Thanks gilli. :) Had a nice Christmas Eve at work as we had our shift dinner and just generally a nice time (around working of course :rotfl:).

Then went home and OH had the place all lovely and clean and tidy with the Christmas tree all lit and candles around the living room. :) Then he proposed. :D I said yes of course and have the most lovely ring now. :D We also had a very nice rose champagne. :T Will be a while before we can actually get married though as will need to save up first.

Had a lovely Christmas and got lots of lovely things, although back to work today unfortunately. Only two shifts though and have two days off so could be worse. Just need to think about the overtime I'll get. Have a new focus for getting rid of debt/saving now! :D

Really need new cushions for the couch as the cats have wrecked all of mine but can't face any sales shopping. _pale_

Thanks psycho :D Doesn't feel very real atm as we have no date set or anything but it's nice all the same! Got to show my ring off at work last night as well. :)

Back to work today then off for two, then back on early shifts. Feeling sorry for myself due to that. :o

    Thanks gilli. :D

Just checking through all my numbers and adding up the debt paid off this year so will have figures ready for my new diary.

Looking at wedding costs with OH and everything is sooo expensive. Feeling a bit worried about how we are going to afford a nice day now - don't want to spend too much as it's just one day but there's a lot to consider.

Hoping to actually get married in roughly 18 months but will really need to start saving. We want to keep it quite small really, looking at approx 40 to the ceremony & a meal then up to 100 for an evening drinks do. Hmm. Plus we still have the debt to pay off & our wonky window to sort out/get replaced.

Having a look online at mineral foundation again - thinking of trying the Lily Lolo sample pots as they're £1.29 so could try 2 or 3 shades to get an idea of what suits.

Went out for lunch with a friend today and was talking about wedding stuff. I've not been engaged a week yet and I'm already a Bridezilla.:rotfl:

  • Why not ask people to donate part of your wedding as presents? Things like the cake or photographer etc etc? Not really sure about the logistics as I haven't had to plan a wedding but I'm sure people would be more than happy to help you out that way instead of buying things you don't need.

Also, on the wedding boards I'm sure there loads of helpful ideas. x

Hi psycho, thanks for the idea - something to think about, although I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable with it. It does make sense though. Will look at the wedding boards as well. :)

We went to see our first venue today. :j Very impressed and it is good value for money. We would need to pay the venue hire in full to secure a date though. This would probably need to go on a cc and be paid off asap. So, we'll have a look around and a think about it but are both very interested. :)

OH has set up a spreadsheet and we have a potential guest list so have an approximate estimate for venue hire & food atm. If we book the date we're considering then we will have 18 months to save for everything.

Off to bed soon as up at 5am for work.

  • Good idea from psycho, sometimes people will offer so you wouldn't need to specifically ask. Just ask if anyone has skills they are willing to donate. Make your own invites etc.
Especially for things like photo's and cake, girl I worked with had a colleague do the photos for free, and someone else made the cake and the local WI did the flowers in the church for far less than a florist would charge and looked so much better.

  • I think sometimes having booked something and having to save or pay a certain amount by then gives you an incentive to get sorted... I remember for my 21st birthday I had to save certain amounts for the DJ and the band etc etc (a darn sight cheaper than a wedding I know) but it made me save because I knew I had to, if I had to save before booking it I'd never get it saved!

Yep, people will definitely ask what they can get you so I'm sure you won't need to approach anyone to ask... both your families I'm sure would be delighted to help you out in that way.

Hi all, had a bit of a nightmare at work today but at least I finished at 2pm.

Very impressed with Lily Lolo as my sample pots arrived today and were only ordered yesterday morning. :T Will need to have a play about with them - ordered three different shades so can see what suits my skin tone best.

Thanks for the ideas gilli and psycho. :T We are definitely going to make our own invitations as it will work out cheaper, especially for the evening invites as we will be looking at 60+.

My cousin's wife makes amazing decorative cakes so would maybe ask her to do our wedding cake. I would want to pay her though as can't ask her to do it for free. My mum might be able to help me towards the cost though - not that I would expect anything from her.

OH has a friend who is a keen photographer (with a good camera) who may be willing to do photos for us but if not we can ask around. My uncle is very good at making and editing videos but not sure I would want a video! *cringe* I hate having my photo taken so much and cringe away whenever a camera appears (unless drunk!) :rotfl: Not very photogenic and find it hard to smile and keep my eyes open at the same time. Hmm, not great bride material. :rotfl:

Flowers - I found a link to this tutorial on the wedding board and think they look pretty good. I think one of the girls on the wedding board made her own bouquet from felt and buttons which I like the idea of. *shamelessly stealing ideas* Would quite like some fresh flowers in the ceremony room though.

Yes psycho, I think if we've booked it and secured our date at a place we both really like then we'll be more motivated to pay the amount off and start saving for the food/drink/clothes etc. Totally justifying using the cc to book the venue now. :o
