...or 12 weeks on Sunday.
I'm pretty much off the nictotene replacement products, but I do still have a stash of them remaining for those 'danger moments'.
An example of a danger moment being that I was one of those evil people that for no other reason, other than to disrupt the normal lives of 'ordinary people' I went on strike on Wednesday. (Of course there's more to it than that, but that's for another thread).
I knew before we went out on the local rally that there would be a lot of temptations, so for the first time in over a week I put a patch on, and took the micro lozenges with me. I'm glad that I did as I'm sure that the craving could have been quite bad.
Some of you might remember that last month, I bought a laptop with some of the savings I hadn't yet made...those savings will be there next week, so as well as the camera that I bought a few weeks ago, I'll have this laptop all bought 'for free' out of the money that would otherwise have gone on smokes.
Hope everything is going OK for everyone else, and that you all have good weekends.0 -
Well done Davey - 12 weeks is fab!!:T
The whole point of living in a democracy is being able to stand up for you believe whether other people do or not....and i'd like to still cling to that thought as we rush headlong into some sort of dictatorship..lol
I haven't saved up for anything specifically - but have managed to reduce my overdraft quite a bit & as that's my last debt (other than mortgage) & i'm looking forward to that disappearing completely - then i will treat myself to something at some point. having spent so long paying off debts and being a bit of a scrooge - i find it hard to splash out:D
Good luck all
Chrissie .xx0 -
Not posted for some time, always wanted to stop but difficult living with two smokers.
On July 16th I became a non smoker,I found it so simple, let me explain.
Over a period of 4 or 5 weeks I smoked as normal with one exception,I gradually reduced the amount of smoke I inhaled.
On the final week I sucked smoke in and blew it out straight away.
One morning I found I had no nicotine addiction and wanted to see how long I could last,I managed to go till 4-30 pm,but all I was missing was sticking something in my mouth more irritating than addictive. The following day I was free of smoking and have no pangs since.:j0 -
Splendid work, kahunababy!!!! That AC book along with your own perseverance is really doing the trick for you! I've never heard anything bad about it, it's only had praise on this and the other 2 threads and many have done the same as you and started their passage to quitsville via it. It won't be long now until..not I won't say it, but I expect you know what I mean.
I agree with the hormones where the spots are concerned, but it could also be due to the last of the nicotine pushing it's way out, a form of cleansing. Whatever it is, it'll take it's course and go when ready. Be careful when you go out, take something to fiddle with, keys etc in the pocket are good. Hold back on the alcohol and going outside with friends. I'm sre you've become far too strong to give into any 'thoughts'.
Thank goodness you held onto the patches, Davey, it would have been awful to have possibly felt like giving in. You've done so well with all your spends, what a way to gain encouragement! Stay strong and look ahead to a far better future. A fantastic job, Davey though I'm saying no more until Sunday comes. Very well done!!The whole point of living in a democracy is being able to stand up for what you believe whether other people do or not....and i'd like to still cling to that thought as we rush headlong into some sort of dictatorship..lol
We don't have that already, Chrissie?!!! :shocked:I'm not saying another word (though good job my DH isn't here right now, he'd love to hear that bit!). :silenced: You're right about the splashing out bit, it's hard to get back to when you've spent a while being frugal, we tend to still think of every penny. Not a bad thing I s'pse.
Denis, I was so thrilled to see you back and especially to read your post!! Apart from anything, it's good to see another way to get ready to stop - it's marvellous - and extremely well thought out!! Once you chaps find your way, it's usually always easier than with us girls, but we all need to find the way in - and you did just that!
M a n y .... c o n g r a t u l a ti o n s to you, Denis, you've stopped for over 4 months and done a terrific job and are caring for your health! :T:T:T:T
Keep up your resolve everyone, you're heading for gold in every way!
Have a really lovely weekend.

Thanks for your kind words Sue-UU
I am an expert at stopping smoking 8 years my record.
Also an idiot at starting again.
When I smoked it all took place in the kitchen, we recently spent a fortune on a new kitchen which was my incentive to stop.
NO SMOKING in kitchen
As I write Beryl OH is in the garden wrapped up hooded up sucking on a fag :rotfl:
I need no more incentive than that.0 -
LOL Denis...
I was in the supermarket this lunchtime and the girl in front stunk of cigs...
Every time I smell someone outside reaking of cigs I'm reminded why I quit...
The smell of someone smoking outside is actually quite nice.......it reminds me of the trains as a wee bairn..
Morning Erme,
I truly wouldn't think that reducing the spray would have that much effect on sleeping. Whatever outdoor exercise you do now, step it up a gear and make yourself as physically tired as possible - that'll help more than anything. I'll send you a relaxation PM then you can have a go at the things I suggest when you wake up; if it doesn't help you get back to sleep, it might relax you more anyway and then in the long term will help with your sleep.
Don't forget though Erme one of these days when you can say ta ta to your peace pipe you'll be much, much better off when you're not ingesting nicotine in your body. I won't just be medically either, it'll do so much for you mentally; it really did change me completely!!
Take care!
Sue xx
Och okay...thanks...I've only vaped about a ml today. So quite pleased. Just sitting here waiting for freecycle...Hope they come soon but they have a long walk and it's baltic...could have dropped it off this am
...dang
...feel so bad
..it's only a lamp.
Made myself something healthy and nourishing this evening for tea. Chicken curry in the wok (minus the onion and all the spices) - was major yum but boy I have wind now...Haven't had curry for ages (yes I used a 9p jar mix LOL. So yes I cheated)...
So now wrapped up as it's minus something out there and blowing a gale I'm going to crochet and listen to the news.
I can't tell you my bad thoughts in the bedroom Sue suffice to say they aren't pleasant. I can get to sleep. It's just waking up earlier than I'd like. I had 5 hours sleep on Wednesday and then only a 9 hour catch up. Was certain it should have been more considering it was a catch up night

Sleep is going a lot better thanks....
Thanks for your MP Sue...Now to get out of sluggish mode
I've also got probs with my e-cig so praying I don't need new kit ...I can't get one till early next year when the mighty is due out. I've had this one for about 2 months. Or it could just be a leaky tank going into the battery or the batteries being dead. I don't know. They were just mega cheap ones I got a while back. But then I'm not vaping as much as I was. Maybe take the battery out overnight or something and see if that helps? let the whole kit dry out as much a possible. If it needs a new tank (had probs with the tank leaking for a while) it will be £30 next pay day and if it's the e-cig it'll be about the same. Don't know what to do
Obviously I could just try the plastic inhalators...that's an option now I'm down to 32mg/ml a day (and about 1-2ml a day) cos I've worked out you actually absorb about 10mg or so of that...
Don't know
I figure that if I'm inhaling nic then it's the same as the inhalator even if it is electronic. But I really want to stay on the e-cig a bit longer....:(...at least 6 months....
Any ideas.....
and I'm going to try and cut down my spray soon as well..It's currently 10 sprays a day (5 doses) and I'm going to cut it down to 3 or 4 after a few more days :j... Just use the inhalator in smoke free places

Morning all...
Can't believe in 3 days time I'm at my three month mark :j....
Had a herbal cig yesterday at the hospital (harder with more than one smoker around me - easier if it's just one person) on the premise that it was no nicotine. Won't be buying any - more expensive than the e-cig  and I get all the nasties from the herbal cig like tar and stuff I really don't want. Would rather be on the e-cig a bit longer
Tried to reduce the spray yesterday but didn't succeed. Really weird. I feel the same friendship towards the spray as I used to towards the cigs. So on a down day I feel I need the spray when probably I don't.
Vaped about 2ml yesterday. Am going to start monitoring it with a view to getting off the e-cig at some point. I think the stage after the e-cig is the inhalator...Just a question of maths...and then I can go onto it...
Obviously I do this on the basis that you absorb 1/3 of what you inhale...so right now 32x2 + 5 =69/3 =33. Not the right time to go fully inhalator as that last figure needs to be 20 or lower...But that's better than where I started at about 35/40 or so....:)...Might even reduce the e-cig after these 50ml or when it's the holidays (after 1 month)...don't know...
E-cig working - phew...Just missed kirk due to another lie in

I really do see your stumbling point, Denis, any chance of Beryl stopping any time soon? Never ever keep giving up, but preferably right now....DON'T GO BACK!!!!
Hi Erme, 12 sprays is a lot for someone who's got the sinus problems you have, do try hard to keep it to an absolute minimum or STOP, you really will benefit.
Re your peace pipe problems, it would be marvellous (for you!) if you could reduce it right down. I know one thing, with all you say you're getting closer and closer to NOT having to rely on Nic and would feel so much better, despite what you sometimes feel, if you could get shot of the lot. One day Erme, one day!!! :grinheart
By the way, I've not yet sent the PM I was referring to, but if you can take note of the one I'll send in a jif, it would help a lot when you wake up and can't get back to sleep. You'll see, I'll send it off in a mo. Also, you belong to Spark People, have a look at one of their free videos of yoga or on TouTube; also look out for relaxation ones on YT. When you find a good'n download it and do every day or more than once per day, you truly will feel better after a while.
