powerful_Rogue wrote: »Hi,
I was wondering if someone would be able to help.
I gave up smoking last year for 7 months and never felt so good, but unfortunatly I fell back into the trap and for the past month ive been smoking again on and off.
Is there a limit to the amount of times you can go on the NHS stop smoking scheme to get patches?
Welcome Rogue :hello:
I can't answer that exactly but most supermarkets that have a pharmacy do a scheme which gives you patches on prescription from the pharmacist so you don't have to go via the doctors.
Well done for trying again.:T I guess you've now learnt the lesson most of us had to learn the hard way NEVER TAKE ANOTHER PUFF!
Good luck and keep posting. We're all in the same boat and paddling together. But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?0 -
Thanks Triciaxxx,
I suppose the saying "Once a smoker always a smoker" rings true. It only takes one puff to get hooked again. Im going to pop up Tesco later on and see what they say.
I hate having the wheezy chest again and im just about to get into running....even booked myself into a marathon in October, so 7 months to train and I dont want the cigarettes to get in the way.0 -
Reporting from the MLC app on my iphone:-

Haven't been around for a while:
Three weeks, three days, 14 hours, 9 minutes and 16 seconds. 368 cigarettes not smoked, saving £101.99. Life saved: 1 day, 6 hours, 40 minutes.
I have come off the patches to give it a go. I have a horrendous cough in the nights and mornings and an annoying tickly cough during the day.
I haven't been perfect, far from it. I have had the occassional puff- haven't enjoyed any of them. So why do I still have the occassional puff? I know I don't like it so I just don't get it.

Champix 2 weeks, 1 hour, 23 minutes smoke free
Hi all
140 cigs not smoked, 11 hours 40 minutes life saved. That's almost a full day... wonder if I could add that onto my 2 weeks holiday and have moreMight try explaining that one to my boss
Back to see the nurse today for my CM test and it was 1 again. Had a few cravings these last few days, but they don't last long and I try to distract myself until they pass.
Am going to put the money not spent aside and save it up for a treat... mmmmm, bread maker? new drill? electric whisk? fish (for fish tank)? Bit of a mix there, but all things that I want/need.
Still determined to succeed and hope you are all doing well x
Ooops! 11 hours and 40 minutes is almost half a day, not full day!
Doh!
Made perfect sense to me when I wrote that
Hope all keeping well x0 -

OK, Lucy, so what exactly do you do each time a craving comes on? If you don't put your mind to instantly doing something to take your mind right away from the 'thoughts' then you should! Please, have a look at the PM I sent you, it's all about what to do at such times.
We've all smoked for far too long and during that time nicotine and all the chemicals that go into our bodies has been having a big effect on us. So we stop - but - the effects to our bodies and especially our minds still goes on for a while, it's bound to. We lose all the nicotine from our bodies after 3 days, but it takes longer than that for it to go from our minds. Everything we've done during the time we smoked has been timed to when we next have a fix, little wonder then that you're still get bugged by 'thoughts' after we've stopped. First thing to do is sip at a glass of water, or drink 1/2 a glassful of it, whatever's best for you. Walk outside, run upstairs...anything to stop you thinking of it.
Crunch into an apple or any fruit, or grab an Ice Pole/Pop from the freezer and suck on that - they're great for exactly that - long-lasting and refreshing. Have a photo album, video film nearby to grab and view and take your mind off of what you perceive to be cravings. It won't last long and the further away from stopping you get, the esier it'll be - I promise you! Be kind to yourelf Lucy and be so VERY proud of how well you've already done....you're so close to your FIRST week free!!!
Brilliant news of how you're doing Janie!!!!Very well done indeed!! DH & I have an aquarium and wouldn't be without our fish, thy're so very relaxing, so I'd go for them any day. Think it out Janie and all the best!

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DMS, Dundeedoll and Sue!!!
I had a crazy hour earlier, I haven't been that bad all week! I guess because it's the weekend and an excuse to smoke and drink and because there is no reason to get up early on a Saturday! I felt completely besides myself!
Sue hun, I did read all of the material you sent me but do you think my irrational mind would take any notice at the time of serious cold turkeyness??? Oh no! I was pacing up and down, up and down like a crazy woman, fighting fighting that feeling! I came here but no one was hereSo I shut down the laptop and went out for a little while...
I am OK now, cravings have gone!!! Nice couple of glasses of wine and a few choccies and I am doing good! I will go the gym in the morning and have a good workout!
Thank you my support group!! I don't know what I would do without you! I am so happy that I resisted that awful drug!!! I know that I can get through it now after getting through tonight! You are amazing, thank you for being here xx
