Hi Oldreekie - jelly belly is incredible although it may be my age too - I need to get rid of as I have never had this before.

Re gums - I think I told why I stopped because of dental stuff - my teeth were fine but my gums had to go also my elderly, wonderful, teddy cat started to wheeze & had to have serious steriods & anti-biotics as he kept getting infections. We live in a caravan so tight space - vet eventually asked me if I smoked. It hit home that I'd compromised my little furry friends lungs to the point of having to take him a 70 mile journey when he got a lung infection & also he has to get regular meds for lung stuff - in the main due to passive smoking - somethings kick you into touch.
My teeth were great but because of gum disease I lost all my teeth apart from 6 lower ones. Cost so far £345. My gums have shrunk so much I need a new set but cannot be seen before June at the earliest NHS - I think things will be much worse & I will be hundreds again for a fitting dentures & also the getting them broken in - really no joke & very, very painful.
I always had good teeth, always brushed & flossed. so far it seems that it is only the teeth I have lost after 32 years of being a smoker.
I underwent a lot of infections & the dentist reckoned I was not well as there was so much going around my system for a long time from absesses etc.
I don't miss it - I don't miss the coughing up & all the stuff.
I do actually notice the stink on others who smoke.
Just musing. Really glad I stopped.

Day 50 for me which seems to me to be a significant milestone, so I'm feeling a little bit extra chuffed today.
Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

Hi everyone, I tried and failed to quit with patches last year but this time I have so far not touched a single one since quit day. I'm sturggling though, whenever I've looked on the internet I keep seeing these posts about how easy it was quitting with champix and people saying they never wanted one etc etc. I'm finding though that although it has been easier with the champix I still have some cravings and do miss it a little which then makes me feel guilty and rubbish about myself. I'm not going to give in to the cravings and feel confident about that at the moment but I still feel like I'm failing for still wanting one :(
  • I'm still going! I do still sometimes think about ciggys if I'm honest :o but not much, mostly I'm really pleased with myself:j

    Keep going everyone!
  • Read Allen Carrs easyway. Had last cig on Saturday 2.15pm. Will never smoke again. Feels weird because its no big deal, no grumpiness, no cravings, no pangs. Nothing. I smoked for 25 years. Don't feel I am missing out on anything.

Read the book please, I wish someone had have told me to do that years ago.

My husband is astonished, nobody believes me

    Just wierd, fabulous wierd

Oh choille and oldreekie, It was wonderful to see the conversations in flow again, like two old friends catching up, which is true to a degree. :D:D

I didn't realise you were still in the caravan, choille, that must have been so bally cold that far up in the Highlands!!! Cor, shiver me timbers!! [Edit] Have just read your last post choille, and if that doesn't put folk off smoking then nothing will!!! :eek:You poor, poor girl, it must have been agony, though there doesn't seem too much difference between you & OR! I was extremely fortunate with my teeth and gums, a bit of gingivitis but that's about it, whereas you two were both it really, really bad. I do hope that come June things will look up for you and you'll have seen the lat of the dentist apart from checkups. Keep coming back and letting us know how things are going....and all the very best with your poor cat - and they said about 20 years ago that our lungs weren't made the same as animals, so they couldn't be harmed!! Just like they withheld all the bad things way back in the early 70's!!! Sw***s!!!

I could almost feel the pain with that gum disease you've had OR, I can't begin to think what it'd be like, but if the offer of having a summary of all that went on, is still ok with you, then I'd love to have a copy; you never know who might wish to know - or be dissuaded - in the future! I forgot to add last night that I'm delighted you're beginning to feel little better, long may it continue OR! :D

Very well done, Janey!!! It just goes to show how powerful Champix is - and how determined you are! :T All the best with the CM reading, it shouldn't be too bad, but remember you have smoked so it won't be right down low, but owt's better than now!!! All the best with the essay!

...and by golly you deserve to be thinking that about the 50 days and feeling so chuffed, Karb! Congratulatios, you've done marvellously!!! :T:T:T Keep right on going as you have been and you're doing exactly as you should!

Hi there Inca! :wave:It's so good to see you back again, but please, please don't feel so badly about yourself, if you were as bad as you seem to think then you wouldn't be back here again, now would you!!! Don't worry about how others get through or how they feel as we're all individuals and what suits one doesn't always suit us all. Also, it takes some longer for the drug (or whatever means are used} before they feel the ease of stopping. Be patient and kind with yourself, Inca, you've been smoking for a good long while, you can't expect to change overnight or within days. Plug away at it and take each day at a time. Use the daily pledge "Today, I'm not going to smoke any cigarettes, but if I wish, I may smoke tomorrow." Then keep renewing your pledge every day. Sometimes we can win the battle by playing little mind game, give it a go and see if it helps. Do also keep on sipping water and eating fruit, and take as much exercise as is possible - it really does help everyone through it all so much easier! Find yourself something good to do in your free hours and take you mind away from it all. Keep coming here on a daily basis and let us know how you're feeling, good, bad - whatever - it will help just to write it all down. Any tears or emotions, give way to them and get it out of our system. We CAN help you, just as sure as YOU can help yourself, but please - don't ever feel as though you're failing - YOU ARE NOT!!!! If you were, you would not be back here!! I'm a PM away if ever you wish to 'chat'. Keep strong and bear in mind that YOU are as good as anyone else, as strong too!! ;) Be proud inca, that's exactly what you should be doing. :)

Hiya IWRS!! Good Heavens above - that last 4 months seems to have flown by!! You've done brilliantly! Many congratulations indeed!!!! :T:T:T:T Good to know thoughts of them soon go. I bet you're so thrilled to bits at all you've done, you have every reason to be!!! Thanks for not forgetting us!

Oh, I most certainly do, funandfrugal!! :D Many people absolutely swear by it and it's had soooo many successes, it sounds as though you're well on you way to being another with the attitude you have and the affect the book has had on you. Excellent news and thanks so very much for the great feedback for others! All the very best for a non-smoking life! :T

Another day almost over folks and a fresh one lies ahead, another day in the smoke-free life you're adapting so well to! Keep at it, it pays HUGE such dividends!

    1 week smoke free

Im using champix too, i used once before and stayed off for 18months then lapsed for four months.
I used most methods before and found champix very helpful but nrt hadnt been very effective for me . It is a big change to make and at times when you would normally light up i think people feel a bit restless , like me when i get in from work or after dinner in particular.

Youre doing so well, bet if someone else you knew had stopped for a week you;d be full of praise for them! wee pat on the back for you:T

    Very true words, JD!!! ;)

Thanks Ruby for the great advice to Inca, it's always good to hear how those who are using the same as you are getting on. You're so right about the pat on the back and EVERYONE needs to give themselves a pat on the back as, whatever means you quit by, it's still a HUGE thing to be doing. :T Be full of the pride you deserve, Inca - you got yourself there - no one else!!! Well done you too on your week Ruby!!

Very well done, mmikailian!!! I smiled at your lass finding the spots comical, though laughing WITH you not at you! Be patient and try to think about all the muck and rubbish leaving your body. Give yourself lots of credit for what you're doing.

NB Could you dear folk please pop the amount of time fag-free and means used on the Title Bars of each post, it really does hlp us all to know where each other are and gives great feedback to those watching the thread. Thanks a lot.

    Back later.

    Love, Sue x
