The Giving Up Smoking Thread - Part 3

Hi all, just checking in, going really well for me, what I really can't believe now is that I smoked for so long, so utterley stupid. A hardened smoker asked me the other day if i was missing it, I said no, and the good thing is it is the truth. More good news on the dieting front, i have lost 11lbs and OH has lost 19lbs, thanks for the kick start sue.
Sadly my friend that i posted about a couple of weeks ago that had been diagnosed with throat and lung cancer has died, another good reason for me never to smoke again.Debt Free Dec 2009non-smoker 19th Nov 2010Trying to lose weight 40lb/42lb

Good morning all :hello:
Still going strong here. :j:j
Jennyo Great news and also that you have lost so much weight (& your OH). That's my next battle, I think.
darwins mum : Thanks for posting. It really helps those of us who are trotting up the road behind you to see someone in the far distance and know that it is possible.
Topsy-Turphy You're much the same distance along as I am and it is great, isn't it. :T
Slugger You know now that you are stronger than the evil Nic! Well done. That feeling of having to be busy is one I think most of us have had. There's no dust bunnies in my house any more :rotfl::rotfl:
Lucy Great news on the declining cravings. :j We smell so sweet now!
shegirl Super news from you. The third day was not any different from any other day for me and I hope it goes smoothly for you. I didn't have the smokey thing in my chest but I did have a funny feeling in my throat for a couple of weeks. My sense of smell became very acute and that is one thing that kept me going.
Kat Funny how the brain works, isn't it. I've found that thinking through each and every temptation has helped - once I've worked out why I feel the urge, I can adjust my thinking. I even had a feeling of guilt because a friend had to go outside on her own to smoke.
Casper :hello: Welcome to our merry band. I've saved over £660 now and I agree that I feel I was so stupid to spend money like that. Still, we've seen the light and will make sure it doesn't happen again!
DNMS Hi, again :hello: I've noticed that it is quiet and have to admit I'm not on here as much now that I feel more secure in my quit. Peeps do keep popping in from time to time and I reckon some lurk as they think it will get boring to keep saying "Doing fine."
LURKERS See my reply to DNMS and please post to say how you are doing. It helps us and any new folk.
Sue What can I say. Your support means a lot to us all. Thank you.:T:T:T
Keep on, keeping on! We're free! But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Well day 9 of the fags for me, I've been finding since I quit my sleep has been quite disturbed, but anyway I woke this morning and was lying in bed thinking I want a fag, that was the first real bad moment i've had in days, but I got up had a shower and the craving past. Its odd but I still kinda think of myself as a smoker, it hasn't sunk in yet that I am a none smoker, but anyway I'm sure that will come.
Also think its time to lay of the sweets, been on the trot all day:(0 -

Just bumping this up so any lurkers can find it. If there is no one here when you come by, there is plenty of older posts to read and, believe me, every situation imaginable has been met by one of us.But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0

hi lucy
most of us have blipped at least you have decided not to make it permanent , ( I started after 9months of doing soooo well after my mariage split up but am here again and 3 months + fag free )
take stock of why you felt you had to light up and be prepared if the situation or cause comes by again ..old nic wants you to believe its a solution and is your "friend" will make you feel better ..but it never does ..pick yourself up and a fresh new dawn awaits ...and if you have any fagalia lying about chuck it away ( in water ) again a lot of us have rummaged even in bins to get the wee blighters after they have been disguarded ..
we are all here to support you
