She has another LO who will need looked after during the Summer hols too. I like this girl, but she basically told me she couldn't afford to pay her mortgage if she took maternity leave, but now she will be getting full pay to stay at home with her baby for 6 month, whereas I'm getting SMP.

I'd rather have the maternity leave and SMP and spend time with my baby than working at home.. I wonder when her PND will be diagnosed.. and how about if she gets sined off sick in the last few weeks the company can put her on maternity leave she'll have no choice! She will also not be protected from redundancy I wouldn't think.. might be worth putting these thoughts in her head! ;)

TBH I don't think she has any intention of working full time and I'm sure she knows it's not possible. She can't afford to lose her salary and is using her friendship with the owner to get full pay while not working full time. I can sympathise with her situation, but we all have bills to pay and I'm not trying to get money for nothing.

@MV - sorry, also can't help. Have you decided what to do? I think I should get my letter emailed to my bosses about my holiday. No point in waiting really.

@CL - I think it's the employer that's crazy. Surely they know she won't be working as hard? I can easily do my job at home, but there is no way I'd have 5 minutes to concentrate with DD here. Not to mention how sleep deprived she'll be in the early weeks. I'll never forget how horrible that first month was.

DD rolled over today from her back to her front, then cried. She doesn't like being on her front and can't roll from belly to back.

She has also learned how to squeal in delight and spent most of the day squealing...it's starting to wear thin on me now :)

Sadly she has still not poo'd on her own :( She's been straining again today and nothing. Not sure what to do. I've been offering her the breast more to make sure she's hydrated. I'm wondering if I should try giving some water but everything I read says the breastmilk is all she needs. Any opinions?

giz.. I'd not give her anything else.. she might just be a bit windy after her good clear out and a bit gripey.. breastmilk is easier to absorb so will rehydrate her better than water so water is pointless. Have you tried a bit of masage on her tummy? Maybe shift stuff along a bit quicker?

We were told by a doctor to give LO a bottle with some unrefined brown sugar in 2 fl oz of cooled boiled water for constipation. She is BF too.

For those who are peeved at their work, you'll love this. My employer only pays SMP, which I knew when I took the job, so is fair enough. I've just found out that another member of staff (who is very, very friendly with the owner) is having a baby, but has said she will not be taking maternity leave, she will be working from home for 6 months on full pay. Her job requires a lot of foriegn travel (usually a week away every month) and she is planning to breastfeed. How is that doable?

It's impossible to work full time from home and have children around. I know because I'm part time and I struggle with it! Anything you do manage to do when they are awake is a half hearted attempt as you've got one eye on the keyboard and the other eye on what they are getting up to.

In a previous job, a lady was pregnant and also very house proud and people were joking that her house would never be the same again. However she was going to have a perfect baby who would be in bed early every night. She was going to have lots of boxes so all the baby things could be cleared out of the sitting room on an evening and there would be no evidence of a child and her and her husband were going to relax with wine like before they had children. Me and the other Mammy's just smiled at each other as we all thought "yeah righto" :rotfl:
Here I go again on my own....

I have to admit that we got a cleaner a few months ago.

She only comes once a fortnight as we can't really afford once a week, and it probably isn't very MSE, but it's saving my sanity!

    Good evening ladies,

You lot have been chatty recently. I'm so rubbish at keeping up. I can just about keep up with FB on my phone - I hardly ever seem to get the laptop out nowadays :(

MV - That sounds rubbish about the job. Maybe you should just find something else. Try not to stress about it now - you don't want it to overshadow your happy time with Josh :)

DD had her 8 week jabs today :( She cried, but DH was holding her as it made me sad, and when we got home she cried again. But it wasn't her usual hungry wail, it was more of a sad, pitiful cry :(:(:( She's had lots of cuddles and is fast asleep in her cot now.

Also, she teased me this week by sleeping from 11pm to 5am 2 nights in a row. I was so excited, then she decided it was more fun to wake mummy up at 3am instead ;) Oh well, we'll get there one day!
