Overweight Hand luggage
Comments

Hi, I'm flying tomorrow to Edinburgh from East Midlands with BMI Baby and have a 10kg hand luggage allowance.
Ive packed my case and it weighs in at 11.2kg. Does anybody know what the charge on that excess would be?
I'm only taking hand luggage and I've already checked in online
Thanks in advance
Is there nothing you can put in a (voluminous) coat. I have carried at least a kilo of books in a coat before, sometimes just placed over my forearm and covered in a coat.0 -
Just an update.
I usually find when you search forums for problems, the conclusion is that the question hasn't been answered, or the OP doesn't post the outcome.
I got the suitcase down to 10.6 kg but security never weighed it. I mentioned I had the Xbox and was told to scan it seperately. everything was fine and I checked in without a problem!
Thanks for your help!
Glad you got a good result.
The airport security staff have no interest in the size or weight of your hand luggage, that's the responsibilty of the airline (or their ground agents) at the departure gate. In my experience their main focus is on the size of your bag, most will have a device to measure whether the bag is within the limits but it's rare to see a bag weighed. If you can carry it without it looking like it's pulling your arm off I doubt if you'd have any problem.0 -
Just to say that Thomas Cook often weigh handluggage at check-in, and if it is over weight (5kg) you have to make it lighter. Having said that, I have had my hand luggage weighed as many times as not, so it is a bit of a lottery.
Same goes for Ryanair (10kg)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
