You seem a bit confused - it was your son a few minutes ago?

Edit: Have you done it lots of times since you asked the question yourself in July? Have you also flown on a one bag airline, as opposed to BA who allow one bag plus a handbag?
    Gone ... or have I?

Its unlikely they will check so long as the bag fits within the cabin baggage measurements, and you don't make the bag look overly heavy when waiting to board. However, is there anything you can take out and not take with you? Do you have anything like a coat or heavy sheos/boots included in your hand luggage that you could wear on the flight? If you have a book packed in your luggage too, take that out and carry it - people often read in the departure lounge so it's not unreasonable to carry that - it will help bring the weight down a bit.

It doesn't seem any heavier than it was when i flew here last week. I just thought I'd best weigh it to be on the safe side. (I didn't bring the Xbox with me)

The bag has inside, 'an Xbox, 4 games, 2 controllers, cables etc, few unwrapped xmas presents, several boxershorts and pairs of socks.
I couldn't really wear any of that to make the weight go down.

does it get weighed when they put it through the x-ray machine?

The only reason that they could weigh it and inspect it is that they will ask me to open it to show them whats inside. (it says on their terms and conditions that any electric equiptment must be shown prior to checking in, or somthing similar)

I don't think it would be worth the risk if i wasn't allowed to do that

Just stuff the extra in a rucksack and carry as a handbag my son travels a lot and has never been questioned about his 'handbag' he mostly travels without checking in luggage just hand luggage and his rucksack.. as long as the rucksack can go under the seat in front of you its not a problem

    Bad advice.
  • Yep, only take one bag. Some airlines allow you to take a handbag + cabin bag, but some airlines doesn't include BMI Baby who will charge you for it.

You are right dmg24 I have always flown with BA.. I used my son as an example but have, since flying more this last year followed his example by carrying a rucksuck in which I have been able to put my handbag and various other 'extra' bits and pieces.. sorry if I have given bad advice but its worked on all of my flights without problems .. obviously I can't comment on other airlines as I haven't travelled with them.. I'll refrain from commenting on things I obviously know very little about..

Get a flyfishing vest with lots of pockets - something like this

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FLADEN-FISHING-VEST-MED-FLY-COARSE-GAME-TROUT-FISHING-/180543449593?pt=UK_Sporting_Goods_Sports_Clothing_LE&hash=item2a093a69f9

Buy the vest one size bigger than you normally wear to allow for it going over your clothes and to give room to fill the pockets.

You are only a couple of kilos over, so it shouldn't be difficult to decant some of the heavier items into the pockets. It is surprising how much electronics such as i-pod touch, camera, phone, netbook, and all the associated chargers weigh.

It also saves you needing a handbag as your travel documents, purse etc are easily to hand on your person. Take a thin fabric bag (about £2 from cancer research charity shops, for example) pop it in a pocket and once on the plane empty the pockets into the bag and stow it under the seat.

I have a handbag and a rucksack - which is my hand-luggage. Never had any trouble. But I've never flown with BMI Baby.

    Just an update.

I usually find when you search forums for problems, the conclusion is that the question hasn't been answered, or the OP doesn't post the outcome.
I got the suitcase down to 10.6 kg but security never weighed it. I mentioned I had the Xbox and was told to scan it seperately. everything was fine and I checked in without a problem!

    Thanks for your help!
