I felt the same way! How can he get his hands on 10 chocolate bars a day, or a mixing bowl of crisps? I felt it was obscene actually.... and felt less and less sympathy as the programme went on. I just felt embarrassed when he had the tantrum in hospital after his care package was cut. Even though he had lost weight, he still seemed unable to walk and had a state of the art wheelchair (at what cost one wonders?).
My husband and I joked that he was doing an 'Andy out of Little Britain' and as soon as the carers left he was skipping around the kitchen stuffing his face!!
I usually watch these things with some sort of empathy but in this case couldn't summon up anything.
Me too, someone was obviously bringing him all this food as he was bedbound for 3 years. Hubby and i both had zero sympathy for him.The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
Evening gang.
Blackberryrum, looking good girl! BTW, nice curtains too!
Shala & Skint - I watched the fat bloke programme, and he was annoying me so much that I had to switch the TV over. His self-pitying, everyone else is to blame mantra he'd chosen to live by was just plain poppycock. I've had far worse go on in my life so far, and I've not turned into a 70 stone blob of self-pity (yet!). It's clear personality comes into it too, but it's obvious that he'd taken no responsibility for himself, and his over-eating, and still hasn't, because he's still blaming everyone else, apart from himself. Unlike the super-slimmer Charlie Walduck, who featured on This Morning a few years back. I read his autobiography last year, and he totally accepted that it was his own doing, further exacerbated by depression and a tendency to not go out, that led to him being a semi-recluse, ordering in food (4 full breakfasts delivered to the door each morning) from local take-aways. Gastric banding isn't exactly taking control for the 70 stone bloke (who was actually closer to 56 stone I believe), it's just a tool he's able to use to control himself, but even with that he can work round it. Anne Diamond admitted to that, prior to deciding to eat healthily, rather than sucking on chocolate bars. Maybe I'm just a bit hard-hearted, but I struggled to sympathise or empathise with the bloke.
I finally managed to work out an eating plan for today, but it was definitely a last minute decision.
Today: EE
B - banana
L - pasta & sauce with added mushrooms & ham, rhubarb muller light, satsuma
D - pork chop, baked potato, baked beans, clover light (1 syn), 28g low fat cheddar (4 syns), ketchup (1.5 syns), mixed salad
HeA - 250ml milk
HeB - Fibre Plus bar
Snacks - 2 x biscotti (3 syns)
= 9.5 syns today
It's WI tomorrow night, and after a sneaky peek at home I'm thinking I'll be lucky with a STS. Not sure why that is, but am concerned that despite eating within the plan, I have allowed myself larger portions this week, to combat feeling hungry. I've had less fruit & veg too, especially on the green days, as I've felt a need for 'stodge', and those days allow for it. I think I need to look at reducing portion sizes, and bringing in some superspeed soups to help things kick-start again. My cold is finally fading too, so I'm going to get back into the gym. Oh, and I did that Dance Fitness Wii game, and OMG I almost killed myself. I've been watching Strictly Come Dancing for months, and thought it was all really easy. Oh no it's not! It took me 2 hours constantly repeating the steps and I still couldn't master the salsa. I did like the boxercise element on it though, but all of them go really fast. I was sweating like a pig, and had to open the windows! I also think I need a lounge about 50 ft wide for me to do all the steps in too. OH walked in when I was halfway through and asked if I really needed to swear quite so much at the TV! I certainly can't do it when the children are about, and I'm a real perfectionist too, so not getting it right every time just made me even madder. But, I WILL master the bl00dy salsa if it kills me.... it just might take months to do it.
See you all on the flip side. One day the clocks will stop, and time won't mean a thing
Be nice to your children, they'll choose your care home0 -
I'm looking for something to join, and came across SW.
I'm sceptic, looking at the free trial menu on SW's websitr. Can someone explain/justify how the hell the following can work:
1) Spaghetti is a so-called free food, therefore have as much as you want.
Really?? Even 2000 calories' worth of spaghetii? Doesn't that go against the fundamental priniciple of losing weight by burning more calories than consuming?
2) Menu says that for snacks you can have "wherever, whenever and however much you like!"
Really?? Is a Snickers bar and a bag of popcorn at midnight ok then??0 -
Good evening all
Well, can't we all gossip???I go away for a weekend and have 4 pages worth (possibly more) to plough through - but, well done all for losses and good food diaries...
Well, I have said that I've been away for weekend... I am an instructor with the sea cadets and had a training weekend. There are 2 options here, eat what is provided or starve!!! Needless to say I pressed the pause button on SW over the weekend, as starving was not on my agenda. Back on wagon from morning. 2 days should be OK and I will be happy with a STS this week.
So, I have finished off my weekend with a take away curry (couldn't be @rsed to cook - weekend away,. 2 hour drive home... kit etc to wash....). Tomorrow WILL BE good.
Owl xChildren are born with wings .... Teachers help them to flyOne day your life is going to flash in front of your eyes.... Make sure it's worth watching!!!!!0 -
I'm glad i'm not the only one who had issues with that program!
One of my favourite programs to watch is Biggest Loser (USA version already started, Uk one starts this week with the lovely Davina McCall) and i love the attitudes of the people on there. They are big (a guy on the USA one is 526lbs) but it doesn't stop any of them from exercising and taking control of their lives, and i for one admire them for that and I'm very motivated by it. I love to see them at the end of the series, it's just amazing what they achieve.
It's even motivated me to try and start doing The Shred this week  I bought it for my OH last year (how kind am i:rotfl:) Must say though Jillian Michaels scared the bejeez outta me!
Anyway must go and get some sleep, busy day tomorrow at work which is always good because i don't have time to think about food!!
Extra easy tomorrow..
B - apple, yogurt, 2 x ryvita (0.5 HEB) 1 mad cow light (part HEA)
L - chinese pork, noodles, stir fry veg, satsuma
T - smokey chicken hotpot (3 - chorizo and sugar)
S - crisps(4.5) satsumas, milk in 1 cuppa (part HEA) if hungry 2 more ryvita (0.5 HEB) skinny dipper (3.5)

You may be older than me (a mere 36 years) but you're slimmer - had to go back and look at the pic of you and I'd guess you are about 6 stone lighter than me :T

1) because spaghetti is a food which is more filling for its calories than, say, chocolate, its highly unlikely you will be able to eat 2,000 calories of spaghetti in a dayYou are encouraged to fill yourself up... but not to the point where you explode!
2) wherever, whenever and however much YES...of the free foods. you are allowed some "syns" to use on things like popcorn and snickers, and as long as you stay within the daily limit (5-15 syns, at a guess this would by a snack size snickers and a treat size bag of popcorn) then yes, you can have those at midnight if you wishNothing tastes as good as riding a horse feels0 -

Hi sosos,
Just had a look at the menu and i think what Slimming World means when they say have snacks "wherever, whenever and however much you like" they mean the snacks that they have listed below that sentence, i.e. Day two - banana, raspberries and mullerlight. This wouldn't include popcorn and snickers unfortunatelynice if it did though
Hope that helps

I wouldn't like to try and eat 2000 worth of spaghetti - SW promote 'eat until you're satisified' not gorge yourself.
They also promote exercise so you will burn some of the calories you consume off.
Yes, a snickers bar & a bag of popcorn you can have 24/7 if you want - as long as you can work out how to have both for 10 syns a day (a standard snickers is 16 syns).
SW have a money back guarantee - if you do it for 4 weeks and don't lose weight they'll give you your money back. In 42 years they haven't done it once. Try it and see.0 -
Hi Folks, its been a while.
I got to target last year having lost about a stone, this was part of a long term plan.
The next part was to stop smoking, which I have done, 13 weeks today, cold turkey, 3 months by date tomorrow.
So the next part of the plan is to get back on the SW wagon, I did all my shopping today, but Im dismayed to find the class I went to has changed times and I can no longer get there, so I will have to do it on my own (with your help I hope).
I have to lose 1 stone 5 lbs to get back to where I was.
I do have a question for you, Uncle Ben's express rice? I was sure someone told me it was free on EE, it was on offer today and I have bought 6 different packs, does anyone have any info on if it is free or syns, many thanks : )
Looking forward to starting tomorrow, I have already done my weeks menu whilst eating my last flake with a vodka and diet : )Love your Mum, you'll never get another one when she's gone.0 -
I don't think Uncle Ben's is free as it's 'ambient' not dried, but I could be wrong - I'd be interested to know as it'd make life easier for me!
No it's not - they all have some syns.0
