I'll look at the NS&I ISA in April. My Barclays RS account will have matured by then so I'll just dump £3k of that right into whatever's looking good at that point.
Yeah, I'm aiming for a deposit in 2-3 years time. I can't commit myself to a particular area for a while due to my job, so at the moment I'm just trying to save and will wait and see how things go. I actually intend on increasing my saving power by 2k a year, so 12k next year, 14k the year after etc if all goes well. Feels much better than being in debt!
While I was a student I remember having 7p in my pocket, fully overdrawn, buying a reduced half-size loaf of bread for 5p from Tescos and eating it plain while walking 18 miles back from Uni to my parents house to get fed. Haha... memories!0 -
Touche - Also look at the Lloyds TSB regular saver that pays 8% for 2 years fixed. You will need a bank account with them but you can just put £1 in that and never use it again

Well officically I was pants in November. Started so well and then really hit the spending big time towrads the end of the month. I;m usually very good, but a winter coat was needed which cost a fair bit. Oh well, the usual £500 went in the pot. December better be a tight month!0

LOL! Well, if you spend on your CC you won't have to pay it off until January
Are you saving surplus cash at the end of each month or are you doing it as you go along? I'm doing the former...

Everything is going to plan for me with my savings this month. In a couple of days time I will be able to calculate the amount of money I have to put into my regular savings account this month. I was rather hoping I was going to get enough cleared through Cashbag this month so that I could get a cheque out for £15 to put towards my savings. However, I am about 35p short and even if it cleared tomorrow I wouldn’t receive the cheque and clear it before the first of the month (which is when my savings get transferred). Still, I managed to clear £25 from Freefivers earlier on in the month so I shouldn’t really complain.
Have only saved the odd £10 out of my housekeeping here and there.
I don’t know if it’s a bonus or what this month. I am paying for ALL the Christmas presents this year on my cashback credit card so I am hoping to get quite a bit of cashback from it. The only downside to this is that I will have to ask MrJudi for the money – not that he wont give it to me but I must remember to ask him for it or I will be in serious dire straits come to pay it back. Its just a bit messy doing it this way but definitely doable.
I sold a few sims this month and also a new Chanel Eyeshadow Quad that I bought on impulse and never used. I received my Tesco clubcard statement today, but its too late to use them for this weeks shopping so the savings will go towards next months savings. I also had a regular savings account mature this month so the interest was added to my total savings.
On the minus side this month I have committed to paying my sons end of primary school trip to an activity adventure park in July of next year which is costing £259 for 5 days!!! However, this money wont affect my savings as I will be transferring £15 a week out of the child benefit into an online saver towards paying the lot off when it is due. The rest of the money will be transferred along with the tax credit money into another online savings account that will be used to pay for the kids/dogs needs. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Wow. Everybody is doing supremely well. Apart from me- the poster! I should learn from your good examples and stop spending. It will be a real test to see whether I can save during December as I still haven't bought the XMas presents yet!
We'll see.
Continue to post your successes and progress and I'm sure we will all be making New Years resolutions to improve on the amount. I certainly will if that deposit is ever going to grow!0 -
