hey Lucy the pleasure is all mine! Am so happy to help anyone get free, but you've done all the work! I just pointed you in this direction, and yes this thread and the wonderful supportive people on it make all the difference! I wish we could get an ad on the TV we could cure millions - although would we have the time??!? :rotfl:

so you will need to update that thread you started very soon as you have a it more to play with now eh??? :T

so sorry to hear about your break up but hopefully over time something much more wonderful will happen for you (when I broke up with my partner 6b years ago I was devastated and had a breakdown. Now I realise as difficult as it was it was the best thing as I have met someone who has changed my life - I really wish you the same x)

I still have you to thank for this.... I mean one minute I'd started a topic wondering what people live on a month, the next I was directed here by you!! Subsequently some gorgeous people have PM'd me, helped me and now I am nicotine free!.... AND over £200 better off this month, it is amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was a hardcore smoker and I didnt think I could manage an hour let alone nearly 5 days without a cig! :j

    Hi All

Sorry I havent been on in ages.

I seem to be struggling now more than ever even though I'm near the 2 month mark.

Keep having the thoughts that "one won't hurt" (although havent caved in). Is this normal??

Thought things would be getting easier but my cravings seem to be worse now more than ever...

    :(

You've already had some brilliant response to your post, but may I nudge you in the direction of...................

I went through a bit of the same thing..................here is what I posted at the time.................someone posted on here to say it helped them at the time, so I will repost again (Apologies if you've seen it before anyone!)

Had 4 hours of ironing on my second job of the day too, so that gave me 8 hours of thinking time.

Now, I must explain that I really, honestly haven't been craving at all (Since my 1 time when DS2 was off to dad's for weekend and that was always my 'smoke time') BUT I have noticed that I have been THINKING like a smoker a couple of times. By that I mean that I've forgotton for a few seconds that I am no longer a smoker.

    Anyway.................My thinking is:

If I decide to stay a non-smoker then there is a chance I MAY:

experience a craving which will last seconds........minutes at the most and cravings are NOT guaranteed!
    That is the ONLY negative.

    it is guaranteed:
i will feel so very very proud of myself
have less chance of any of the things below happening

If I decide to become a smoker again then there is a very high chance that it will: (in no particular order :D)

affect my sinuses (and the suffering is torture)
make me have a hacking cough
feel the cold more because of bad circulation
have a very negative effect on my teeth/gums and lead to loss of teeth
    affect my skin
    affect my lungs/breathing
    increase my chances of cancer
increase my chances of suffering a stroke
increase my chances of suffering a heart attack
    increase my chances of thrombosis
    increase my chances of gangerine/amputation
force me to come off of my HRT patches

    it is guaranteed it will:
    cost me between £60 & £70 a month
make me and my clothes smell horrible
make me FREEZING when I have to stand outside to smoke
make me anxious having to worry about when and where I can smoke (was a secret smoker)
make me anxious having to think whether I've got enough/am running out
make me feel very disappointed with myself

I wish you strength to get through this....xXx

Lucy, as another poster has said, its probably oxygen getting back into your skin. I had the most weird creepy crawly feelings in my face in the skin when I gave up after a month or so. I was told it was the oxygen.

Your gums are particularly vulnerable - if you watch any of those 10 years younger programmes, you can see all the smokers have lost most of their teeth or their teeth are loose. This is because the smoke actually kills off the gums with the poisons and stopping oxygen circulating and they start shrinking. At its worse, some people get cancer of the mouth. Cor, you should see my lovely pink gums now :) :T

Your skin will get better and better the longer you stay off the fags, in fact, you have probably already saved enough to have a decent facial - why dont you book one and get off the dead skin that the fags have caused and see how much more radiant your skin is under that?

I agree with the other posters who have mentioned this..............it's more than likely your circulation returning.

The 10 year younger program (& Alex Higgins' - snooker player -death) is what I think made me unconciously stop smoking. To explain for those that haven't seen me say before, I had tried to give up desperately before, didn't last a day.....................ran out one Sunday morning - August 1st 2010 - and never bought another packet!

It is sooooooooo satisfying to read of others who have kicked Nick O'Teen out of their life!

Oh update on the sore gums.... went to the doctor, I have mouth ulcers from quitting smoking... strange huh?!

Anyway I have been given some treatment which should take care of the pain and they should be gone in no time. I was offered some nicotine replacement thingies but I said no... I have done so well to get this far without nicotine I don't want any substitutes...

Day 6 cold turkey, thanks Dundeedoll, Compbunny, Sue and the rest of you gorgeous people, it's getting easier and I love that my handbag smells fresh without a fag packet in it! xxx

Hiya JD, I wondered why you weren't on either thread, but can see and understand why now. I was so sorry for you that you had to have your poor cat friend put to sleep, a very sad, but necessary event. Oh dear, naughty dog in killing your poor duck!!! When we first had ducks we also had a Jack Russell !!!!!, she was awful if the ducks were fenced in and killed one! We watched her after letting them out, as we knew that before they were fenced in, that she loved being with them - she even used to let them nibble around her neck!!! The ones we have now don't even interest our young Lab, thankfully! Crazy animals we have. ;)

I'm so pleased everything in the fag-free world is going so well, JD, you and I seem to have known straight away that thre was no going back after we'd finished with them, I knew that if I could get through a fortnight, I'd be ok and it proved to be right! I've never heard of galaxy counters before, yet I saw the darn things today - and bought a pack - and here you are saying about them, not likely to get an addiction to them I hope!! Have a great time with your DD, and terrific news about how long you've quit for, excellent JD!!!

Hi there Mat, good to see you - and to see it's been almost 2 months! That's soooo very good Mat, you've done yourself really proud. Great stats!!! :T :j

Good to hear about your gum/mouth problems being sorted out by your Dr, Lucy. I didn't realise you meant they were painful....just weird and tingly. Anyway, that makes a lot of sense and is very normal too, just like colds and coughs coming on after stopping are. You'll soon have yourself feeling so much better. I see you have determined to thank for your freedom from fags, good for you DNM!!! ;)

Good to see you DD. :)

Champix 2 weeks, 1 hour, 23 minutes smoke free

    Hi all

140 cigs not smoked, 11 hours 40 minutes life saved. That's almost a full day... wonder if I could add that onto my 2 weeks holiday and have more :D Might try explaining that one to my boss ;)

Back to see the nurse today for my CM test and it was 1 again. Had a few cravings these last few days, but they don't last long and I try to distract myself until they pass.

Am going to put the money not spent aside and save it up for a treat... mmmmm, bread maker? new drill? electric whisk? fish (for fish tank)? Bit of a mix there, but all things that I want/need.

Still determined to succeed and hope you are all doing well x

    Hi,

I was wondering if someone would be able to help.

I gave up smoking last year for 7 months and never felt so good, but unfortunatly I fell back into the trap and for the past month ive been smoking again on and off.

Is there a limit to the amount of times you can go on the NHS stop smoking scheme to get patches?
