im 25, 26 in a few months. Live at home so no bills to pay. Saved 96K, but I been given about 20K from rents. My student loan is approx 16K.

I plan to get myself on the housing ladder when I have saved a bit more. But I cant help feeling it would be much easier once I find a partner, double income etc.

Jesus christ you could buy a house around here for that! And have money left for furniture! hahaha

i see alot of people my age investing in new cars and then realising they loose so much money in the first year

That's not so much investing as wasting money on a rapidly depreciating effort - you've got the right idea ;)

I'm 28, have never owned a car in my life and it hasn't affected my career prospects or overall happiness!

I wish I had your sense at 25! I was still living it up until this year when I realised everyone around me is having kids and are starting to buy... I'm 35:eek:

I've had a good life so far and I wouldn't change any of it for anything :) might delete some ex's though! other than that all good

Now in full saving mode, and trying out these no spending days, So far I've spent nothing today or Monday this week but Monday was the day before pay day so not sure if that counts!
Aspiring to be financially independent.... from my parents!

Lol, I was the same. Was broke by payday, but I enjoyed my life.

I have been doing the no spending days too, I am quitting smoking so Tues & Wed I did not bring my purse to work so I could not buy any cigs! I take my lunch to work so I do not need cash for anything. Although I nearly had an embarrassing situation when I pulled in for petrol on my way home yesterday. Luckily I realised I had no purse and carried on my way

Just had a good read through the last few pages of this thread and everyone seems to be doing so well!

I started saving in April and have saved £8,330 of the £25,000 target. Chose £25k as I should be able to have that by the end of 2012. It's a very high saving of £1k per month in comparison to my £1350 net monthly salary (I rely on my £350 lodger income to pay all bills - and I mean everything...mortgage, gas/elec, tv licence, mobile phone, insurance). The other £350 goes on food, petrol and any other expenses.

Unfortuately due to my poor financial past I'm limited in what I can do with my savings...can't open new current account to take advantage of savings rates etc. So...because I have another 3 years before I'd be able to use the money (I want to buy another property so would need another mortgage)...I have a final savings target of £50k by March 2015 (might as well make it a full 4 years of savings)...which will actually be £62k as all this money is being invested with my Dad who will give me a 10% interest rate and a little bonus.

Also got another 2 savings accounts on the go...a "Holiday" one with a £2k target (any mystery shopping or Quidco or extra money goes here...should be full quite soon) and a "Car MOT/Tax/Insurance" one with a £1k target although I haven't figured out how I'm going to fund this yet!

Annoyingly, my job is always under threat of redundancy every few months and especially at the beginning and half way through financial year. So really I'm ok until February now but anything could happen after then!

Anyway...enough of my rambling! I'm going to keep reading this thread - it's great motivation!
