Oh DNM, you're far too kind. I love trying to help if I can though. I know what a struggle it was for me with all the years of knowing I just had to do it, but being scared to quit and terrified not to, my life and the lives of my hubby and children were suffering - and all because of me being a smoker!! When I finally stopped the release from being a nervous wreck was phenomenal, so if I can be of use, I'm so happy to be. Aside from that, I love nature and all wildlife and taking photos of all. I have a health problem (nothing whatsoever to do with smoking) and I have some time on my hands apart from when I'm not so good. There you go, some gaps filled in....now we're almost related!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

Hi Casper, and many congratulations on quitting again! :T:TYou know you've done it before and you can stick to it now and never, ever go back to your old ways again, after all what's the point!! Any problems you come across in future, a glass of water, take a good brisk walk and, where possible get right away from the situation. Whatever makes us take it up again, it doesn't help at all, we just think it will, then we start right back at the beginning again! Not this time eh Casper!!! ;)

Hi shegirl and a warm welcome to the thread. Don't be scared as it's never as bad as we think it might be, try and look forward to getting your health back. I'll send you some tips to help you through, meanwhile keep coming here and letting us know how you feel. You'll possibly, not definitely, get one or two not so good days - BUT - you'll also get good ones and those you hang onto! :j If you get a rough one then just remember that the common pattern is that the next day is always better. Come on and tell us. Read the thread through, it will help you a lot, and look for something to do in the evening to distract you, an old hobby or a new one, something you love if possible. Personally, I agree with you about the cold turkey, as, to my mind it does get it all over with faster, but each to their own, but I think you're right to give it your best shot. For now, drink water, eat fruit especially apples and oranges. Also have some carrots and celery washed and ready in the fridge to nibble away on. Finally, do as much exercise as you can - it helps so very, very much - give it a try and you'll see!! ;)

Janie, could you feeling down have been to do with TTOTM? It's surprising how it affects us, after all it's bad enough any time! I'm pleased the sun lifted you though, a great and natural pick me up.....if of course ....it's shining!! :D

slugger, you need to give your body - and mind - chance to adapt to the huge change they're both undergoing before you're going to feel major changes. We've almost all smoked for a heck of a time and you can't just stop and feel great about it. In time though you'll realise little things aren't what they used to be ie. Skin looking far better, wheeziness goes, nose is less stuffed, you can go up flights of stairs without feeling as though your lungs are bursting, teeth stop rotting (even if you never knew they were!) and your gums get oxygen flowing back through them again. There are so many other things that will happen that you won't even be aware of, but as a result of you stopping you will begin to heal, not least of all, in your lungs where changes will be amazing...over time! You will already have stopped smelling like an old ashtray - and setting light to £20 notes! As I think of more I'll let you know, because believe me there re LOADS!!! :D Meanwhile, whatever you feel within - or don't feel - you know you're chances of ending up like your friend's Mum will drastically lessen. Be chuffed to bits at how far you've come and so very proud of yourself as you're doing so very well!!:T:T

Good to see you freeing yourself day by day of that nasty habit Lucy, excellent!!!:T:T

More very positive posts and feelings everyone, brilliant news! Another good day tomorrow, but if it's not, don't get het up, stay relaxed and ask yourselves how you can help yourselves. Water, fruit, veg and exercise. Failing that - beating the he*l out of a pillow or screaming in to one!!!

    I have done it!

What I mean is I figured out why I was having the odd puff and stopped it. It wasn't even that I wanted to smoke - I didn't enjoy the puffs at all, I didn't want to miss out on anything. Now I know it's the smokers I went out with who are missing out.

I couldn't get online yesterday for some reason!!!

Well,I went the whole of yesterday without a fag and have had none today :D

I haven't had hard cravings as such yet as have pushed them away so far but keep getting a thought in my head saying 'shall I just buy some fags and only have a couple?' :o I did,out of habit, accidently buy 10 at the shop yesterday but have not touched one:D

I am feeling a bit on edge at times but I can smell things today I couldn't smell before and that's keeping me positive.

One annoying thing though is that I'm waking in the mornings with a smokey feel in my chest that I've never felt before :s I'm not sure if that's because it is actually smokey and I should feel it or if it's my body playing tricks and saying 'you know you want one':rotfl:

I've found myself wringing my hands quite a bit and have an urge to be constantly doing something even when I have nothing to do.

Is it right that day 3 is the worst? If so,I'm not lookig forward to tomorrow!!!

Well for me day 3 wasn't bad, No different that any other day, if you tell yourself its going to be bad then it will be, I think the most important thing about giving up smoking is having the right frame of mind, get that sorted and giving up smoking is no big deal.

    2 months 2 days champix

    hi everyone

not had chance to post over last few days. Still doing okay, no cravings now and find I have got more energy at last. Still haven't felt the benefits of the money side of things, apart from being able to pay for ds2 school trip without thinking. I have been going jogging about 3 times a week and walking the other days. I am also doing some embroidery(1st time ever), it's a project from the craft group I go to. I am also enjoying being out in the garden in the lovely sunshine and getting more done, not stopping every hour for a ciggie.

Well done to everyone that is taking the no smoking journey, it's down to the support here that has helped me so much. Take care.

Very well done, Kat, I'm so thrilled for you that it was you who worked it out, and it certainly makes sense. It's so good to get an answer where possible. Keep strong and keep smoke-free!!! :j

Fantastice news, shegirl!!!!! :j:T:j You've done marvellously, one day at a time from here and please, don't pay any attention to any c*ck and bull stories about day 3! That is just what some folk think, some even say it to fresh quitters in an attempt to get them back to smoking so they themselves will feel better!:mad: You're strong, so keep at it. It's a very natural thing not knowing what to do with yourself;most of us spring clean the house to get rid of anything that was in oue past smoking life - give it a go! The chestiness is natural too, stick with it and it'll soon loosen up. Brilliant news of your first couple of days FREE, but please, don't ever be tempted by thoughts of "just one puff/cig" :naughty: or you'll soon be right back where you started and feeling so mad at yourself!!! You've started and have a great life ahead!! :D

If the Halls Soother sweets are working in the short term, slugger then don't worry abot it, you'll wean yourself off when the timing's better. Meanwhile, GREAT news!!!! :T

Very well done indeed, Lucy!!! :T:T You are douing soooo very, very well and should be as proud as is possible, keep hard at it. BTW how long is it now? Could you please pop it on your Title bar each day along with the method used CT, it's a great help to others replying (like me who can't remember for toffee!!! :(). Thanks Lucy and WELL DONE!!!

Awww topsyturphy, you sound so very happy, a different person! Congratulations on doing so very well. :T:T:T Great news about the embroidery too, you sound as though along with the gardening you're taking on a near new lifestyle. I sincerely hope you're feeling sooo very proud of all you've achieved so far!

More great news, this thread is almost buzzing and it's terrific to see and feel. Everyone's doing so very well, there's so much well-earned pride here, just as it should be! :D No matter how far ahead you are folks, it's a day closer!!!

After smoking for the best part of 30 years I smoked my last cigarette in NYE 2010 and have never looked back. I had dallied with patches for 6 months prior to that. I confess to occassionally sucking on an inhalator but have no desire to smoke again. My inhalator has proved useful in certain stressful situations when previously I would have smoked, but more often than not nowadays it stays at home.
During December and January I had a vile chest infection and 3 hospital admissions in a 6 week period. Even while on a nebuliser I was still craving cigarettes! I am not really into self loathing, but this behaviour brought me up short!
Taking one day at a time and enjoying the extra pennies on my purse at the end of each month.

At one stage I really didnt think that I would get to where I am now, but am feeling very proud of myself.
    Have a good day y'all
